“I actually thought it could works,” she recalled. “When your actions are limited and you’re from a certain world and you’re young and you respect your family you go along with their wishes even if you have extreme doubts.”
This is absolutely a truth.
This article is named “Choosing Clothes, but Not Husbands”. It is no doubt that we all consider “Choosing a Husband, but Not Clothes”. This is already a common believe in the modern society, expect some feudal areas. There are still people choosing husbands as choosing clothes thought they have the same common sense as we do. Why they have to do so? Even though they know what they have done is wrong or violating the common understanding.
That is because there is another power they can not conflict with. It may come from their demand, their desire, their family, etc.
Take family as an example. Sometimes we really don’t want to do something since our parents require or force us to do so, and then we just do it.

We don't want to, but we just do it (Leslie)
I do think your last sentence should be changed into this way.
But I am more interested in the reasons. Is it just because our parents force us to do and we don't want to disappoint them? Or is it because the social customs your parents follow closely and your disobey will bring them shame? Or is it the great pressure you and your family will face with from the whole society's opposition?
I am curious whether you will just follow your parents without the second thought. Your parents love you, but if you sacrifice yourself to meet their wishes, then you can't love yourself which your parents cherish more than themselves. Is it too complicated to comprehend?
