What Is Writing
I am not a good narrator speaker. Just like the other members in my family, I am not a good speaker. I am not good at express my feelings, my opinions when I talk to the others. Sometimes, when I want to say some touched words, the words come out in my mind, I know what I want to say, but I just cannot speak it out. The words stop in my mouth my lips. All of the members in my family have that problem. I still remember the first time when I leave China, leave my parents. My parents and sister came to sent me to America in the airport. We seldom talked to each other. They just let me take care of myself and keep safe. The image and words looked not like parents sent their daughter to a country which far away from them and for a long time. But when I arrived in America, and then I called my father, he told me my mom cried in the airport just like a baby when I said goodbye and entered the waiting room. She missed me, but she cannot say it when she faced me.
Compared with community and speak, writing is much easier for me to express my feelings. Writing is a good way for me to express the opinion and feelings which is difficult express through talk. When I write, I feel comfortable and clam in my heart.
We start writing when we are in our own country both in our own language and English. Many international student think write in English is much harder the in their own language, and the most hard problem is that they will think that sentence in their own language and then transfer it to English. Before I came here, I also had that problem. In China, our teacher taught us to write in the same model, and most of the writing were just simple translate. For example, in the exam or exercise, they will give you around ten sentences in Chinese and then let you write a story with these Chinese sentences. So we seldom have chance to express our own opinion. And we became used to translate little by little. When I just start to write here, I still didn’t throw the habit of “translate”. During ESL program, when I began to write, I always think what I should write in Chinese, and then translate them to English. So during that time I still did not feel what is writing. But with the more chance of write and practice, I begin to write in English thought. I throw the step of Chinese translate. And I begin to enjoy the writing. When I write an essay, I just write down what comes out in my mind, maybe there are some grammar mistakes, but I still keep writing, and when I finished the whole essay, I begin to work out the mistakes. These words in my essay come out directly in English and they are the trustiest opinion of mine.
In my mind, writing is the best way to express our feelings.

Compared to most Asian countries, Taiwan has a higher percentage of women holding elected offices. How and why Taiwanese women have achieved this greater degree of gender parity in politics is a question not only intellectually intriguing but also politically important. This paper argues that Taiwanese women have enjoyed a higher degree of political participation because Taiwanese feminists in recent years have helped to transform an old institutional design into a new and forward-looking system. The old institutional design is the reserved-seats system that has been a constitutionalized political practice in Taiwan for decades, and the forward-looking system is to set a gender quota for presidential...

The article discusses the changes in gender policies that have been affected by global discourse in South Korea. It notes that the women's agenda that are based on human rights have pushed government to establish new legislation for women including the Korea government; however, the government is likely to establish policies that disregard various women's situations. Lastly, women's issues cannot be unified in a general national policy if women's circumstances remain diverse. Therefore, various strategies to address specific practices in local contexts are necessary.

What is the real impact of women's representation on policy changes in Latin American countries? This essay will focus on one country- Brazil- and look at the impact of low representation in the implementation of policies targeted directly to women's rights. In the case of Brazil, the critical mass literature does not explain why we see some success in certain aspects of women's rights legislation, while seeing almost no change in other areas. In order to explore women's rights issues this paper focus on two specific policy debates that have been widely discussed in Brazil in the recent years: domestic violence and reproductive rights, more specifically, abortion rights. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript

The Achievement of Desire(Lingli Huang)
"Your parents must be proud of you." The author always hear this refrain, because he was a good "schoolarship boy" when he was in school. He did well in school education, and it looks good in the other people's mind who have traditional idea about education such as education is good. But when he grew up, it look a little different, he realized it is wrong, education is not so good. Education destoried his life.
In his article, he mentions many times:"I never forget that schooling had irretrievably changed my family life.""I remembered too well that the education had changed my family life.""I would not have become a schoolarship boy had I not so foten remembered" After the author went to school to get education, he changed a lot. He became bookish, puzzling to all his family. He said"I was oddly annoyed when I was unable to get parental help with a homework assignment." The lake of his parents' education made him respect his parents less. "It mattered that education was chaningme. It never caused to matter." The schooling speart him and his family. His home become silence when he get higher education. When the author get older, become an adult, he just ealized it.
In my mind, education is not so bad as the author said, at least depend on my experience. My father did go to university and my mother even did not go to high school to get education. But my family still happy. After I come to America, my mom begin to learn English. I think it is a good thig.

Reality TV: Surprising Throwback to The Past(Lingli Huang)
In these recent years, relaity TV is more ans more popular. In the aticle "Reality TV: Surprising Throwback to The Past", the author mentions Lisa Shannon in Cupid who wants to choose her husband through the reality TV show. The situation is surprising similar witn in 19 centry.
In 19 centry, marrige has been decided in the same way with the TV show. "there's something familiar about the fortune hunters, the status seekers, the thwarted loves, the meddling friends, the public displays, the comic manners, and the sharp competitiveness---all find their counterpart in Jane Austen and Edith Wharton." "Only now, three-minutes get-to-know-you tryouts in a TV studio substitute for three-minute waltzes at a ball". The stiuation is in the same way.
The 19 centry ethos shows "A woman who is not married by her late 20s is dommed to be an Old Maid." That is why Lisa wants to go to the TV show, and the "she has put herself in the hands of others, trusting taht they will choose the right match." Lisa said "I've been looking for Mr. Right and I've just not been able to find him, based on my track road, I obviously need help." Yes, everyone will make mistake, so they need help. Lisa and he Mr. Right who selected for her continued to date in the year following Cupid's conclusion. Maybe it is a good result.

Under the Sign of Mickey Mouse & Co.(Lingli Huang)
With the development of technology and economy, the communication betweent different countries and cultuers is much easier than before. On the other hand, we can say thye world become "smaller". It is a "global village". In a country we can find not only one cultuer there. Mickey Mouse and coke have become the symbol of America culture. America culture has a strong infectivity. It is easy to find in many other countries such as Hollywood, coke, fast food, Disneyland and so on. It fuses with the local culture well.
America and its culture is complicated. It is difficult to say the world is Americanied. Because America is a emigratory country. America culture is based on and mixed with many different cultures. In America we can find there are exsist many cultures no matter it was there before or it just appeal. Hollywood is an important part of America culture, it appeals to many countries, many people love it. But it is easy to find Chinese or the other countries' elements there. Such Jackie Chan, Chinese Kongfu. America fast food is famous in the world. Almost every country has American fast food such as McDonald's. But we can also find many Chinese resturant, Japanese resturant in America. So cultures begin to affect each others.

Why America Has to Be Fat(Lingli Huang)
The history of America is short, but the speed of their economic development is so fast. And with the fast development , there appear a side effect of economic expansion—fat.
It looks like fat has become an important problem of America. Most of Americans are overweight, such as the writter. The obsity and the economy situation affect each other. The development of economic and technology make people exercise than before. They do not need do so much and still can get food. The change of women's right make them cook less and less. And the economic also need the Americans be fat. The fat Americans is good for the development of economy. The fat bring out many new products.
Because of the development of economy and technology, people's life is more easier. They do not need to work or move so much to finish their jobs. People paid a lot of monry for the unhealthy food, and they always gain a lot of calories but they seldom use ot. Their weight gain fast, just like the article said "on the calories-expended side of the fat economy, economists have noted the change in the worke place have caused us to burn fewer calories."
The fat also develop the economy, and the economy need them be fat. Diet medical, gym, unhealthy food, these products have a bid market.
People's fat and fat economy effect each other and become a bad circle. Amd won't fade anytime soon.

On My Road (Lingli Huang)
Actually I did not read the article, but through the other students' words, I got some ideas. Maybe my idea is not so connect with the real opinion of this article.
It seems that the writer went to visit his friend by bue. He did not see him at last, but this trip was still worthy. He knew more about the situation and knew more about America on that time, 1964.
Through the long trip, he connected with many people, and went through many places. I believe many things in this tip were totally new for him. By communicated with the others, he learned many new things and also he can know more about himself, the feedback from the others. It was a noce resule.
On this time, based on the understanding of this article when I did not read it. I feel I want to travel now. I hope it will help me understand USA and even myself.
