"The food your husband feeds you doesn't come for free"

It's a saying in Afghanistan. The reason why i choose this quote is to illustrate the people of the world about the issues of women in the world. Men in Afghanistan think that women are the second-class citizens and are there to take care for them. They don't let them go to school or to work and men actually think they have a right under the Koran to beat their wives. Moreover, women get engaged at the age of 13 and get married when they are 16. They can't study further once they are done with their school. When i heard about this situation of women in Afghanistan, i got cold blooded. I was feeling bad for them. I have seen this kind of situation in India too. There is a state called "Rajasthan" in India. It's a tourist place and it is famous for their beautiful palaces. I knew a friend who belonged to that place. I was shocked when i he told me about his life. He got engaged when he was just 14 and got married when he was 18. His father had already fixed his marriage with that girl when he was just 5 yrs old. After he got married, i went to his home to visit him and when i reahed there i saw that his wife was wearing a long garment covering her head. She got me a glass of water and at that time i asked her how are you? She did not reply me. I felt bad for a moment but when my friend told me that in their religion women are not allowed to talk with anybody unless that person is your family member and if they caught doing that, then there is no place for them in their society. This is strange but true. In my opinion, people should stop doing that and let women see how beautiful world is. They should be given as much rights as men have today. Today, In this 21st Century, women are competing with men and they have shown excellent work just because they had proper education. There are such people like my friend who still follow the old tradition and live life following that old belief . This shows that they are lack of education. Education is the most improtant thing in individual's life. By doing so someone can get more and more knowledge from his/her surroundings and improve him/herself day by day. Today women are also needed for the progress of the country because one can see that they have different way of thinking than men and we can get variety of opinios to deal with any issues. Finally, i would request the people who still follow the old traditon that It is better to get women educated and let them share all those rights that men share. By doing so, we can generate a better generation in the furture and that will lead our country towards progress.

Tradition is hard to remove (leslie)

I am really moved by what you described about your friend and his wife.

Let's put aside the doubt whether they feel happy with their marriage or not, just talk about the way they live. Some people say this kind of traditional marriage is safer than the modern marriage with too much freedom to both husband and wife, since people need a safe marriage and stable family life and it's important to the stability of the society, too.
That's why they draw to a conclusion that it's always better not to give girls too much education, or maybe no education at all, because education only brings them realization of unequality.

To me, it is actually a kind of deception to the girls. If men want to force wives to obey by keeping them ignorant, knowing nothing about unequality, it's deceptive. However, if they know the reality and choose that kind of life by themselves, it's another story.

What will you say if education brings more troubles to marriage and women are no longer satisfied with their status? Do you think your friend's wife will lead the same life if you tell her anything about other women's lives in the world beyond her area?

I would say that there is nothing wrong if women get educated. In my opinion It's good for us only because if our wives are educated, then we can get different opinions from them and deal with problems in different ways rather than getting opinions from another man. We should accept our wife equal to us. In today's world men only need to understand the situation of women. If they think that their wives should not be better than them, then obviously it's gonna create conflicts and sometimes can lead to divorce also.
About my friend's wife, i would say that she already knows other women's lives in the world and even if she has problems regarding her life, she won't speak out about her problems to anybody and if she do so that can create problem in her family and she doesn't want that to happen, so she will just follow the same life.
