The first thing I realized when I came to NY with my dad in the end of August was the accessibility to food, were ever you turned there was some kind of food to get.
At that moment I also realized that people being fat in this country wasn’t that strange, the accessibility to food everywhere provides the chance to grab some food when ever they want, no matter if they are hungry or not.
The only time I’ve seen any kind of food that seems to be a bit healthier is when I've been to restaurants that serves seafood and fish, or at some restaurant that is greatly influenced by the European or Asian kitchen.

Memory...

There is lots of snow on the ground.

Trees, houses, benches…everything is frozen.

A man, who puts his hand into his long coat with muffler around his neck, kicks the snow, but his shoe fly away instead of snow.

He jumps to get his shoe, but he falls into snow.

A girl, who also wears long coat with muffler, she is laughing and pointing at him. Then, she throws snow ball at him. Even, tree throws snowball at him.

It looks more than what she threw.

They are running around the white field and sliding on the field and making snow angels to send them to heaven.

There is a giant tree in front of field, which seems to remember these two people’s memory. They create letters on that giant tree with snow,

“I will see you again next time.”

I consider that foods are the best illustrations to understand the country's culture. Because foods are necessary for people and these reflect of what people take into account in the country. For instance, Japanese foods are dished up beautifully in order to make it looks delicious. It means that they make a point of appearance as well as the tastes. On the other hand, I think that American foods represent American individualism, diversity, and flexibility. I chose a hambueger to write this essay and show these American culture's aspects because it is not shared, and has alot of tastes .

My View of American Food

What represents American food is its size and amount. The size and amount of food is so large that I felt I was having a dreamwhen I saw it for the first time. What makes me more surprosing is Americans eat this kind of food every day. As a matter of fact, obesity should be a major problem.In Japan, trying to find the people regarded as overweight here is very hard (exclude sumo wrestlers).Being overweight means there is a strong possibility of paying enormous medical expences in the future.It's not recommended to make medical workers happy only for this reason.I wonder why Americans don't make the size and quantity of food smaller.

I decided to study abroad, when I was in 9th grade. I went to Toronto at the end of june 2003. I felt something but i don't really realize what that was. I think that feeling came from the fact that I came to Toronto and live and study all by myself. I think I got use to everything very quickly. I made a lot of friends, and I had fun to live there, therefore I could learn english easily. I took ESL(English As the Second Language) program. I think it was very helpful, but not because they taught me 'english'. It was helpful, because program encourage me to have more and more friends who speak english originally. Every experience that I got from the life during studying abroad gave me a lot different and good lessons.

When I just came to this country for vacations so many years ago my first thoght was to try the typical food .My husband's family who resided here a long time, with excitement brought us to Mc Donald, Burger King, KFC, White Castle!
We loved the french fries and hot sandwchs with mayonesse and melting american cheese in it that we were eating constanly.We were doing tourism every day of our stay , and only we have time for eating fast food at lunch time. At night when returning at home we sat at the family table, tasting what my mother in law were cooked for us, peruvian food!
I was doing shoping, I got fabrics,that is my first passion,shoes, clothes, chocolates,cheese cake in powder to bring to south america, but as the days goes by and we did not try yet an american restaurant I insist in going in some one, for my big surprise that nigth we went to a Italian place! What happens! I recall them, I want to go to a different place, "American ".
They said to me "we are sorry" this is American food! the food of all around the world.

The taste of Japanese

The home of sushi is Japan. Similary, the mome of pasta and pizza is Italy, the home of Chinese food is China, of course. Many of my Japanese friends go to foreign countries to eat their original foods. For example, one of my friend went to Korea to eat grilled beef.　However, this friend said to me that he liked the grilled beef which he eat in Japan better. I often hear the similar story. I guess the Korean food we eat in Japan is different from original one. Eventually, it may be the best for Japanese to eat any foods in Japan because they are made for the taste of Japanese.

In 2001, Lopez released her second album, J.Lo. The album went straight to the top of the Billboard chart. At the same time, her movie The Wedding Planner opened. She has been calling a great entertainer since 2001. After then she starred in the This Is Me ... Then, Maid in Manhattan, Gigli, Jersey Girl, Shall We Dance, An Unfinished Life.
She has been starting her business since 2001. In 2001, she started her own line of clothing, called J.LO. Next year, she introduced her own perfume. She became a successful business person.

I am curious about the world where I live.
Everyone has his own viewpoint to the world and that's why it make our world such a diversity.

It seems interesting to me now.
Algorithms is just taking effort to make enumerating more efficient in the premise that we can always enumerate. It is a discrete world. It is somewhat deterministic always.

While as we all know, the characteristic of communication is that there's uncertainty. Otherwise we don't bother to transfer the information. What we are fighting for is the uncertainty brought in by noise. It is somewhat random always.
And stochastic systems is talking about this.

We can not tell from which view that observes the world is smarter and that's why there're so many subjects and fields.

I do not have a clear idea about what I am talking about. I can just feel the difference and connection between what i have leaned and I know what connects them is just the real world we live in.

And for this reason, I think the world is full of fun.

JIEYU HU Home Is In My Heart

When I was a child, my mother told me that wherever you went, you would never forget your country. Besides your family, what you miss most must be the food at home. I never think what my mom said becomes the real thing.After I arrived in America. I find I love this city and the people here. It's an active place with so many good persons. They are so enthusiasstic that I even feel as if I come to the paradise.But one month has passed. I begin to get tired of the food here. And even if the campus is so nice, I start to miss my hometown. I miss my family,my friends in China.I call them,telling them I love them.But I will study harder in NYC.Because I know it's uneasy to be here. So I will try my best to finish my study here.

Do you like snow?

I live in Daegu which is located in the south of Korea. It is also a metropolitan city in Korea. When summer season, Daegu is very hot. However, when winter season, it is very cold.

The interesting point is...
Daegu has four clear seasons, but people who live in Daegu can not see snow falls because it is surrounded by mountains on four sides. Snow clouds may not come over the mountain because of that reason. So, when I saw snow falls in the States, I thought it was very wonderful.

But now, I like only a heavy snowing.
If snow falls too heavy, I didn't go to school, so I like it! :D

today i realized again that doing chores at home seemed to be so hard, doing household chores all day long.
In the morning, I prepared breakfast and washed dishes. Upon finishing the chores in the kitchen, I cleaned up the house. I had lots of laundry to do. I picked up the washable clothes and sorted the laundry by separating dark colors from light. Then I did the laundry in the washing machine. When I wanted to sit and relax. It was lunch time. I had bread for lunch.(because it doesn't need to dish-washing)In the evening, I prepare dinner. I washed rice and made Kimchi soup. When I finished the dinner. I do the dishes.
I don't like chores. I thought house chores are the hardest in the world.

I want to talk about some puzzled from my writing.
The first thing, I don't know how to write it by American thought, I am not American, and also my basic education is not American. Facing things, I really don't know how American people think about it. So during my writing, almost time, I write it by my own thought which have been a habbit from my old education. How can I write it by American thought?
The second thing, many times, I found the work I have written is not like my thought before. I don't know why I can't write it like my thought.
The third thing, if I write my essay or modify my essay like what the book tought us, I will find I can't get enough page, because some wonderfu decorations are seen like insignificant. How to make my essay more wonderful?

Today, I want to talk about american food's features.For first, America food is including various food that came from various country. America is one of the biggest country and also there are various people and numerous foods that came from various countries. I chose Chicken Noodle Soup for this essay.
This American food is popular in America as a home remedy.
Home remedy is food or custom which is not proved scientifically to cure cold, but it is inherited from generation to generation traditionally in the family or in the country because it is said to be effective against cold. The image of all American food I have had before was very bad for our health and beauty, but my image toward American food became a bit better by knowing culture of American home remedy.
About one year ago, one hip-hop song and one dance　style were getting very popular in America especially around New York. Jaheon, Koo: Why do people eat popcorn in movie theater?

I was very anxious about the reason. why don't most of people eat other food like cookies in theater? So I searched for reason in internet. Why do people eat popcorn and coke in movie theater? If you chew food and drink like popcorn and coke in movie theater, you focus your attention on movie. Also, popcorn isn't bad smell and make small sound when people eat that. popcorn is satly and Coca-Cola did ad better than other companies. That's why people drink coke.

As for American food and culture, I have thought why American were more likely to gain weight. Needless to say, the plausible reason is that Amrican food is greasy and high-caloric and large in quantity. Im my opinion, in addition the foregoing, most sweets such as muffins, doughnuts, cupcakes..etc include a lot of suger are cheaper than other foods, so American people are easy to have them. I think that is one of the causes of obesity.

Ji Hwan: BLT? What is it?

My story is not about American food and culture.
But I want to tell you something I experienced about american food.
Because this is free writing.
This happening was a shame to me.
Do you know about BLT? I had experienced very shocked happening because of the BLT. One day, I went to SUBWAY to have lunch.It was my first time to go to SUBWAY, so I didn’t know how to order food. Not only that, but my English skill was not good enough to explain something I want to eat. I just wanted to eat bacon & cheese sandwich. So I ordered bacon first. And saleswoman said, “Do you want BLT?”. I didn’t understand that meaning. I just guessed that it means name of bacon, so I just said yes. She started to prepare my sandwich except cheese. So I said, “I also want American cheese.”. Then she started to get angry and said “You said you want BLT, didn’t you?”. She was loudly complaining and people around me were looking at my face. I couldn’t hang my head for shame, and I just left the store. After I came back home, I searched the meaning of BLT. Its meaning was bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. After that happening, I often order BLT whenever I go to SUBWAY and it became my favorite American food.

At first, their origin was not in the America, however, they changed features to fit to the America with a flexible and variable temper. Various toppings and flavors tell the temper. I think American food is not originally from America. America was made of different counfrieas which had different cultures and foods. therefore American culture have been made of fusion of differnt cultures and change to match American style. Hamburger is originally from Germany and Mongolia. Hamburger changed in orde to match American style;American workers had to save time for eating lunch because they had a little break time, therefore hamburger changed in orde that they could eat it by one hand. American food was not born perfectlly in America. Although foods are originally from other countries, foods which fused and changed to match American style are American foods.

I think Hamburger is a typical American food.
Its word came form Germany, but hamburger that consists of beef some vegetable and bread is born in the United States. Also, hamburger became popular in the United States after McDonald's was opened.
Moreover, hamburger is the symbol that expresses that Japan became Americanized since the second World War. In fact, when hamburger came to Japan and became popular in Japan is 1950, after the second World War.
Furthermore, hamburger is appropriate to express the American recent society which face with social problem, obesity. Hamburger seems to the reason why American people become obese. Hamburger is the easiest way to eat for american people even though it is unhealthy. Also, if people order hamburger, they can get the french fries and soda. It is called combo. Also, most hamburger shops have super size. Even if only hamburger is high calories and unhealthy, combo and super size make American more unhealthy. In this way, hamburger may well be called American food because it is necessary to express the American society and culture.
Therefore, I think hamburger should be called an American food.

Many American started to be concerned with nutrition in their diet. Surely, a lot more Americans keep simple, convenient and oily food. American food trends are dividing in two parts. ; nutritious, expensive and slow or taste, cheap and fast.

America has diverse people and there exists various kind of food. However, we generally think that American food can be classified as simple and fast food such as Hamburger and pizza. It is true in a respect, that most Americans usually enjoy them even though the origin is from different places. American's life is too busy, fast-pacede and not good in their budget, so they need food that is faster and cheaper but has much more calories.


There is the other trend of America. They concern not only what they eat but also how they eat.
They want more fresh food, so they look for locally produced foods can have more of an environmental impact than consuming mass produced (and far traveling) food from the supermarket.
Besides, they spend more money to buy organic foods because they think safer to eat than other traditional farming foods.
Moreover, these people enjoy trying healthiest foods of world. They can readily approach to a variety of foods because there coexists healthy foods from various countries here.
