Masculine? ueber? (Hugo)

I have already known about mid-Eastern sex discrimination.
Even my country was also a long time ago was a really severe patriarchal system country. But now it’s really going better. Now we could see that Korean woman are doing great positions and getting treated very well. Even sometimes I feel those women are a paradise in my country.
For instance, Korean typical culture is for dating each man or woman, mostly man has the tendency to pay most of date expense. Because our country thinks that it is really important for a man to have dignity and honor. So man should have pride and our dignity to be shouldn’t a must.
But sometimes, our culture get going in commonly use Dutch pay system inch by inch still mostly man extortionate about date fee. I think this should be really changed about our culture. And for me, when I was child and for meeting with pretty girls. I have used to usually committed mistake did like that. Paying every money for girls. but I am not ever going to do anymore even now I having more money.
Because I realized I am not that their financial supporter. Plus I cannot use my money has my parent’s enthusiasm and perspiration. And I know It should be changed.
Nowadays, Sometimes I could see on the contrary woman trying to pay everything to a man.
It means Korea is now changing.
In the United States, Sometimes I hang out with my friends, and I am really impressed one thing when they always try to do dutch pay. Therefore, I could save more money. And I feel we could get more fun and be happy. And I don’t want to mention which country. One country among the mid-eastern they forcing that woman cannot drive a car, if woman have gotten raped from the some guy. Woman could be executed. What a really weird law. So I was able to see in one of the article. One man has really severely group raped from the bunch of guys. However, the guys just got a little punishment and the woman who was rapped got executed to death. Because court said woman might have been temptation to those guys. After then I was really shocked. And really frustrated it’s really does not that make sense. Even America also so many times warned their human rights, they rarely hearing American Government’s voice.
Well I actually look over each countries included my unique country things. What about your country?

Choosing clothes, but not Relligion, and Values by Dila

We cannot choose somethings from life right? we all know that. ( Religion, family, country) We born with some things. At the same time there are something that we can choose.
I am Muslim and Turkish. I didn't choose my religion nor country, but I can choose what to believe or not to believe. So like everyone else. There are not certain things that I have to do. I am Muslim, and I proud but I am not religious, or narrow minded. Every single part of the world is different, and you cannot judge any values they have. Even though it is stupid or illogical for you.
There is nothing like, west is like that east is like that. No one can decide that without knowing their culture. About Afghanistan, who said they are not happy about their life and values? If they would not be happy with this value would change by the time. But no they are still continuing to obey environmental expects and they are also doing these to their children and goes on like that.
Can we say educational lack? maybe, I am sure it has big role for some countries or some people but not every religious or middle eastern country. For example, in Dubai, almost everyone are well educated also they are so rich. However, woman who lives there are covering their body, and hairs. So this is believes, choices that is not something to change if they are happy with that. They choose to live like that, or they do not want to exactly equal with man.
Everybody is talking about "There is no equality between man and woman", "Man and woman should be equal" etc.. Did you ever worry about equality, When it is easy to find job for woman? or When it is time to repair something? or When you need some man to carry heavy things?.. probably no! Because we only thing equality when we need it.
I have so many opinions about these issue, I start to think after I read "Choosing Clothes, but not Husbands" and comments. from others. So one last thing I want to tell everyone, "Don't judge or compare any culture if you do not know well. There is nothing like this culture and belief is right, good, and other one is bad and wrong.

Love ≠ Possession & Marriage ≠ Love (Fay Song)

∵ Love = A Romantic Encounter + Sweet Promise
Marriage = Profit + Chance
∴ Love ≠ Marriage

∵ Love = “I love you” + “let you go”
Possession = Jealousy + Covetousness
∴ Love ≠ Possession

P.S.
The True Love is:
“I love you, Victor, but you are not mine.
You kept your promise, you set me free.
Now I can do the same for you.”-----《Corpse Bride》

Arguments about cultural beliefs( A. Bugubayev)

I found out that people in the West believe that women and men have the same rights, and people in the East,i would say Middle East believe that women have less rights. We even discussed about that. But i still cannot understand, why people from Middle East( Afghanistan, Pakistan and etc.) are still believe in that, even if they moved to the West ( America)? Why they are still segregating each other in their own inner society, even if it is unlawful in America? I think, the new generation have to live with their new traditions and new ways of life, but still remembering their roots.

convention vs. myself (Yoona Hahm)

Which one is more important? Following the convention or believing myself?

Beacuse of the article "Choosing clothes, but not husbands", I get confused which one is more important. When I read the article first, I wondered how they dare to restrict Afghan women. No matter how important their family reputation and their custom is, nowadays, the right of women and the ability of women have amazingly improved. Everyone notices that. So, I cannot understand their patriarchal culture.

However, when I read the article second time, I changed my mind. If I choose the one whom I love and this dicision makes my family ruin, I couldnot choose the one and follow my parents' decision. Even though myself is important for me, my family is also my biggest part of myself. How can I choose it against them? Also, like last controversial article "I listen to my parents and I wonder what they believe", I tend to follow my parents. That is, finally, I follow the convention.

Therefore, I am confused which one I can choose, following the convention or following myself.

P.S Thanks god for studying what I want with the support from parents and without any restriction. :D

I am lucky guy (JunHyung Park)

I am lucky guy, because i can choose my clothes whatever I wanna wear

I am lucky guy, because i can feel free to make love with girl I wanna be with

I am Lucky guy, because i can make my own decision for my wedding

I am Lucky guy, because i can choose religion whatever i wanna believe

I am Lucky guy, because i have my lovely family who believe me forever

I am Lucky guy, Because I can design my life freely

I am Lucky guy, Because I have my own way in everything

I am Lucky guy, because i was born in South Korea

Are we Humans? (AAKASH MEHTA)

I read all articles and many more papers on discrimination. We humans discriminate at each step of our lives. Black-Brown-White discrimination, Hindu-Muslin-Christan discrimination, Man-Woman discrimination. We all are different if we talk about discrimination. Our life styles, cultures, thinking all is different. Am I right? Now let me ask you one question. If I put a piece of our body, for example heart, can you tell me whom that heart belongs? Black, brown or white? If I give you a glass of blood, can you tell me whether it is from Hindu, Muslim or Christan's? If I ask you to identify a part of gene, can you tell me whether it belongs to a man or a woman? Can you answer these questions by just looking at these things? You can not. Even if I give you two separate glasses of blood with same blood group; one from a black person and the other from a white and if I mix that blood in to one glass, can you separate that blood in to black person's or white??? No one can do this. There is no discrimination. Its all in our minds. We think that our community, our cast, our religion is better than any others'. And by doing so we try to prove that in any case whether good or bad. How many people are killed due to discrimination? Are they all black? Are they all white? Are they all Hindu or Muslims? Are they all men or women? And we call our selves humans! Superior of all living organisms!!! Are we Humans???...

Gender Discrimination (Aakash Mehta)

Who is superior? Men or Women??? When this question is asked to a large number of population, majority of the answers will favor Men. However, it is not the case always. But the first answer from those people in most cases will always support men. When they are asked why? Some of them answer women can't do many things that men can do? For example, some say women can't join army. I would say women has reached a stage that they can join Air force and Navy. No one has predicted that. Who knows they can join Army tomorrow!!! Here the question is not what men can do and women can't. Even women can do perform many duties that men can't perform. Women can give birth to a new life. Men can't. Here the question I want to ask to all of us whether men or women can survive and run the world without each other??? I think no way. Men need women and so women. The world is always balanced and balance can always be maintained with support of each other. For example, consider the chair as a life. The body of the chair is a man and the pillars, the support is woman. Without either one we won't be able to make chair. Both are important. Similarly men and women run parallel to each other. No one is superior than the other. We all are equal.

Why do we marry? (Jungtzu Lin)

Why do we have to marry? If we love somebody and want to spend time with him/her, we need to marry legally?

As legalized marriage is considered as social system which maintains social norm and morality by keeping kinship and family, reputation and honor of family become important factors to be considered in order to decide marriage partners especially in conservative society.
If so, what is wrong to marry somebody whom parents choose for daughters? Of course, I believe that women as well as men should be protected under equal rights, and women should get higher education. However, as Ms. Sultan said, “the core issue was really a different philosophy of what it means to be Afghan and what it means to be Americans,” we cannot judge their way of marriage.

Moreover, we take it granted that we have not only the right to decide whether we marry or not, but also the right to choose a partner. However, in reality, we are inclined to choose a partner who is desirable for parents in terms of economical and social status.

Choosing clothes, but not husbands (Aakash Mehta)

In the article choosing clothes, but not husbands, the author briefly pointed out the case of an Afghan immigrant family. How this family is living? I think the title wants to say that with the time and modern world the members of that family have changed but their basic mentality about their cast, religion is still the same. Here the parents decide the marriage partner for the girl. In other words the case is an arrange marriage. Personally, I am not in against of arrange marriage. However, there are countless successful arrange marriages around us. But the case becomes worst when the girl is forced to do arrange marriage. The men are not as much forced for such act. Then why the girls? Due to such force there occurs many serious family problems. I don't want to interfere in anyone's personal matter but I just want to tell you the general thing that we all are equal and we all have the same rights and everyone has complete freedom to live their lives. The world has entered 21st century but ask your self one question? Have we entered 21st century? Are we ready for this modern world. This is the question of whole world, not only the countries which are superior. Are the women given same rights as men? Why there are still child marriage systems? Why in some cases girls are not asked before taking any kind of decision? Is this the definition of 21st century?

Choosing Clothes, but Not Husbands (Xinbei Xie)

In this article, it talks about women's right in Afghan. Even though nowadays the feminine's position are increasing. In some areas, especially some countries in Asia, such as Afghan that mentioned in this essay, there is heavy unequal between men and women.

In some countries, women have to cover their heads and faces only show their eyes. They are afraid to show their skin in public, and this is also a tradition in their countries. Like that mentioned in the essay, most of them can't choose the married by themselves. Their parents will arrange all the things for them. Moreover, some women can't get a further education. I think it is really unfair for them.

I am not total a feminist, but I really hope women can equal with men

I listen to my parents (Amy Fu)

I listen to my parents
This article makes me think of my parents who are the most respectable person in my life. They are supporting everything I want to posses and giving me the most precious love in different ways at different time. However, I had a completely different judgment about my parents to me before I studied abroad. I still couldn’t figure out why I was too hate my parents to communicate with them in a normal way.

Maybe misunderstanding could be a barrier among us. I always considered they didn’t care about my feeling and thoughts. The only thing they satisfied me was money, the needs for necessaries and good education. In my opinion, they only valued their business and investments, rather than their only daughter because they were too busy on business to talking with me. I always wanted to get a reward from them when I got a high grade on test, but they even didn’t let me finish and then got away. Actually, only one evaluation word could make me happy at that time, but they didn’t say anything. More and more disappointed made me begin get away from my parents and did everything I want to do, even though I knew it was wrong.

However, I began to realize that their love to me was over everything because they were trying their best to give me comfortable life. Being alone in a strange country made me think a lot and found out something that I had never realized. I also communicated a lot with my parents and their words made me feel that I am being loved by them and their hope on me is greater than anything .

Sometimes, we need to change a way to think about the things are surrounded us, especially with the closest and the most important people to you.

Ridiculous Discrimination (by Ramil)

"Black men and Public space" article tells the reader about problems that black men face. These problems form a very important and up-to-date termin that is called "discrimination".

The problem of discrimination existed from the early ages. Although some great people tried to solve this problem, it still exists today. I think today it is even more important and dangerous because discrimination has got it's "hidden" form. Nowadays it is not popular to show that you are racist, it is politically and diplomatically incorrect. For example, some big companies do not accept black employees, even if they are more experienced and educated.

However, on the other hand, today most of white teenagers adopted to black culture. Now white teenagers act, talk, dress like black teenagers. They listen to the same music as black people - rap and R'n'B. I think this is ridiculous! How can a person be a racist, if him or his children love black culture?

I think all people individual and a particular person can't be treated badly only because of his race.

Influence of my Parents is 90% of my personality today (by Ramil)

After I read "I listen to my parents and I wonder what they believe" I started thinking about a topic I haven't thought about for a couple of years. Influence of parents is definitely very important in child's education. Of course, we get a lot of information in school, but our individuality is formed in family. In childhood, the words and actions of parents are very important, because they are the only people who we trust. Small children do not know what is good and what is bad, they think that everything that parents do is right. This is why parents should always talk and act as they want their children to talk and act. The only people who explain children the difference between right and wrong are parents. Children follow their parents and usually make mistakes that parents made. Parents - examples of ideal people for little children. I think they play a great role in forming their child's character.

Actually, I think influence of my parents is 90% of my personality today.

In the beginning it was great and in the end it was like "Rest In Peace"(Dmitry Ustyantsev)

You know, in the beginning of the film "Freedom writers" I liked it a lot. There was a strong story and a good work of all actors. I liked the way the moviemakers tried to show the life of those criminal areas and how that affected the young people who lives there. The school kids were not some kind of nazis but on the streets they had to be divided someway to form stable groups(or gangs) that could support and protect them from aggression of other angry neighbors who had hard lives too. Race is the most natural in that case because it is not only about skin but the of live and values too. That's a kind of a classic plot.

But then the movie turned into a classic Hollywood "superhero" drama where a saint college graduate deals with a class of street gangsters. Mysteriously, she turns them to the right direction. That is not a drama, that is a non-science fiction. The students were not a group of kindergarten kids who didn't like each other's color but those who divided into groups to survive, and did shoot each others on the street, and the moviemakers want me to believe that they changed under the influence of the teacher's speeches and visiting Holocaust museum. I know what is Holocaust, my Jewish great-grandfather, still alive, was shot three times when he was fighting on WW II. It has nothing to do with street violence. I repeat, the kids were not nazis, they lived street lives.

The movie reminded any of those sport dramas where an inspirited coach comes to train a team of losers of baseball or any of Rocky movies where is beaten severely in the first part of the fight and should have died long ago but destroys his opponent someway.

I hope you got my point.

I listen to my parents by Sehoon Kim

After reading "I listen to my parents and I wonder what they believe", I could think again that all parent is very important for every child. Many things have effects on children while they are living in a world. Of these things, the most important thing is from parents. For this reason, I was impressive a particular term, Sort of copy them, in this article.

As the article metioned, children tend to follow their parents, ignoring what is right or unright because they think they have respects for their parents. This is children's sort of copy them. If parents are not helpful for their children, they can't think what things are very important in their lives. Therefore, the role of parents is importatnt to set to choose what track is right track.

Freedom and honor are created by ourselves!! (By Lei Gao)

After watching the movie Freedom Writer, I feel that everyone has choices to own freedom, to own success. Some one may complain that he or she has a poor relationship with their parents and friends. Some others may illustrate that their lives depend on the social enviroment. In this movie, I mention firstly the social enviroment influences most people, and creates a inequal world. Furthermore, I feel that everyone can be a positive and successful person through personal effort.

Racism, violence and poor family education exist in this movie. African-Americans and White people discriminate each other. Also yellow people were discriminated by others. Among those high school students, violence usually happens. I am sure those things really exist in this country. However, have you tried to change those situations by yourselves?

The smart teacher in this movie provides some ways and chances to those students, in order to let them pick up their confidences to face normal lives. Finally they achieve that. In this point of view, people can be successful through their own efforts. As the old Jewish woman tell them in the movie, everyone can be hero!

Feeiling about the color (Guangdi Zhu)

I get a lot of feeling when I watched the movie “freedom writer”. I watch the movie two times the first time was in the classroom and the second time was after class. The movie gives me many new feeling about this country and the colour bar. I can’t think about that, people can live like this before I saw this movie.
Now I was interested with the colour bar. There is all yellow races in my homeland. I have no idea about the color. I just can learn something from book and history. But I never feel it before I come to this country.
This movie and something happened on me make me know the word is not nice and beautiful like our dream. But why some people flitting with it and some people were discriminate against. I think it is come from buy our attitude. Like me, when I get some inequity treatment I feel I get discriminate. The color bar was come out at that time! Even I don’t why and maybe the true thing was not like that.
The people were get a gunshot who are just teenager in the movie. They just know the discriminate against and hate some one and how to protect the street or demesne. They even did have a normal education. I don’t think this is discriminate against. It is just hate.
The color bar is come from with wrong cognition, but the sin is add the hate on others.

Freedom Writers (Xinbei Xie)

I watched film Freedom Writers in this week's class. I was shocked by such a good movie.

The movie was set in Long Beach. In the film's school, all the students were from the lowest class of society. They were living under serious racial discrimination. They never heard of teacher's words. But in the effort of the teacher, the students gradually lived out of the shadow. In my opinion, this group of students' psychology were not in the dark at begining. All of them had dis crimination experience. Their hearts were great harmed by these experiences. They didn't dare to show their true face to others. They became much more stronger, more violence. Finally, they kept these experience in their diary. Each person's skin color and race is a fact that we can't change. Why the negro should be discriminated. This's really unfair. Like I said in another blog before, we live in the same earth, we are family.

Opinions about Freedom Writers by Dila

Freedom Writer, is one of the good movies that I saw for a long time. It touched me a lot, even thought I did not grow in a racial country or city. Movie, was well-done and attract me a lot, so after I watched that I searched everything about the real freedom writers. I start to think more about racism and came out with some opinions. :)
In U.S.A people are always talk about racism, "there is racism", "there was racism", even thought Obama's slogan was "Change". So people are never trying to forget, on the contrary racism subject is always hot topic, because people always thinking through it. So maybe if people try to forget and concern about different things it might be forgotten.

What do you think???

" I listen to my parents" by Laura

I had been especially sensitive to a special part of this article : "They need to be told what they must do and what they must not do. They need control over themselves and a sense of what others are entitled to from them-cooperation, thought¬fulness, an attentive ear and eye. They need discipline not only to tame their excesses of emotion but discipline also connected to stated and clarified moral ". This sentence makes sense today more than ever.
For a long time, I was not aware of the necessity and importance of the education. I thought that it was innate and natural to have a good education, and that the children who was not educated ( to my mind) was the one who rejected the education of their parents. Actually, I did not really understand the people who were telling my brother and myself that we were well educated. It is when I came to America that I became aware of my education and how important was it.

For 18 years, my parents fight every day to strive to give to their children a good education, even if there is no real "rules" or "book" , to explain how to educate and raise his children. Today, I am totally aware of the bases of my education and I am really grateful to my parents. It is seeing the people around me, in a different country, and from France as well as all voer the world that I understood what education is. Education is following you during the whole life. Bases that parents told you are integrated in you, and that is refelcting in everone's behaviour in every circumstances. Being far from my parents, I now understand the meaning of every single word the told me during my childhood. I am now able to live by myself in a different country, thanks to the clear mind they taught me, and I am also able to benefit from their experience, because my aprnets told me how lucky I am to have the opportunity to discover the world at such a young age.

Relation with others, respect, open-mindedness, diplomacy, understanding, listening to people, interest to discover people from all voer the world and importance of it are the concepts learnt for 18 years, which gave me the possiblity to live my parent's home at 18.
Children need to be taught and also reassure during their childhood. The childhooh is the momentwhere the bases of the life are putting down, and it will help yu or put you in difficulties during all your life. In a sense, the period of the childhood is a period where you store up strenghts and moral of life which will help ou during all your life;
It makes sense to me few months ago, and this is what I re understand through this article.

my idea of famliy education by chen jin

first of all i must say that family education is very important in our life. Our parents taught us how to talk, how to walk, and live our own life. However, i have to say some of parents dont know how to teach their child. when i was a child, my mother told me that if i lying my nose will be grow long. it seems very irony that how can people use a lie to tell other people dont lying.
in china and the most aisan county. parents will hit thier child if they do something wrong very usual. i think this is not a good thing to do.
at last i just want to say that our parents taught us a lot. they do everything for our own good. no matter how they teach us, it is always the love from them

Parents' education builds up children's moral and ethical believes!! (By Lei Gao)

When we were born, we did not know what the right or wrong things are. Even when we were very young as a little kid, we cannot easily recognize those. That's because we recognize these issues based on our moral and ethic believes. However, when we are adults, we can easily distinguish the correct issues from the others. This is a long process to own this ability. In this process, our parents are the most important parts, which gradually help us build up such moral believes.

Children like to imitate what the parents have done. When we are very young, parents are our only teachers. And people we can only trust are our parents. Gradually, activities of our parents make us have great impression in our minds. We do not have any other choice to believe and care others' activities. It is like nature of trusting parents. With the growing of our trusting, we try to imitate or copy their activities. In this way, their thinkings are copied into our minds deeply. Especially the moral and ethical believes easily enter our minds.

Most teachers in schools teach us knowledge and theories; and parents teach us how to be a person. Our value belief is based on moral and ethical thinkings. We firstly judge a kind of activities as right or wrong issue based on parents' moral and ethical thinkings. For instance, parents would tell us doing like this is right or wrong. This kind of educations is curved in our minds deeply. Those issues can not be easily replaced by others.

Therefore, parents' education is very important, because children really care and wonder what they agree with. In this process of education, parents become moral authority of children. For example, some teenage smokers are really afraid that their parents notice that, because their parents tell them smoking is not good. Under the pressure of parents' authority, they dare not let their parents see that. In another point of view, positive education will lead children to be a positive person. Negative education may lead them to be deviant.

By reading the article I listen to my parents and I wonder what they believe, it shows examples and disscussions to prove the importance of parents' education, including some positive ones and also negative parts. As a child of my parents, I feel that my parents play important roles in building up my personality. Without them, I am nothing.

family education (Yuan Xu)

Family education plays an important role in child's life. Parents is children's teachers in someway. When children are young, they cannot judge the truth or the wrong thing. Parents should help them to establish the right world view. Children often watch and learn thier parents' behaviors. Nowadays, parents are paying more attention to the training of their children than ever before. Now, many children in cities have family tutors and more and more children have to learn a lot before they go to school. This is mainly because parents want their children to become somebody or to live better when they grow up. In addition, families have money and energy than before to afford family training. However, some parents want thier children go the way which they want. It maybe disobeys the children's interest. Because parents are the leaders iin family they do the things as thier thinking method. In this way, it is easy to get conflicts between children and parents. In my view, parents should try to respect children's ideas.

Family Education (Xinbei Xie)

There are three aspects of education in our lifetime: family education, school education and social education. Family education is the earliest education in our lives. It is also the longest one that can influence our lives . Family education plays an important role. It can't be replaced by other education.

A person's whole life has always been a close link with family. Parents is a child 's first teacher. A family's enveriment can influence a child's growing up and a child's character. As the first teacher for kid, they should set a good example for their children. Parents have experienced much more things than children. Although sometimes we have mental generation gap in a lof of things with our parents. I think we should respect the idea of our parents.

After all, parents are the persons that understand us most. They can give us many useful suggestion in our lives

Family Education by Shuhua Lu

Family Education by Shuhua Lu

The reading material, I Listen to My Parents and I Wonder What They Believe, talks about the family education. Robert Coles, the writer of the article, writes many simple things in detail, which makes the story vivid and gets me to remember my parents.

As Coles mentioned in the article, and I find this to be very true, “you should honor your father and mother most of all; that is why you should find out what they think and then sort of copy them. But sometimes you are not sure if you are on the right track.” I totally agree with this point of view. A child will love his/her parents from their first memory and begin to copy. It is natural and innate. Therefore, I believe the family education is one of the most important reasons, which let us to be who we are.

As for me, I think that we can not choose our parents, but we can choose who we are. The thing that means most to our parents does not be the most in our lives. We can also be the person who we want to be.

Listen to your Parents So you can learn... By Dila

I always believe that, education is one of the necessary thing to improve yourself. However, for me education is not just about a school. There is more important and more educational places in our lives, such as home and our environment.
Home education is one of the important things that we can learn from life. We learn everything from our parents, rights, wrongs, believes, and every other details.

"In many homes parents establish moral assumptions, mandates, priorytie
.They teach children what to believe in, what not to believe in."
This quote from "I Listen to My Parents", and I definitely agree with that. Parents give us everything they know, they teach their opinions, their values and we keep everything in our mind and when it is time to use we are using them.
However for me, even thought parents thought, and believes are important we cannot and should not use it the way they teach to us. We learn from them, we get our wrongs and rights that is why we should decide our rights and wrongs too. We should shape our thoughts with the things that we learned from our parents.
That is why i like this sentences from same article,
"But you should honor your father and mother most of all; that's why you should find out what they think and then sort of copy them. But sometimes you're not sure if you're on the right track."

Learn whatever you can from your parents it is never too late, or you are never too old to learn from them. Listen, them even they are wrong or right for you than you do not have to do everything they say. Than you will have chance to choice from right and wrong.

Freedom Writer, Freedom way by Shuhua Lu

Freedom Writer, Freedom way by Shuhua Lu

Last week, we spent almost two classes in watching the movie, Freedom Writer.

It is about a new female teacher with high ambition and no experience. She wants to teach students Odyssey and make them read Annie’s Diary. However, it is not simple. The movie depicts the process that she leads students to be good people by writing diary. They are not cynical anymore. They begin to learn how to trust and love each other. Of course, she eventually, gets students’ respect and affection. The movie has a happy ending.

I think that she was an amazing teacher. Also, I believe that everyone wants to have that kind of teacher, who will encourage us, trust us and try her best to teach us. She will not only worry about the reasons why we lag behind in our studies, but also care about the motives why we upset. That is a great teacher.

who can become our teacher in our life? (Satomi Minegishi)

What is education? Education defines as the learning of knowledge, information and skills on the courses of life in. When people were children, these acknowledge are given by their parent at first. In this sense, it is possible that people can say their parents are teachers in their life because their moral and ethical values are mostly affected by their parents.
Needless to say, my personality affected by my parents a lot. When I was a child, my parents strongly recommended to me reading books which include moral and ethic departments of books. Furthermore, my parents teach me the value of being modesty and virtue from their experiences. At the time I could not understand why I had to do. In other words, I hates these times. It was boring and I thought it was waste of time. However, I realize that it is essential to me that I know a law of etiquette and using honorific words to talk to older people with a lot of experiences as growing up. With reading books and hearing what my parents said, I was never sold or looked down by others in the sense of education.
Education is not only the means of study, but also the definition of person’s personality or the way of life. That is why parents are the most effective people and teachers in people’s life.

To teacher the highest respect (Andy Su)

“Freedom Writer” is acctualy a very good movie. The film reflects the real era of social at that time. How to alleviate this situation is indeed a very serious problem.
If, like most of the other people at that time, do absolutely nothing, will only worsen the situation. These students are being discriminated against from an early age, living in such a deplorable condition and without the slightest care. They will inevitably grow up to the next generation of double discrimination.
Fortunately, they have such a good teacher. In the film, she made all the sacrifices for them will not repeat it here. I just want to say: To teacher the highest respect!

Parents (Pengcheng Gao)

There is no denying that parent is the first and the best teacher for their children. All their motions are able to affect the personalities and the moral values of their child. The child keeps learning everything from their parents, no matter what are they doing is right or wrong.
Therefore, parents have to set their child up a good example because they are the first one who enlighten their baby as the best model.

Teacher is the second and the second best teacher for child. Every student regard their teacher as their parent in school. They are respecting to each other but teacher doesn't have the love of parents.

I believe that every parent want their bady behaving like themself, even better than themself. Thus, every parent wanna show themself as the best in front of their bady.
In contrast, in my mind, family education is more important than school education for no reasons.

Gender Equality by Shuhua Lu

Gender Equality by Shuhua Lu

The article, Choosing Clothes, but Not Husbands, talks about the women’s situations and rights in Afghan through describing the way they get married.

The writer, Joseph Berger, enumerates a lot of people’s thought. The most impressive one is “men have corrupted views of Islam and actually believe women are second-class citizens…for more than a few families even the notion of educating their daughters beyond high school is regarded as daring…And men actually think they have a right under the Koran to beat their wives.,” said by Ms. Naderi. I think that it is absolutely a stupid, bossy and arbitrary opinion, which should not exist in modern society.

Individuals are born equal. Everyone has right to receive education or pursue love. These are natural rights, which will not change because of nationality, race or gender.

about the film (jiran.qiu)

Honestly, Ive already forgotten the name of that film but still clearly remenber every plots of it. White and black, two totally against colors, also represent two different kind of people. They used to hate each other, even fight each other. The film illustrates how serious the problem was and how a white teacher gave her great love to them who were black persons and grew up in quite complex enviornment. Even though we did not see the whole film, it still shocked us.

Learn From my parents (Yoona, Hahm)

By reading the article, "I listen to my parents and I wonder what they believe", it shows how much important education from parents is. People learn moral value in many ways. Some can learn from their friends and others can figure out by themselves. Most of all, the lesson from parents is one of the most important and it has strong impact to their children. What parents belive is what their children is going to believe. This is in nature. So, parents always should keep their points of view firm, keep their eye on their children and teach them not to be confused what is right and wrong.

This article reminds me of my parents. The big part of "I" is made by my parents. I have been trying to do and to act the same as my parents do and they did. Also, when I face some troubles, I ask my problems to my parents first. They advise me and help me as much as they can. Through their advices, I think by myself and act in the right way (which I think). By this process, I can learn what my parents believe. Sometimes, it is different from my opinion and what I believe, and then I get confused. However, finally, the thoughts of parents are mostly right. That is why I have to believe what they believe.

Education(Alex)

i really think education is not really important. i feel like it is usuless. it just teach u how to do something. i think experience because by the experience we will learn lots of things
if you find what you want to do in your future or what you like to do, then get lost. don't hace to be educate anymore. get a job as soon as you can , because if you start now you will get experience more and you will learn more. so that i think education is not really important if you know what you want to be.

Education?The way we live!(Chongran Hao)

Every body claims education is not important any more, experience, ability and personality should be the main components in our lives. What I'm thinking is experience, ability and personality all come from education. In others words, they are the production of education.
We got the first education from parents, and then primary school, middle schol, high shcool, university or higher education. Every step could result in different live. The people who say education cannot be the most important component, that's the witness from the people who hold the lower education. Education is definitely important and we have different educations that's why we have differnt lives.
I think it's important to achieve college education and it's necessary in your life in the future. The reasons are 1.It's a further application of what you have learned in the previous studys. 2. Its a necessary path before you go to work. 3. College education can make you understand more about you specific career, and what you should be focused on. Even though we get in college, we are still different levels. Edutcation? We can never live without it.

Parents are the best teacher for their children (Donghyuk, Na)

The education is the most important part of our life. We can learn and do something from the education. There are many place and ways to get education. I think the parents are the best teacher for their children.
Most of us know a little about how babies learn to talk. From the time infants are born, they hear language because their parents talk to them all the time. Parents are most crucial for development of their kid’s personality. This means all of people’s character was molded by their parents. From this reason, I strongly agree with the statement that parents are the best teacher in our life. Usually, most of teenagers have spent their time with their parents while living with them, so parents understand their children better than anyone else does. Therefore, parents can teach something different from school lessons, provide broad education for teenagers, and give their children real advice.

family education (by Mengmeng Chen)

I listen to my parents and I wonder what they believe

After read this article, I believe that the author's views and examples are closely related to our own experience. How do children develop moral understanding and moral values is the most concerned problem for our parents. It is the best time to understand what children think about the world before they become teenagers, therefore, parents are doing everything to give children the best education when they are very young and lead them to the right way.
I think there are three kinds of important educations in our lifetime, family education, school education and social education. After read this article especially the examples, personally, I prefer to think this way that the family education is very important especially for a child. Since family education is the earliest education for a child when they first to get to distinguish right from wrong in this complicated world, parents are playing key roles in this certain part. What kind of family education background would affect children to become what kind of person.
Different family has different way to teach their children. No matter what kind of family education, we know that parents are well-intentioned and they always love their children.

Black men and public space (Aakash Mehta)

I got so much depressed when I read this article. I came to USA before 8 months and was not aware of such black-white discrimination. I really wonder why we do that. I use "we" here as we are people and we are the world. In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh there is similar discrimination between Hindu-Muslim casts. Kashmir is a state and half part of it is under Pakistan authority and the rest half under Indian authority. So these countries quarrel with each other to occupy the whole Kashmir state. We used to be a one country before few years. Now we act as enemies. Now we fight for our religions also. We fight for temples and mosques. We kill innocent children who don't know what is religion and what is cast. I wonder why we do so? Here I saw black-white discrimination. I need to give one message to this world even though I am not authorized, that we all are similar. We are one family. We share the same air, water and food. We dress similarly. Our genetic configuration is the same. Even we all share a common evolutionary ancestor. Then why all these? Why to fight with your own family members? Are there competitions within the same family? If one member of my own family (world) can understand this then I would consider my life worth.

Freedom Writer (Aakash Mehta)

The movie freedom Writer is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The message this movie gives is outstanding. I still don't know why there is so much discrimination around in this world. But the movie shows how to fight such situation in a very good manner. Really such discrimination must be stopped. This world is not good for enmity; rather it is good for friendship and brotherhood. We all are one family. To change this mentality in this world we need to start from ourselves. If we won't discriminate others, others won't discriminate us and will learn from us. Remember, we run the world and we need support from our family(World) to do so.

The Achievement of Desire (Aakash Mehta)

The Achievement of Desire is a very nice article by Richard Rodriguez. Well organized telling us about his own experiences of his education life. He briefly discussed here the basic family and schooling education. I would definitely say that basic family and schooling education mold your life to achieve success. Parents teach us various aspects of life from their own experiences. In most cases person's mentality reflects his/her family background. Almost all the things we do today are basically taught by our parents; the first word we spoke in our life, the first step we took to walk in life, how to eat, how to behave and many more. Apart from these schools teach us disciplines and basic education. As I think parents mold the interior of our personality and schools, exterior in most cases. For me, I won't be a person today without education from my parents and schools. Still there are interior areas in Eastern countries like India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and even China where the rate of illiteracy is high over total population. This modern 21st century world can't afford this. Moral is, we need to use our basic education to make each and every person literate in this world. If we can imagine ourselves without education we got till today then we should be able to understand its power and should try to make this world educated not only the countries.

The education for whole life (Jianle pan)

Everybody must be educated pre-primary, primary school, middle school, high school and even university. However, which one is the most important in your life? Maybe you think both middle school and high school, because good study in middle school and high school will lead to good university, besides, someone may say university as it related to your future job. But to me, I think the first education since I born is the most important in my whole life. Because the first education teach me how to respect others, how to be a person that everybody love you, how to take care others, which will make you deep express through the first education. It's affect you the way you think about your life and others life. Mostly, this kind of the first education is your parents. In my mind, the most education for whole life is the original education environment that you live in. Then you have a ability to distinguish bad things and good things. I love my parents because they gave me very important education when I was child. I know that how to love people and how to avoid bad things.

what is the meaning of education for us? JunHyung Park

Education is really important for us. whatever education could be school education, or home education from our parents. However, what i want to say is we have to learn things which we can only from our parents at first, and then we have to learn subjects like language, math, science and so on. that is, most education must be based on home education. If so, what can we leran something from our parents? the answer is humanity. i think that the most greatest teacher is our parents to learn humanity. if some students act fool, people usually censure their parents rather than the students. like this, humanity is heritage from our parents. No matter how people who are wealthy, genious, if they lack of home education, they might be failed, or screwed up their relationship before long. the most well-educated person is who has been learned home education + school education that is the person who has high percantage could be on high level in our society. we can not choose either home education or shool education. only both can make gorgeous grown man.

The archivement of desire (Satomi Minegishi)

In this article, the audience would realize the different education levels of people; the author, the author’s mother and father. Education in some way alienates people from their family, friends, and social classes. It seems to me that acquiring knowledge is valuable for us. The reason is because this essay shows us how the author succeeds in his life by comparing his life with other people’s lives which include his family member’s lives. However, I wonder whether it is good or bad for his life. In other words, did he achieve good relationships with his family in his life? Actually, he succeeds in a department of academic studies and he becomes an educated person. On the other hand, however, he has a hard time spending his free time with his family. In his article, I found that his family looks fake. That is because, even though I read this article, it was difficult to find out whether he could share his feelings with his family or not. He would rather read books than talk with his family. Generally speaking, family members can share their feelings with their parents, brothers or sisters. As I was growing up, I used to talk about what I felt on a day and what I read with my parents and sisters. By sharing our experiences with each other, we laughed a lot and understood each other’s thinking. We encouraged each other whenever we were disappointed in school or work. Family is defined as supporting each other. However, in this essay, the author’s family is not what supports each other. In this sense, it is questionable to me if the author could say that he made the achievement of desire without his family’s relationship in his life.

i listen to my parents and i wonder what they believe (Lucy Jiao)

this article talkes about what the childen think of their parents' belief while they are given home-nurture. and i found something about the parents have told us when we were little

from:http://bluffcharging.wordpress.com/2008/04/10/lies-your-parents-told-you/

I keep remembering all those weird lies they told me when I was a kid. So here’s a few of the best:
“If you swallow melon seeds, a melon will grow in your stomach” - Um, why did they tell me this. Did they have a deal with a local therapist? Who knows.
“If you swallow chewing gum, it will stick your insides together.” - This one used to terrify me.
[Said when I was pulling a strange expression] “If the wind changes, you’ll stay like that” - This didn’t even make sense at the time.
“If you sit too close to the television, you’ll go blind” - There were lots of other lies they told about things that would make me go blind, but this was the first.
“If you eat lots of carrots, you can see in the dark” - Um, not after sitting so close to the television, I can’t.
“If you’re bad, Santa Claus won’t bring you any presents” - This is actually true, right ?
“If you go out dressed like that, you’ll catch a cold” - The common cold is a virus. It has nothing to do with the weather.
There’s probably plenty more but those are the ones that have stayed with me all this time.

what they think when they said that to us? maybe they were taught those white lies from their parents and so on.

i always believe my parents, even their lies. i guess i was a good kid, they must have reason of lieing to me; what they believe, i think, they wanna me know that the world is evil and i need to protect myself. definately they are right, but i dont have to believe them, you know; world is beautiful, and evil is just one part of the beauty of the world. i love advantures, most of the time, i love messing up with evil stuff, so when/if i have child one day, i will teach him/her the truth.

Living in the different world (Jungtzu Lin)

Why do we need education?

The reason for the working class must be different from one for the rich people. For the working class, education is needed, because it provides us more “opportunities for job advancement” and chances “to escape from a life of mere labor.” On the other hand, for the rich, education is required to keep their social status.

I think that education system exists for keeping the hierarchy and reproducing the elite. To success in school – to be one of the elite – must require a person who belongs to the working class to change his way and view of life. Therefore, it is true that education in some way alienates us from our parent, our class and our origins unless we belong to the elite. After achieving his desire, Rodriguez must lament not being proud of his parents’ enormous native intelligence, which he could not learn in the world of school.

Black Man and PublicSpace (Lucy Jiao)

this critical writing argues that people still have a serious problem of discrimination to other colors of humankind. I totally could understand this discrimination issue. Of course this issue is happening in every where too, such as the city I was born--Shanghai.

White people used to call black people Negro, and call yellow Chinks; but now, black people call each other Niggar, or yellow call the other yellow as Chinkky. Maybe, it is how that person think about himself.

Around two weeks ago, one guy from another part of China criticizes that Shanghainess are the worst kind of Chinese. I mean, how and why would you say that?! During the depression, Shanghai was the city supported China the most; but now some troublemakers start smirching the the truth.

It's not how other people think about you, it's all because of you; when you are strong enough, no harsh comments could ever stab you or what so ever.

Black Men and Public Space(Tae Kyoung Kim)

i think he react to much because of he is tall and black man he should prode of him sefe. don't have to think what people think about him. we should think different then before black people are not always dangerous, we have to think different just what we saw or what we think mkae them unconfotable

Black Men and Public Space (Xinbei Xie)

In "Black men and Public Space", the author described many things that most young black men experience on more than once. Obviously, the reasons of the things happend just because the color of their skin. This essay makes me realize a commom phenomena: discrimination.

We all know the humankind be seperate in three large races: white, yellow and black. I think there is still the discrimination problem in our world even though Obama is the President of the US. For example, an affair that happened in CNN in the US. The anchorman said that he thought Chinese are basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years undisguisedly. I think this is a heavy racial discrimination. Although the racial discrimination problem has existed from ancient time. It has become a normal phenomenon. We should tey to avoid this peoblem. It is an affront to human dignity. It has condemned by the international public opinion and international organizations.

The world is a big family. All the human beings should be unity together.

Discrimination (YU FU,AMY)

Black Man and Public Space
This article makes me think of the problems of discrimination, such as: racial, gender, and culture. Even though some of the famous leaders have tried to wipe out these kinds of discrimination, such as, Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, the discrimination still exist today. There are many phenomena that could prove this point. Most of the leaders in companies are men that hold positions such as, CEO and manager, although women, if given the chance to succeed, can possibly do it better than men. That’s because the majority of people think men are more talented and wise than women.
When we talk about some crimes, such as, robbery and murder, we always think of black men committing it. However, I’ve found out ever since I’ve been in America that black men were more friendly and kind than other races.
People called on equality at least a century ago, but it hasn’t been realized veritably. We should value and comment everyone equally, rather than judge them by their nationality, race and gender.

"My ... Problem" (Jungtzu Lin)

Not only “Negro” but also we all have the ability to alter public space in ugly ways because of “the language of fear”. The feeling of alienation – living among many people not knowing each other – causes “the language of fear”. Especially in a big city, it is almost impossible to find a person who knows you or whom you know in public space, and we are not sure how to avoid risks. On the contrary, when you live in a small town, and know everybody in your community, you are sure to know how to avoid risks and you feel safe.

“The language of fear” makes everybody “hunch posture”. However, it is true that young black males have more possibilities to be considered as dangerous because they are drastically overrepresented among the perpetrators. It must be very annoying to be taken for a criminal. However, as long as we live in a big city, we should know that we have possibilities to be taken for a criminal depending on location, time and our outward appearances.

Racial discrimination should be solved (Donghyuk Na)

I think the racial discrimination is appear in a sense of superiority by they feel there´s own superiority others. The racial discrimination make serious problems, so thst should be solved. For that, the most important is change a recognition. Also, people are educated about culture and racial diversity. About this education, they abolish the cultural relativism. And they respect others custom. From this education, people might don't have a sense of superiority and discriminative idea about foreigner. And they don't misundersand about action of foreigner. This way can increase people's sensitivity toward cultural and racial diversity, and to increase their acceptance of cultural and racial diversity.

We should know that our society embrace diversity and living in harmony with people from different cultures without racial discrimination.

Racial discrimination (Pengcheng Gao)

Racial discrimination refers to the racism that believe the different races of people have different characters and that their own race is the best.
Personally, I totally disagree with this issue. Even though this issue has lasted a long time, but I believe it is bad for every human being because everyone is created equally.
Let's take the current situation of American president for example. That is the best example that make us ponder over. Why Obama is the first black president of American in history? Obviously, it is because of the racial discrimination.
The racial discrimination of anyone doesn't mean anything about his or her personality.
To concluding, the world will be peaceful and flourish without racial discrimination.

A small change can make a big change. (Yoona Hahm)

According to the article "A slow walk of trees", it shows changes of beliefs about abilities of black people. In the past, it was impossible for black people to do something. Also, the author's grandfather and his father thought so. Even though his grandmother and his mother thought more positively and tried to open minds, there was many restrictions on black people.

However, "like the slow walk of certain species of trees from the flatlands up into the mountains," the society where we live is changing. Nowadays, there are more opportunity for black people to do what they want unlike in the past which has restrictions. Our society tries to provide a chance impartially. This small tries and changes make a big change. The new president of the United States is the representative example. Nobody, in the past, could not imagine the black president. However, it happened through small changes.

Of course, the discrimination still exists. However, it is getting disappear. Maybe the change looks so tiny and so small that we can not recognize it. We can not notice the big change like this example until a few decade years later.

My point of view on discrimination (Dmitry Ustyantsev)

The stories  "Slow walk..." and "Black man..." didn't touch me much. That is very typical. Fear and alertness against aliens or those who looks too strange and too different, who behaves differently. Every new wave of immigration was met with fear in America: the Irish, the Italians, who were often automatically considered as criminals, they didn't even have to be of different race, so what can be expected about Blacks or Latinos?.. Black people are not recent immigrants but there was a segregation. America is not an exception in such behavior, in Russia, if you look like an Asian or a man from Caucasus you may not be surprised that cops check your documents more often than if you would look Slavic. I find that explainable, because in reality some immigrants are illegal and are involved in criminal activity. Even Brent Staples, the author of "Black man..." agrees that Black guys appear often in criminal statistics. People spread the "bad guy's" image over the whole group and start to panic over those people, and that creates conflicts.
My experience teaches me different things. In my hometown in Russia I have fought on the street because groups of guys tried to rob me, twice, they were Russians.
In America, every Tuesday I go to a Filipino martial arts class at the same time, after dark. Few times I met the same old man on the street, who walked the same direction before me.  when he saw me he stopped, stared at me, said "goodnight" and let me pass so I was no longer behind his back. I am white, about 5 and a half feet.
Discrimination is common. Just don't support people of your group who discriminate the other one, or, if are the victim, stay strong and fight for what is yours.

some idea after read the "black...space"(chen jin)

after i read this essay first thing in my mind is a essay i read last year. the essay talking about the tatoo. my idea is a person's personality is not only show in at outside, also inside. if you do not know this person please do not say anything about him or her. for example, some people think that people who has tatoo is scare, but my brother has a tatoo and he is very kind and nice.
however, i have to say racialism is in everywhere. people usuanlly push aside the people they think is weird.
at the last i want to say is we are equal. i hope there is one day when we talk about a person is not about his color, culture, nationality, only ability

America is equal to everyone (By Lei Gao)

The United States is liberal and equal nowadays. We come from different countries having different belives. The same thing we wish is that the world is equal to everyone. After reading this article, I find that actually the world is not equal to every people. In America, racism has existed for a long time. The article illustrates the problem of public space appeared by racism. People usually afraid of Afican-Americans when they are sharing public spaces with black people. This is a way that seperates people by colors. Gradually, this kind of afraid becomes habit. And the distance of people in different colors is wider and wider.

Most people know that discrimination of colors cannot adapt to this society. However, people usually cannot get over the afraid of African-Americans. As the article mentions, even the strong black people with soft heart always scares others. So in my opinion, discrimination depends on people's attitudes. Everyone should try to communicate and build up some new relationships with different people in different colors.

Hundreds of years ago, the United States was created by liberal belief. Colonists from different countries lived here for a new life. Through some presidents' and citizens' efforts, this country becomes equal and peaceful. People get over slave, wars and economic crisis. For the future, with our efforts, those problems of racism can disapear one day.

segregation in U.S.A - Jihoon Kim

Since november, 2008, black people think that they are winning from segregation. From starting history of U.S.A ,through president Lincoln and now, their life are slaves, and they have segregation. So they were fighting from racial discrimination, and they gets a excellent result, but does segregation go out of sight? black people are feeling racism but Asian are feeling racism from all American people, of course black people in American. They need to see in their history for reallise win from racism.

Everyone has the samethings(GuangDi Zhu)

Before I came to American, I was always think about Americans are especially and different than Chinese. But I can’t found any different. I mean if we are just talking about people’ especially. May be the culture is different but we are all human being. We can find good people and bad people everywhere. We also can feel people’s jealousy, abomination, love, deceive and virtuous for every people.
When I read the article about “Just walk on by: black man” I can’t agree with the writer, because I think people will afraid him is not just he is a black man. Everyone will afraid some thing but it isn’t just for the black people.
I think if you think some one is discriminating you that mean you are discriminating other people!

Say "No" to racial discrimination (Andy Su)

Racial discrimination had existed in ancient times, even now, it is still exists. This phenomenon is by the reactionary ruling class to take legislative, administrative and other measures, to advocate and disseminate ideas of racial superiority and racial hatred. (http://baike.baidu.com/view/55981.htm) World War II can be said caused by racial discrimination.
Interesting thing is, even people are the same colour, the same nationality, discrimination still exists. City people look down on country folk. This shows the evil nature of mankind, requires the separation of merits.
Therefore, as a college student, we must put an end to this evil. Say "No" to racial discrimination!

Racism by Sehoon Kim

After reading this article, I also feel that dscrimination for black men is very serious problem. Some black guys are dealt with something bad even they are good people as the article metioned. However, unlikely other people, I think that black people have to change their mind.

As time goes by, most people perceive that the world must change into the world where discrimination disappeared. For this reason, black men have a chance to be good person. In spite of this fact, the crime is often occured by black men so that people have the emotion to be scared. I think this is serious problem. It makes people have discrimination for black men.

When I lived in Brooklyn for winter break, I saw many black men there. Some black men are very kind when we met, but, in case of other black men, when I just passed by next them, they said to me you go away, something like that. At that time, I felt scary.

Before they complaint their discrimination, I think they need to know what they usually are doing to other people like me, asians.

we are equal in the world (Yuan Xu)

Race discrimination has exsited fo very long time. The root of the problem is that diffrent race has diifferent backgroup and wold view. Sometimes racilist discriminates some poeple have diiferent skin- colour with it because it does not know the race well. The seperation made the unfamilirity and misunderstanding. There are many reasons which made the seperation. For example, the distance beteen diffrent area A and area B is so large, which made that the people in the two areas can not comunicate well. In that way, it is easy to get misunderstanding between the people in the different places. However, the situation is becoming better. Nowadays, the transportation is so good. It makes we can travel thousands miles in one day, which is only possible in the magic world many years ago. What is more, the morden technology provides us fantasy connect tools such as telephone, Internet. The great media improves the communication between different palces well. And there is a saying that the earth is a villege. Although high tech-knowleage bebifits us a lot, there still has discrimination beteen race. In the essay "A Slow walk of tress", we can read that the race discrimination exists hundred years ago and still being today. In my opinion, we are eqaul in the world, there is no inferior race. The different beteen us is different culture. We should try to communicateeach other in this golobe world.

White & yellow man and Public Space by Dila Yolga

Racism is one of the sensitive topics in America. As you all know America is new country, it hasn't got so much historical background in their land compare to Europe and Asia. However, there is one thing which has big role in America's little history, which is racism. So people still cannot forget that. Whatever happens, even thought it has no connection people still find a way to connect with racism.
In the "Black Men and Public Space" article, things that happened to the black man, that can happen to everyone else. For example, in Turkey, I always lock my doors whenever, I drove car. Even in here, I would lock my car, be careful whenever I am walking alone, hold my bag if someone stand right behind me, white, yellow or black doesn't matter.
My point is, color is not important, if someone thinking to hurt you they can do it in every way. But we stuck with words, and appearance. Especially for Americans, every behavior is not about racism, but they cannot see any option.
Yes I agree there is still racist behaviors to some people, but everything is not just about that...

We are equal- Chongran Hao

It is really unlawful to discriminate against any person because of his/her race or color. Whatever black, yellow, white, we are live in the same world. We are equal. People always claim we are same. I thought everything was changed completely before I read theses two articles. Now I know, it's still the virulent problem in this world.
As a Chinese student, I also feel discrimination in my live. It's just a feeling. I feel that I got cold shoulder from other colors. Sometimes it makes me feel unsafe and sad.
Actually, we are equal. But I still hope we could be equal.

Racism is period in the United States. (Hugo,Chung)

Well, I have already been here for one year. And I am really enjoying and have a pleasurable time in the United States.
I really love the United States so much because they are giving me a lot of good chances.
But of course I love Korea as much too. Now that I think about it I have never felt discriminated against out of the whole year I’ve been here.
I don’t know maybe I just mostly meet nice American people. However sometimes, in the market I can meet horribly unkind people, but it also could be possible to meet someone in my country that acts the same way.
When I read 2 Articles, I felt a little bit nervous. And frankly for our class, I would like to ask our professor “Why should we have to read those kinds of things? So I am little bit afraid because it could bit by bit show too badly of Black people. Moreover I am just afraid it could a little bit make it a big situation to black people.
But it was really good chance to think about and familiarize with the understanding about racism or racist in the United States.
This year First Black president Obama has taken office to the White House. In our school we are used to seeing black people and white people hanging out very well together. Also on the street, we often see lots of black and white couples too. But I think mostly only Asians look estranged in the United States community.
Normally Asian tendency is very sticky with only their groups. Even I was able to see Asians who were born and grown up here also. They feel I am really difficult to belong in the American community. And they just grumble about our culture being different and language also. Or sometimes it is very complex to try and talk to them. Plus I am shy.
But I think now currently it’s totally changed. America is ready to be more open and let Asian people to belong with American groups. Obama has every time said in his speech “White Americans, Black Americans, Latino Americans, Asian Americans, we are United States of America.” Look at that!! Even the government is also supporting us. And for my case, sometimes I just try to call to my black friends but I just call them Niggaz. If I call to first met person, of course it would be at a wavelength. But for me it’s ok.
We are friends. Though, our culture, skin, and language are different. Being friends makes all things possible with my favorite American kids’ unique way of shaking hands.
I have always been definite since I first came to United States. Now also my determined hasn’t changed yet. That’s the reason I still keep going and I will definitely change our Asian’s stereo type and especially for Korean to American’s thinking.
This is the time when Asians are also coming up on the main stage in the United States.
Moreover, There should be many more Asians advancing in sports, stars, and entertainers in the U.S. big market.

Gap by Shuhua Lu

gap by Shuhua Lu

After I read the two articles, I think that I knew much about the Africa Americans.

When looking at the America history, we can easily find the fact that the Africa Americans’ station is becoming higher and higher though the civil war, Martin Luther King, and Obama. However, I feel that the gap between the white and black still exists. Like the label, people always think Asian is good at math and science. That will be not easy to change.

be hurt invisibly (by Mengmeng Chen)

Black Men And Public Space

To be honest, when Professor Bai was going through the article-Black man and public space-in the class, there was only one word in my mind to describle this article at that time - exaggerative. I am not saying that the author was not telling the truth about what he experienced. Maybe I just could not accept this kind of discrimination, and I think the main reason why I could not understand the things happened on the author is I never meet this kind of problem. However, even though I myself haven't experienced this kind of discrimination, it could not be denied that it does exist somewhere in the world. I think it is exaggerative because it is definitely unfair for the people who are innocent of the racial discrimination.
The word "exaggerative" has appeared in my mind at the beginning of the story, especially on the third paragraph. The author said "I could cross in front of the car stopped at a traffic light and elicit the thunk, thunk, thunk, thunk of the driver-black, white, male, or female-hammering down the door locks". When the author was a boy, he had already doubted the virtues of intimidation early on. Therefore, he remained a shadow, timid but a survior. It seemed like that the author knew that he was considered a threat by many people for a long time. The helpless tone from the author shows he was hurt invisibly.
Similar things are happening every single day in the world. Racial profiling now is becoming a serious and controverisal issue. People seem to get used to being prejudiced by the first impression. Overall, racial discrimination is not acceptable, and also we can not judge a person only by his appearance.

Judging people by his appearance ( A. Bugubayev)

After reading in class " Black men and Public Space" I have thought - why people should react harshly and judge some person only by physical data? For example, our big guy Brent Staples was a tall, black guy with a military jacket was most of the time frightening the citizens unpurpose and making policemen worry. I think people shouldn't always act like that, because inside person can be totally different, for example, even
if he is tall and scary, inside of his heart he is a"good boy".I understand that outside look of a person gives a first impression, but still, it doesn' mean the whole thing about him.

The color got me upset By JunHyung Park

when I was in Korea, before i came here, I had nothing to do with racism. Because Korea is only consisted of one nation, one color of skin, unlike multiracial country, U.S.A. Actually, I saw the racism on t.v or internet news. However, I became to know how big problem it is, since i lived here. it was not only the problem for black people, but also most of asian. At very first time, since I started my first semester, i met one guy who was also lived in the same dorm. During first month, he treated me very gently, and kindly, but the more the time passed by, the more his behavior was changing. he acted like this is my country, so if i don't like something, you can't not do that. Moreover, here is one of good examples, he wanted to listen to the music very loudly at midnight, even i was about to go bed very soon. I really wanted him to turn off the music, but His faced looked like " I am american, but you are asian. this is my home ground. I can listen to the music, whenever i want" I thought at that time that no matter how people are thinking racism is shrinking markedly, but it is not, which is still working..." Damn racism

" the necessity of listening" by Laura

I think this article is really moved and true.
At first, the article seems repetitive and but after further investigation, I changed my mind. The author is trYing to pass on what she realized about the importance of listening. She is trying to sensibilized us telling how she realized the problem of listening in our society.
In my opinion, I think that listening to people can be very helpful, even if you do not know what to answer. Even if you do not have the answer. If anyone is coming to confide to you, you have to listen to this person. Talking to you, he might find his own answer to his problem, but he just needed to act out his thoughts.
A stare, a recognition is important, and sometimes, we need that to be more confident, and to make things clear.

Difficulty in listening to others. (Yoona Hahm)

As the times change, people tend to express themselves because a society requires the more outstnading person. As expressing their thoughts, they should talk more and more. In other words, they don't listen to others.
They don't listen to others and just keep talking. That means they would know what they want, but they would not know what the opponent wants. Finally, both cannot face each other and then run into troble.
Therefore, people should listen to each other. And then, it could be a conversation. One-way talking or listening is not a conversation.
I know it is difficult to keep listening to each other. I always try to listen to others, but I, finally, find myself who is talking. If we treat the opponents or the partners with sincere, we can focus on them more easily. Also, we can become more interested in them and wonder what they want and who they are. That is, we can listen to others more easily.

PS: I Love You by Shuhua Lu

PS: I Love You by Shuhua Lu

This weekend I saw the movie “PS: I love you”

I think the plots are not very new and complicated. However, this movie is moving.

Holly is beautiful woman. And she married to Gerry, the person she loved and loved her. Everything is perfect. However, the illness took Gerry’s life. It also took Holly’s hope and faith. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry, so he planed 10 letters to help his wife to go over the despair. At the end of every letter, he said ”PS: I love you.” Eventually, Holly had a new beginning of her life and beautiful future.

I believe every one will look forward to this kind of lover. I do not mean the death. I mean that there is a person who loves you, holds you and cherishes you, even though he is dying. He wants to make you happy in the day without him. This kind of love is valuable.

we should learn to listen( Xu Yuan)

Nowadys people are like to show individualites. It is easy that we get disagreement. Learning how to listen to others' opionions become more and more important. Although you believe that you hold the truth, you should be patient to others. As an audience, you can learn a lot from listening, even you think that speakers are wrong. In the other way, it is respectful to others if you listen carefully. While sometimes people perfer to be patient to the speaker, they should ask speakers more.

Comments about "Tell Me More" article by Dila

"Tell me more" this article is one of good and necessary articles about these days. When I first start to read, I thought this is one of the stereotypical article, because everybody keep concerning about nobody is listening each other, we need to listen etc. For me I think I always try to think first, than I would give my opinion. However this was what i felt when i start to read, than it start to make me think. Do i really listen first? I might not and one sentences made me think more. "For just as the tragedy of parents and children is not listening, so it is of husbands and wives. If they disagree they begin to shout louder and louder-if not...". Yes, when i saw that sentences, it remind me so many people around me and myself.
Everybody knows that we have to listen first, be patient and understanding but who really do that.
Yes, today's biggest problem is lack of listening other. Even you think it is stupid or meaningless, we need to listen.
Especially the man in her article, it is so true that there are so many people around me who really wants someone to listen them.
I deeply agree about BRENDA UELAND in her article "Tell Me More". However I am not sure about nyself. Can i be like that? I would try to listen others, I hope I can do it, because it is really hard to do it like Ueland said.

Help Others, Help Ourselves by Shuhua Lu

Help Others, Help Ourselves by Shuhua Lu

The article ”Why I Volunteer” is made up of five short story written by five different people. They all volunteer with refugee family.

They are all very happy through what they did because they can help others in spite of they did not know each other. I think the volunteers also learn a lot from the refugee by talking about their culture or background. Their lives will change.

Maybe volunteers do the things that everyone can do. However,They do the things that others did not do. They help people. Also, they help themselves. They let their lives more meaningful.

Listening is Love by Shuhua Lu

Listening is Love by Shuhua Lu

The author of the article “tell me more” said “Tell me more. This person is showing me his soul. It is a little dry and meager and full of grinding talk just now, but presently he will begin to think, not just automatically to talk. He will show his true self. Then he will be wonderfully alive. ” she thought that she can start up people’s creative fountain by listening. In addition, she also mentioned that women is a better listener than men. She gave two examples about that. Finally, she talked about how to listen. She did not believe critical listening, and she told us to be creative listener.

After reading the article, I learned a lot. I was a person who does not notice the importance of listening. Like the author, I will think anxiously and try my best to find several topics in order to chat with my friends. Therefore, I forget that listening is also the way people communicate. If we care about someone, we will listen to his words. If love someone, we love someone, we will listen to his soul.

The two examples that the author wrote are vivid and set me thinking. Listening is a way to represent our love. If we do not listen to each other, we cannot know each other. Therefore many lovers, couples quarrel. Because when feelings are hurt, they really begin to listen. If we cannot listen, it is the death of love.

Lucy Jiao-listen to your heart

while a ago, when i was 13, i can say i never listen to anyone, not my parents, not my family, not my friends, not my teachers either. it was because of a sudden change three years ago, and the whole three years have shaped me into an understanding person.

i came to the States when i was sixteen; the first school welcomed was a military boarding school. i thought people there were gonna be nice; however, that place could be a concentration camp with a lot of devils. that following year, i was trained to be "aggressive", and i actually started listening to other people.

that summer, i went to new hampshire for summer school. there i met tons of new people; there were two left me most impressions. the first one was a girl from a wealthy family, she talked to me a lot about her little sister, her stepmother, her family's history. the day we left that school, she told me:" Lucy, you are so lucky, you don't actually understand what i have said, but your patient and company have made me a great summer."

the other Asian girl was adopted by a white family, we talked a lot cuz her life was such a fascinating story. we finally bacame lifetime friends, and next summer we are going to the country where she came from and going to find her real family.

so, the next year, i went back to the military school and became a leader of girls' company. i was totally fresh, of course i was frustrated as well. how could i know how to control those devils?! thanks to my mentor, she gave me a lot advice of how to be a good leader, such as listening and setting a role model. i followed what she had told me, and magic did happened. i set myself and my company the best reputation in this military school, and we won the biggest award of the whole year. until now, all my girls want to talk to me by phone or on the internet; just because i was and am a good listener.

last year i went to Shanghai, where i was born and raised; my parents amazingly found out that i am more mature and understanding than three years ago. it was because of all the good time and bad i have been through, that helped me growing up.

being a good listener can not only bring you more friends also suprise. today i look back, i was no longer that aggressive and angry person, i have friends, family, strangers, and whole world. change an attitude towards others, life will show you another utopia.

Please listen - Chongran Hao

God also wish us to listen more. That's why he gave us 1 mouth and 2 ears.
Communication includes speaking and listening. But people always listen less and speak more. That's the biggest problem.
Listening is the best way to change ourself.

Tell me more (Xinbei Xie)

Trying to learn listening from others.

Listening is a kind of happiness actually. We may listen to the parents'grrulous chatter as well. This is a performance of love. We also may listen to colleagues and friends' pleasure and trouble. This is a performance of friendly.

Receiving some criticism. Everyone has shortcomings. Everyone's working methods and ideas are not perfect. This requires other persons to point out. That criticism is a concern, love, and also a help.

A person who can listen from others and digest in mind is a valuable person.

Have a nice Weekend (Hugo,Chung)

Well, I would like to introduce one of my favorite quote inside part about listening.

J isham said

Listening is an attitude of the heart, a genuine desire

to be with another which both attracts and heals.
