What's writing? (Yilei.zhou)

What's writing? just writing something use pen in English? or just type it? what ever, i dont like it. Because, it diffcult for us, English is not our first tone. So why do I need write it in English. Whatever I hate it. I like speaking much more than writing. But, in here, we need it, whatever acdamic use or teacher's rules, we must use it. By the way, we need consider spelling, grammar, even acdamic word. it's too diffcult for us. in this semester i did 4 essays, but the highest grade is B+, it means not bad, but I dont thing so, if i change to speaking, the grade will be higher.

English is a long story, the first time I heard English was in middle school, because we dont have English class in primary school. so count the year, i have already learn English for more than 10 years. why my English still so poor. Because I didnt work hard.

I have been here for 2 years, I thing my English skill have already move to higer step. but I still hate writing. the reason i hate it, because i dont use it in daily life, are you writing something to someone for communication? no we speaking.

this is writing, i hate it.

I hate writing, but I'm not afraid of it (Phuong Nguyen)

Writing is a really tough work. I have been always hated and afraid of writing since I know how to write. I have begun writing in English since I was in my first year in high school. However, it was not until the last year in high school when preparing for my TOEFL test that I took it serious. Until now, I have had two years of experience writing in English. From those experiences, I have got my own definition for writing.

First of all, writing is a good manner to express yourself. Through writing, you can express your ideas, opinions on a specific topic. Writing is especially useful when you are not very good at speaking or you don't have enough time to express yourself to others. In academic fields, writing is considered the main channel that you can use to express yourself to your professors, through emails, projects... When making a project, you cannot just talk about it, you need to make a plan and write everything down. In addition, writing often takes time, so you can look over everything more carefully than when speaking. Hence, you can express yourself more exactly and more efficiently.

Second, writing is a way to gain knowledge from the world. Writing requires more than skills; you need knowledge of different fields in life. Depending on topics of your writing, required knowledge and experiences vary. They can be about science, literature, law, society or more specific such as women’s right, racial differentiation… To write a good essay or paper, you need to have a lot of knowledge in the field, which can be attained through research. During your writing process, you need to think about your topic a lot. Therefore, you may realize many things that you cannot when just reading and researching. Then, you may want to do more researches and learn more. That’s how writing helps you gain knowledge.

Finally, writing helps you know a language better. Everybody meets more or less difficulties writing in a language other than their mother tongue. Therefore, you need to look words up in a dictionary. Sometimes, when I wanted to translate my idea from Vietnamese into English, some words and phrases just came up to my mind. They expressed my ideas exclusively and I have no idea that I have ever known about them. I think that they are what I got from reading stories, articles or watching movies before. But then I don’t have chance to speak them out so I don’t know that they exist in my head. When I write, they pop out, letting me know that I know them.

Once again, I still hate writing, especially when the topic is not what I’m fond of. But I’m not afraid of it anymore. It is because writing is based on skills and knowledge, which I believe that I can do well. Writing, now, seems much easier for me.

what is writing? (yuting huang)

What is writing?

What is writing? In my opinion, writing is write down, what you are think and what you are interesting about, in the eng2f and eng1f class, we always write the paper follow the topic, I found the U.S. professors like torture of students use papers, and the professor from Chinese, like torture students use exam. In my way, I still feel a little examination would be easy. Because the test can be cheating. However, the paper can not. Every time English teacher arranged a writing assignment, I would wonder, why we shouled use English to write this article. If I can write this assignment in chinese, then more wonderful than use english. Written in Chinese, I feel I can write very well, but in English I wrote bad. Because many words, I know how to express in Chinese. But in English I do not know how to said it. For example, I always like writing in reference to an old peopel saying in the words, verse and phrase, these words should be translated into English is very difficult. I can only give these in the article cited. Then someone said, we can use the famous foreigners say in their article, this for me is difficult, too. Because the English book I know noly a little. So do not say that references may have heard of hearing. And I also know that we are studying in the USA, not in China. So writing in the United States is very important. Some professors's final examination may be is a essay. To be honest, I really do not like writing, even my dance courses this semester requires writing. I'm almost crazy. I really do not know the relationship between dance and writing. However, I heard about that the mathematics major does not require student writing, I am thinking about to transfer to mathematics major? I thing, maybe this major more easy for me graduation!

What is writing? (Jee Yun Choi)

Writing is one of lots of ways to express what I want to say. I think it is not only different style from conversation but also sometimes more meaningful way to announce our feeling to people. The reason is that we can think more than saying through brainstorming and outline. Additionally, sometimes writing is more effective to express out intention. We recognized that thorough trying some kind of essay: persuasive essay, descriptive essay. Writing can acquire more information and credit than saying.
As everyone knows, we all are international students in ENG 2F class. Each person should be good at writing in their first language. However, it is certain that we usually get in trouble because of English as second language for us. That is why there are English composition class for us. Through Eng 2F class in this semester, I learn some helpful things for my college life.
The English 2f course of Prof. Leslie Bai was not too easy, but pretty salutary for me in that I could learn about exact MLA style for college essay, and practice writing enough with Bai’s good advices. Actually, we have been required various things for homework and it was really helpful to improve my reading and writing skills. It is true that I felt annoying to read books and to write journals at the every time, but now I appreciate about that to Professor Bai due to my writing skill improved. She was always kind to answer my questions. Of course, I am pretty sure that she was little bit strict to evaluate the essay, but thanks to this, I could concentrate more on my essay. I also got interests about writing more. It became kind of motivation for me in English class.
My strengths as a writer are that I can always create novel ideas for the essay and I have strong views as well. That’s why my essay is different to other’s one, so it was used to be evaluated well in this point. I also can analyze the detail of text well with various evidences. Actually, my essay was not specific at the first time, but I become changed after Bai’s advice in my essay. The weaknesses of my essay are always grammar errors. I believed my grammar is kind of great before, but I usually got a penalty in this part. I become improved about my grammar in this semester, but I need more to study in American university.
The “research paper” was very impressed for me in this course. It was hardest one, but I learn many things. I have written various writing so far, but it is totally different form from the other one. Actually, I tried research paper of Sociology class last semester for the first time. Fortunately, I received pretty good grade although I did not learn enough about this kind of essay. However, it was very difficult and I spent a lot of time to figure out why I was writing that since I did not have any background knowledge for that. Therefore, learning about research paper in this semester was really helpful for me. We spent ample time to think about a topic and to search source for our essay. It was hard time for us, but I improved my writing skills and learned about one of writing style for college essay. It was also great time to find my weakness for essay out. I am not sure about my grade for this, but I satisfied about my effort. I had a good time with my class mates and Professor Bai in this semester. The semester is going to end. I will do my best until last day of this semester.

What is Writing ? (Anthimos Michael)

Writing is a way to communicate with each other. When you write, you put your ideas together more carefully than speaking. Because when you speak the ideas in your head is sometimes scrabbled and confusing to express. In contrast when you write, you can focus on what you are trying to say and provide a better answer to the question that you are asked. For me I find writing to be the best way to express my feelings and ideas. From high school when I started to write some small English essays and now in college where I write bigger essays; I found that, the difficulty level change was immerse. I was shocked when I got my first ENG 1F essay corrected, and saw that I had many problems with punctuation and structure. Things that in high school were never corrected by my teachers and therefore I didn’t learn them. I felt a kind of anger for my high school teachers of not correcting my mistakes. I tried to improve my writing to a more academic level. I know I have improved my skills but I know I still have a long way to go.

Through the courses that I take, sometimes when a Professor asks a question and I might know the answer, I don’t answer the question because am afraid of spelling mistakes. However when the question is asked on a paper, I find it easier to answer the question through writing. Writing makes me feel confident about myself. Sometimes international students have to translate English to their first language and vice versa. This makes them look as slow minded and therefore be misjudged. But through writing you can prove them wrong.

Writing is very efficient way to communicate. A very popular quote said by Edward Bulwer underlines the significance of writing. “The pen is mightier than the sword.” The quote meaning is that written material is sometimes more influential than fighting.

Writing is the way to express your opinions about every subject. It’s also a more formal way to communicate with each other if written correctly. For instance, a telephone call to my Professor would be less informal than writing a good e-mail. Also I can’t remember how many times I had to express my feelings through writing as if some things are meant to be expressed through writing.

Sometimes reading other people writings is an awesome experience. Trying to find out how they think and what they mean on every word, it’s a thrill! Because sometimes one word can mean so many things.

I hope that I will continue to write next semester, so I can improve more my writing skills. Writing for me is the way to show other people how I think. Through my experience through ENG1F and ENG2F I developed the necessary skills to write better essays for future projects. Skills like researching databases, citation and not to plagiarize are only some of them. Hopefully i will increase my skills, and provide better essays in the future. Also writing is my way to prove to professors my true strengths about the courses.

what is writing? (Mengjing Yang)

Writing and speaking are completely different. Although, both of them are important of language.
The words we used in daily life for communicating with each other which is quiet simple. However it is easy, I still could not express myself sometimes. I know what is my feeling, but I just could not speak out with right words. Writing is worse for me. Because I need care more about vocabularies and grammar. In order to write a good article requires many conditions, such as the center, smooth beautiful sentence or story, etc... As an international student, English is not my mother tongue. I could easily write down a 1000 Chinese free writing, but I only could do a small job on English. At first, it is hard for me to write article with English. Because it is different from Chinese article. I always think how to write it in Chinese way, and then usually, I would like to transfer to English. It is wrong. I could not write a true English article, so that, some people confused and could not understand. Another point is vocabularies. In many situation, I don’t know which word should I use. Even I know that, but I don’t how to use it in right way. This is a huge problem around international student. When I was writhing a Chinese writing, I can use some of China's color phrases, and many times, English is not a way to translate these wonderful phrases. So I was writing when English composition, usually because not think of right words to stop writing. I began afraid to write. But during this class. I learnt a lot. I began to write something in English, and found it became easy. Writing is a good way to Expresses feelings. It is also a kind of practice of English, I hope my English can get better and better.

What's writing?(Haiou Chu)

What’s writing? I want to know the real answer. However, I think everyone has the different opinions for what the writing is. First of all, I like writing. When I was a little girl, I want to be a writer. But, I found not everyone can understand your article. Even some people they judge your articles before they read your articles. This is the biggest insult and satire to the people who are writing seriously.
However, I still like writing. I like write a lot of story on my blog. And I like read many books for improve my writing skills or feel other people’s life. In my opinion, writing is a good tool for people to describe their views or minds.
Like my writing classes in US college. I learnt English 1F and English 2F. Actually, I am not a good student at these two classes. Because I do not like academic articles. Almost of articles are boring. Therefore every time when teacher asked us to read some articles, I want to die. Not surprisingly, these articles are long and tiring.
Compared with English 1F, I think English 2F is better. At least, the topic of writing is not boring at every time. The most impressed article topic is last semester’s essay. The teacher asked us talked about any advertising from magazine for five pages essay. I worked hard for the essay. I choose a fragrance’s advertising. The advertising contains only a model and their new perfume. I have tried my thoughts to write the five page’s essay. The teacher gave me a” D “as my final essay’s point.
From then on, I have not written an article seriously. However, both of my writing teacher never give me point lower than D. Therefore, I found give other’s essay score is a difficult thing to give a sensible score. Maybe you do not like the essay just for the beginning does not attract you. So, I like free writing. It is a good way to know the writer’s mind. Otherwise, it is always more interesting.
However, I need to improve my writing skills. Because I am a college student now. My major needs me to write more academic writings, not free writings. In the future, I will persuade myself to read more academic articles.
I would like to expand the content of my writing.

what is writing? YU CHEN

What is writing?
In my opinion, writing is based on language. In our own country, we use our own language to narrate story. Some of those stories are full of imaginations while some are full of touching memories. Wiring is something like those stories which beat our heart deeply. I think it’s the magic of writing.
From English 1F and 2F, I learn lots of things about writing, especially formal writing. I have written in English before I came to America, but those things are immature and informal. After learning the relatively professional English writing classes, I do learn more about writing. When I first writing essay, I know how to work on works cited. For the first time, I know the important of plagiarism. When I first writing research paper, I know how to research the date and material. It’s really long for me, the research paper. However, as I said before, once you really enjoying writing, you will find that the limited pages are not enough, you have too much to express though writing. It’s called inspiration. Once you have this kind of inspiration, the words will be like water, flowing from your pen. When I first write short story, I couldn’t helping saying that it’s my favorite part of all English writing classes. It’s not boring like research paper. There is lots of space for you to bring all your inspiration to play. Writing is this kind of thing I wrote before. Story can touch people, research paper is very useful for education and science and essay is good for students to express their feeling. Writing is like the magic which can make a bridge between two minds.

What is writing? (Jaeman, Myung)

What is writing?

Writing is effective method which express our thinking. When I was a high-school, I had to write a lot of logical writing. Because to enter high-ranking, famous university, logical writing was so important for me. So I learned how to write the writing, how to arrange paragraph, and something connected with writing skills. I was good at writing. Meanwhile, I came to America to study. What I most problems, when I write essay, is I felt a pressure on my chest. Because I couldn’t write what I try to saying. I got a lot of stress and these things made me crazy. What I was unfair in getting grade essay was language problems like grammar, Korean style expression. Professors said to me, ‘your essay contents are good and ideas are nice. But you have trouble about languages.’ Because of language problems, I didn’t get good grade than I expected. My country does not teach English writing and speaking. My country’s English education policy is focusing on reading and listening. So I didn’t get any speaking class or writing class from the school. I think that is not problems not only my county but also most of Asian countries. That’s why I am poor at writing. Although I was under the a lot of stress since I arrived America, I was realized I should learn English more and more. Whenever I wrote essay, I always had troubles and then I make a firm resolution. And I have goal, that is, becoming a native speaker and writing. For me, writing was fight to myself, and will become my motivation.

What is writing ?(YunZhen Li)

From the literal side, writing is just write words on the paper to explian something. But for me, writing is not just simple. Although many people just seem wriring as some kinds of task which have to do, I still consist that I'm enjoy it and try to do better on it all the time.
Actually, the reserach paper is so boring that it is too hard for me to look this paper as enjoy. But after I finished it and get an grade, I awared I am happy in my heart. Because I did it, without anyother's help, I did it by myself. It also an exercise to improve my wirting ability. It makes me know more and deeper that wiring is not always just say what I want to say as will. Sometimes, wirting need to be strict and credible.
As the answer , I believe writing is more like another way to explain people's view. Of course, speaking is more easy than wrrting, you needn't to write a lot on the paper, you needn't to do a lot of research, what you actually do is just move your mouth and talking. But people still tend to believe things on paper than just on mouth. Because the biggest difference between talking and writing is the time used on thinking. When you are talking, you think a second and say, but when you are writing, you have to think twice to make sure the words and paragraphs is suitable.
Moreover, people can explain someting by mouth, but can't explain some philosophical things clear. Talking can explain a person's idea, but writing can expain a person's soul.

What Is Writing(Lingli Huang)

What Is Writing
I am not a good narrator speaker. Just like the other members in my family, I am not a good speaker. I am not good at express my feelings, my opinions when I talk to the others. Sometimes, when I want to say some touched words, the words come out in my mind, I know what I want to say, but I just cannot speak it out. The words stop in my mouth my lips. All of the members in my family have that problem. I still remember the first time when I leave China, leave my parents. My parents and sister came to sent me to America in the airport. We seldom talked to each other. They just let me take care of myself and keep safe. The image and words looked not like parents sent their daughter to a country which far away from them and for a long time. But when I arrived in America, and then I called my father, he told me my mom cried in the airport just like a baby when I said goodbye and entered the waiting room. She missed me, but she cannot say it when she faced me.
Compared with community and speak, writing is much easier for me to express my feelings. Writing is a good way for me to express the opinion and feelings which is difficult express through talk. When I write, I feel comfortable and clam in my heart.
We start writing when we are in our own country both in our own language and English. Many international student think write in English is much harder the in their own language, and the most hard problem is that they will think that sentence in their own language and then transfer it to English. Before I came here, I also had that problem. In China, our teacher taught us to write in the same model, and most of the writing were just simple translate. For example, in the exam or exercise, they will give you around ten sentences in Chinese and then let you write a story with these Chinese sentences. So we seldom have chance to express our own opinion. And we became used to translate little by little. When I just start to write here, I still didn’t throw the habit of “translate”. During ESL program, when I began to write, I always think what I should write in Chinese, and then translate them to English. So during that time I still did not feel what is writing. But with the more chance of write and practice, I begin to write in English thought. I throw the step of Chinese translate. And I begin to enjoy the writing. When I write an essay, I just write down what comes out in my mind, maybe there are some grammar mistakes, but I still keep writing, and when I finished the whole essay, I begin to work out the mistakes. These words in my essay come out directly in English and they are the trustiest opinion of mine.
In my mind, writing is the best way to express our feelings.

Don't Just Stand There ( Fan Zhen)

Cole’s process analysis has a persuasive purpose. In the last paragraph, the writer says, “In learning to speak up, everyone will develop a different style and a slightly different message to get across, experts agree.” Cole believes it is better to speak up against prejudice rather than to keep silent or ignore it. Cole thought learning to speak up would be hard to do better that these two messages suggested by teenagers at city kids. “Everyone on the face of the earth has the same intestines.” Another added, “Cross over the bridge. There’s a lot of love on the streets.”

She showed us many examples. Such as when the offending remark is made in the presence of others—at a staff meeting, for example—it can be even more distressing than an insult made privately. She sketches a lot of situation for us and grabs us into certain situation to feel what people feel under that situation.

And I think Cole hopes the quotations will have on her readers. She quotes many people’s point of views to support her opinion. These examples all work well. Cole is trying to persuade us in different ways by providing multiple examples. I agree with her opinion, everyone has the same intestine, which refers to people are actually the same creature. However, there is difference. People differentiate themselves from each other on the basis of material base. Material is something could prove everyone’s social status. If we want to prove ourselves, we must have the equal strength to prove.

What’s the writing? (Jin Liu)

Writing is to use our language to express our logic to let others resonate. Since we came to the United States, as an international student, we have to use English to writing. At first, this is very difficult to us. Chinese writing and English writing are different. Steps are different, requirements are different. This allows us to have to learn another writing mode.
Writing is a very rigorous work; firstly, the author must have their own views and positions. These steps are use to proved writer’s points. And English writing have works cited and references. This is more convenient for readers to access relevant information. Above this these describes are my objective views on the writing. My subjective view on writing is.
Writing for me is like a record, those compositions are recorded my life, they recorded my growth. It all depends on the text of my mind and my vocabulary to express my thoughts. Actually, this is my personal tag. Because everyone's writing is not the same. Through writing, I can express the pain, I can express happiness, and I can express gratitude, all the feelings can be expressed in words. But writing takes time and experience, the lack of any point will make the article boring. I think the highlight of my article is missing, because I have temper of not enough.
Writing is fun for me and it also bored. I had to use all my means to try to improve my articles; this is a very painful process to me. The reason is sometimes writing really need inspiration. But the inspiration is everywhere in our life, perhaps I need to read more books, get more experience, so as to make my logic clear. My weakness is a lack clear logic. This semester, in class, I learned how to modify the composition so I changed a lot, it makes my writing more rigorous. Step by step to improve myself, this is indeed a very interesting thing. This semester by course of writing I learned a lot of things. Such as the United States had a special event occurred in the past, the history of the United States. There is something about women's education. These are only learned through writing. I need to write the article through the background of these events. So it also helped the expansion of my knowledge.

Such a niceweather to study our final!! (Woo Hyun Kim)

Hi my classmates. Weather is getting hot and our final is comming. During almost 3months we learned a lot of things. And time to show what we learned in our classes. Actually, this semester was so though to me in that I had a lot of personal things that I had to get over.
I think this happened to some of my classamtes too. HAHA. By the way, hopely you guys will do well on the final. Let's do it and make it!!!!!
Compare the advantages of marrying at a young age to marrying at an older age. (KOSTANDINA BARDHI)

To get married is a difficult decision that you have to take in a period of you life. Some people agree that marrying at a young age has more advantages but on the other hand some are against this fact. in my opinion you have more advantages if you choose to get married at an older age. However it is people’s right to choose when it is the proper age to get married. To get married at an older ages is better for many reasons.
Firstly you are more prepared for life while being married, having a husband and why not having children. So if you choose to get married you should be complete as a person. I mean that you should have passed an education that prepares you to encounter the difficulties of life. Not only this but you should have also a work to have a safe life. Also, you are not going to suffer for not having money because if you do a Master’s at University you can find work everywhere and anytime. So you don’t have to think about bills. In addition your life is easier because at this age you have already built up all those things which are necessary to face your life.
Secondly with the passing of the years you get more mature and you have the ability to decide which is the best thing to do and more common to you. So at this age you can make a good decision, you can have fewer possibilities to make mistakes to choose your future husband. For example divorces are increasing a lot today and age is the only reason that can cause this.
Finally I would definitely marry somebody when I am going to be 28 or 29 years old. I want to enjoy life alone and to be complete in my carrier before I get married. therefore think twice before you get married because a quick marriage can affect not only you but also your children.
Childhood is the happiest time of a person’s life. Do you agree or disagree? (KOSTANDINA BARDHI)

Our life is divided into three parts: childhood, adolescence and the part when we become adult. There exist people who agree that childhood is the best time of a person’s life but on the other hand there exist people who are against this fact. If someone had asked me this question I would definitely say childhood is the most beautiful part of my life. I don’t mean that today I am not happy but those times can’t be compared with today’s life. Childhood is the happiest time of a person’s life for many reasons.
Firstly the birth of every child is a triumph for every family. From this moment on all their eyes are on the new born. The best thing about a child is that he is always happy in his world enclosed with toys. So for him having an issue is something rare because his world is like Disneyland. A child is never concerned about his future but he is satisfied with his life. It is a parent’s duty to raise them well. So they don’t have to think about bills, work etc.
Secondly in the period of childhood your parents take care of you. The most important thing is food because through this a child can grow up.
For example when I was a child I didn’t like to eat too much. And my parents were upset about my health. So they always fed me even in the street because of the distraction or playing with my friends. To me this time will stay forever in my mind.
Finally I would really say that childhood was the most beautiful, special and wonderful part of my life.
Some people prefer to spend their time outdoors .Other people prefer to spend their leisure time indoors. Would you prefer to be outside or to be inside for your leisure activities? (KOSTANDINA BARDHI)

Nowadays people have different preferences where and how to spend their free time. some agree that it is good to stay at home with your family but on the other hand there exist people who are against this .they are concerned that if they stay indoors they will become more stressed out .Probably for them it is good to go out and enjoy life. For me is depends on the situation, because if I’m very tired I don’t like to go out but if I m in a good humor I want to go out and why not get together with my friends. it is important to be outside to spend your leisure time for many reasons .
The main reason that people want to go out to spend their free time is when they finish work or when they are stressed .Under these circumstances it is better to go out because your brain after this is relaxed and you don’t have to think about numbers ,issues, computer or something else. Aside from this, you can get together with your friends joke ,laugh with them or meet new people . After all, you are not only relaxed but also you are ready for the next day.
Secondly there exist people who want to be inside the house to spending their leisure time. This is a thing that depends on peoples’ character because for them it is better to stay at home with their family and discuss problems .Likewise, they can watch TV like a movie instead of going out. Unquestionably when they are after a hard day at work these kind of people prefer to spend their time indoors because they want to feel the warmth of their parent , husband or children.
In conclusion, it is the people’s right to choose where to spend their leisure time but everyone has a life to live, so it is good to make an effort to enjoy this life .
What is like to you to stay all day reading .do you agree or disagree?(KOSANDINA BARDHI)

Is people right to choose if they want to stay all day reading or not. But many of them agree with this fact or are against this. In my opinion stay reading is something worth for my culture to be improved but all day isn’t worth for my brain. Before a student or someone else decides to spend all his day reading he or she should consider the benefits and bad things that can cause this habit.
Firstly reading is a good habit that everyone should do but not to overdo because this can cause damage to your brain. Because it doesn’t need only to learn but also to be enter taint. So you should read least 6 hour per day. In this way your brain is able to memorize all the things that you have read. It is like a strategy, more better you study more productive you are going to be.
Secondly there exist people who are frozen in studying but devoting only in learning they often forget what they need .a person doesn’t mean only to study but also his character is important. For example in my secondary school i have a boy in my class who studies a lot but if we ask him for lessons he was ready to answer but for general things he wasn’t able to speak. Since I knew him I haven’t seen him to be in society with no one. He always stays alone in his own word. Therefore you have to be able to manage your time on studying and enjoin life in the same time
Finally, if you consider all the thing mention above I am sure that you will think about your studying strategy. Studying it doesn’t mean only reading but also to hear others opinion and why not reflecting .

What is writing? --Shengming Jin

For an International student, the most serious problem I need to face is language problem. I usually can understand what professor talk about in the lecture, but for the assignment, it’s always bothering me.
‘ I even don’t know how to start the essay at beginning. What kind of style? What the format looks like for any different types of class. When I face a difficult topic essay, I usually want to find some same essay online first. Quote and Copy is what I usually did on my essay.
This semester, though the different classes and different types of essay, I start to can write a real essay without of any “help” from the internet. The English course is really helpful. It’s like the function, though this function I can start to write any types of essay.
The most important is outline and the any types of Format. The outline can make my idea and what I want to talk cleaner and will not let me over cross my point. I start to write essay with outline. When I have some idea and start to build up my outline. Then I start to write with outline. It’s better than if i only have some idea and start to write it. I will not lose my idea and what I want to write beginning when I own an outline. So I can easy write the first draft, I can let my essay get better and better again and again. The start is most difficult. And now I can write a essay not like that hard. Therefore, the assignments and essays it’s not hard to me.
I didn’t really care the quote before. Like last semester, i just wirte the website address below when I quote from somewhere online. Because of this, my essay always is defined as copy right essay. Although, the MLA format I still can did perfectly. But I can face any different classes in the future when I need to write a essay.
And most important thing is I start to like write an essay. It’s not I like the literature or English. Because I know how my writing skill is poor. And I must improve my English skill. The best way is write lots of essays and improve my writing skill.

What is a writing? (Woo Hyun Kim)

Before I write about "What is a writing", I have to be honest that I didn't do a lot of things in the English 2F class. Actually, last semester was meaningful to me in that I could learn basic of writing skills from English 1F class.
Professor said to us, 2F class continues strategies introduced in 1F class, and students learn to read more closely and think critically by situating texts in broader symbolic, historic, and socio-cultural contexts. So I had to concentrate on this part and make it. By the way, I think that the most important thing that I have to focus on is "Writing" during whole school life.
One day, one of my American friend asked me one question. Woo! "What is your main problems of writing essay?". When I got that question, I just answered "I'm having a hard time to fix grammer wrong and make a well organized outline". And my friend said to me "Those are main problems to every international students, because they just are learning Enlgish in the America as a seocond launguage. And time goes by, if you feel get used of them, then you will have another problems haha". At that time I didn't get what he said to me.

When I had a problem to deal with my research paper, I realized that I got another problems as my friend said. Grammer wrong, making a well organized were not main problems at all at that time. My another problem was "What is a writing". Literally, my problem was how can I start to write my essay. During 6months, I never try to write another extra essays, and to read another papers which are related with my essay. Through this problem, I felt two things about writing.

First of all, writing requires a lot of practices. Although for just assignments we can make it without them, for whole school life these are really helpful in that we can get used to deal with a lot of papers.

Secondly, writing is a teacher that make us realize what is the Enlgish. If I can make a proverb I want to make this sentence. "One time of writing is more precious than ten times of speaking to learn English". This really makes sense. For example, every international students has a experience that they can't write some words on the paper which are really common words on ordinary conversations at least one time. This phenomenon seems like writing is a important process in that remind our words. And this is connected with our Enlglish level. If we write paper more and more, it will be helpful to speak English and know what is the English at the same time.

What is writing(Chao Zhou)

I think it is a difficult task for everyone to write a essay because we do not like writing essay and have no practice in our high school education which is a large loss to the students in china. Our English writing is follow the same pattern, that is at frist we use our own language to talk about one topic, and then translat sentence by sentence. This style of writing tend to be blunt, there is no feeling. Second problem for international students is the vocabulary, even we know lots of new words, but we don’t know how to use it, in different scene, we must use differents words, like the dialog for our short essay, the younger generation and old generation is not the same style of speaking, so we must use different words.
How to write a good essay? In my mind, first the idea of the essay must interesting, we need to do more comparing and contrasting in various ways than we have already done, and to cite good quotations that back up our points. Make sure that we keep track of the sources of our quotations. We should mark each quotation in the body of our finished essay with a number, and match it with its source, given at the end of the essay on a separate sheet of paper. Write the sources in the proper way. Second, give clear examples and good quotes. Pretend we are a lawyer as we make ourpoints in your essay. Try to make our points so well that they can't be denied. Prove them.
It has been said that as long as we remember our language even if we lost our country, we still can rebuild our country. Language is a national symbol. Writing is a way to learn a language, we need to know how to say before you write. Writing is the most important stage of language learning. We can not utilize a second language to write a real good essay, beacuse we have no feelings in English, English is only a tool for us, ,maybe if you sentence is full of feelings, when you write it in Chinese, but when you change it to English, and you loss your feeling. We want to say that as a Chinese student, we are proud of our logical thinking, China is emphasis on basic education, at least in math, therefore, we would have more structured writing. It’s seems that a good writing should have a good order. Such as, if you want to write a topic which is want you to discuss the education, you can first discuss the impact of education on personal, and then the impact for a family, at last talk about the education is real improtand for a country.
Final, I want to say that write your own stuff is the best writing, we can learn from others, but we can’t just copy.

Don't just stand there - Ryuhei Yoshida

(1) I think her essay has a purpose but I strongly think her essay doesn't have persuasive contents because once I read her essay I couldn't understand what is her main point. I guess this is because she would use many quotes in her essay and this makes her essay hard to understand. I don't think she needs such a lot of quotes in it.

(2) the first example, which she mentioned in first paragraph in the essay, this lets reader easy to enter her essay. These familiar experience is good to attract readers. This explains to reader, there're many prejudice around the world even though it's in the US and also near you.

(3) She wants us to think many people think something about this topic. These quotes support her opinion. Also, quotes make her essay reliable to other. She quotes many famous person, like professor or chair of some organizetion. The reader relieve there people's words.

Black men and public space - Ryuhei Yoshida

(1)"The youngest black man - a broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket - seemed menacingly"

(2)I think he is a kind guy, but because of his looks, he seems scary. He'S like a hedgehog.
He wants to talk with another people but his looks doesn't allow to do that. A hedgehog wants to nestle each other to get a warm , however, if he nestle each other, he hurts others.

(3)Sometime, Japanese killed by foreigner. In many case, which is killed by black guy. This makes our mind scare to another unknown black guys.

Don’t just Stand There (Shota Takemura)

Cole’s process analysis has a primarily informative because the author gives us a lot of examples about it. So, it is easy to understand it.
What she wants to say is on the last paragraph. It says, “In learning to speak up, everyone will develop a different style and slightly different message to get across, experts agree.” (35) And, she gives us 2 messages. They show that we are the same as human being. Then, there are some gaps between us. But, if we get the bridge between them, we can understand with each other.
So, we need to respect each other with understanding our differences about races, cultures, and religions. If it is possible, that will be fantastic. And, I was just curious about the workers in winnick. Everyone has complaints against them. Then, like the article we read, we can send our message to the manager in winnick. That’s fanny. But, telling our message to others is good to understand with each other.

Black Men and Public Space (Shota Takemura)

As professor said before reading this article, she explained the difference between the comfortable space of Asian and that of Westerners. I got an interest about it. For Asian, they bow when they meet. Therefore, they need the farther space than Westerners. On the other hand, Westerners hug with each other when they meet.
But, on this article, the different case is raised. According to the first example, the black guy is with long hair, on the military jacket. He used to be graduate student. He scared the white woman.
I think author is good guy. He is black and looks to be dangerous. However, I think he is good from this article. And, I think that threat is vague, invisible thing based on the stereotype for a long time. For example, the discrimination for the race is the threat.

My comment about this semester. (Jee Yun Choi)

I think this semester is pretty tough and busy for all of us. We just finished our research paper, but final is coming now. Some students might start their final test. I also have a test for my major course tomorrow. However, I want to say that we all did a great job for not only Eng class but also all of courses in this semester. However, we just have about 2weeks before summer break. It should be pretty long, but fun. We are ready to enjoy our break. Let's do our best before Summer Vacation!

"Say Yes" (Jee Yun Choi)

A husband was known as a considerate husband to his wife because he usually helped his wife through drying dishes like housework. However, it was not hus real thinking. Of course, he wanted to help his wife, but he used to do that to show how considerate he was.
Basically, a husband and his wife havwe had different opinion about gettung married between white people and black people. A wife put a point to the love, and a husband thiught the culture backgroung is important to make a relationship. He thought that white and black people cannot understand each other because of different culture, but a wife thought they even can get married if they really love each other.
Because of this gap of opinions, they made a argument, and they even fought each other. After fighting, the writer states, "when he was done the kitchen looked new, the way it looked when they were first shown the house. It implies the result after fighting. Finally, he changed his mind and he said to his wife that he wants to get married although she would be black person.
At last part, he room went dark and that atmosphere is like first night of them. Actually, his opinion about the relationship between the black and white is still same, but he really loved his wife. Therefore, he tried to change his mind. So, the mood of room was changed like first time they met. It was already implied before as I said above. He felt his wife is like stranger. It is positive meaning, because they can love each other like first time through this effort and experience although both still have a same opinion about the relationship between the black and white. It was possible because they really love each other, so they cam recover from this trouble.

Ryuhei Yoshida

1- "The youngest black man - a broad six feet two inches with a bread and billowing hair, both hands shored into the pockets of a balky military jacket - seemed menacingly."

2- I think he is a kind guy, but because of his looks, he seems scary. He's like a hedgehog. He wants to talk another person but his looks doesn't allow to do that. A hedgehog wants to nestle each other, however, if he nestle each other he hurts others. His appearance makes him hedgehog. We'd better not judge people from their appearance but, unfortunately, our stereotype change our mind to others.

3- Sometime, Japanese are killed by foreigner in Japan. In some cases, which are killed by black guy. This makes our mind scare to another unknown black guy.

Black men and public space ( Cicely Li)

"The youngish black man-a broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, both hands showed into the pockets of a bulky military jacket-seemed menacingly chase."
The author is a very nice black people. He is fear of many things. But because of his appearance, he is often though as a thief or a killer or a robber. But he is also afraid of people attacking him first for self-defense. Actually, he didn't do any thing wrong even he never wants to be a robber of a killer. But, he is tall, black, with beard and looks decadent. People think him as a dangerous without consideration.
After reading this article, I begin to think should we judge a person from his or her appearance? Are all of black people dangerous? Are all of white people safe? When we are walking alone in dark, we are a little bit scared. Certainly, we should know how to protect ourselves. Maybe, we can have a sense of safeguard to the black people, but, we don't need to act out. If the people is as nice as the author, he will get hurt. We should believe not all black people are dangerous, some of them are even nicer than some of the white people.

Black Men and Public Space (jing jia zhen)

1.In the articla,Mr.Staples is a youngish black man——a board six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, when he walks both his hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky millitary jacket——seemed menacingly close.

2. But, in fact, Mr.Staples was not as dangerous as he looks like. Opposite, he is a uproght young man and graduated from famous univresty--Chicago Universty. As a black guy he was not only got good education but also easy going even a little bit timid, most of time, when people treated hime like a bad guy or he got discrimination, he always accepted. So I think he deserves to be sympathetic and being treated in impartial.

3.I think the real threat is discrimination. people cannot treat each other sincerely, if we always think someone is dangouers just depens on what he or she looks like can we feel the real friendships or if we treat others in bad way how they will reflect to us? I think discrimination will lead to the relationship between each other in a bad circle which make our life have many barriers and without trust.

Black man and public space( Yichen Wang)

A broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket --seemed menacingly close.
Black men are always be thought as dangerous guys. People think black men rob, fight, freakout, murder. The writer, as a Africa Amercian, he always feels fear about something. He can not feel the happiness like other color.
There are really heevy racism and misunderstand about black men. Other groups do not dare or unwill to make friends or communicate with black. It cannot help to ease the situation.

The black Man...(Man Chan)

1." the youngish black man- a broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bluk military jacket."
2. He used to be a graduate student, he is a writter now. He has a good eduction. He is just a nomal person in the society.
3. I think in 1970s, that things were normal because black man just get black their civil right. That is very hard for other poeple change their stereotyre idea that black people are not a good person. They didn't go to school, they will kill someone and so on. I think it needs time to change the concept of black man. That is misunderstanding.

Black Men and Public Space (Yuehua Jin)

According the the article the black man was descript a youngish man-a board six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket-seemed menacingly close." He said:"The fearsomeness mistakenly attributes to me in public places often has a perilous flavor."
But actually he was scarcely noticeable against a backdrop of gang warfare, street knifings, and murders. He grew up one of the good boys, had only perhaps a half-dozen fistfights. He is a shy boy.
I think the real "threat" is racism, because he is a black man, so everybody thinks he always do bad things, even though he never do it.we have to change the mind, we can't evaluate a person according to their color, and we should be objective to access a person.

Public Space and Black Man (Duekhyun Kim)

The black guy is very tall and he has a beard and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket. He was twenty-two years old, a graduate student newly arrived at the University of Chicago.
He feel surprised, embarrassed, he could feel fear and happiness as the other people. He is same to the other people, such as white and yellow. One difference is skin color. People think black guy make them fearful so people tend to avoid the black guy. However, people mistake about the black guy. Actually, he is kind and coward.
I think this situation is racism. Because of skin color, people mistake black people as criminals. People have to change idea about racism. All poeple are equal. It is right conception about racism.

The black man in the U.S (Dun Gong)

In a dark night, the black man in casual clothes went on the road.He found a woman looked back at him with fear. Then, he picked up her pace of walking, but after seconds, she disappeared from his sight. He felt much frighten than others, but after he came down, he found that is public space.
The black man is not a bad guy; some people think the most robbers are caused by the black. So, they are guard against the black. The realization is come from some bad examples in the black, but not all of them are the same.
People need to communicate with each other. If you without communicate with a stranger, you never know who is he and what kind of person he is.

Public Space & Black Man (Sunkyung Yoo)

1. Pick out the description to this black man.
He is a very tall guy as 6 feet 2 inches with a beard and billowing hair. In other words, he has long hair. In addition, he wears a military jacket, both hands shoved into the pockets of his clothes.

2. What kinds of guy the author is
In my opinion, he is good guy who has well education. Because he tries to understand other people, he shows that he respects others. However, he is a very sensitive personality and easy to hurt. When he feel that people are afraid of him, he should try to do something to change his mind instead of frustration.

3. I think he has misunderstanding others. Most people, especially women have fear that somebody will hurt her. However, he just thinks from the viewpoint of racism. Instead of thinking racism, he had better think in another way, such as more positive ways.

Be opposed to racial discrimination (Yang Li)

The author, Brent Staples is telling us about his several personal episodes. He was "twenty-two years old, a graduate student newly arrived at the University of Chicago". Moreover, he was a "youngish black man-- a broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair". He was often misunderstood that he is a mugger because of his appearance who seemed menacing and others' racial prejudice. Staples soon percieve "unnerving gulf lay between nighttime pedestrians--particularly women--and him". As a matter of fact, he is a timid boy that"scarcely able to take a knife to a raw chicken" and a shy guy. Typically, "women are particularly vulnerable to street violence, and young black males are drastically overrepresented among the perpetrators of that violence". However, the truth is when people afraid of him, he also has the feeling of fear.People frequently have the incorrect judgment of strangers by their appearance, such as their colors. some even define black men as dangerous people before they have enough communication. The potential problem is the racial discrimination. people pay more attention on other's complexion, but not virtue of inside. It is a disrespect performance of racism.

"Black Men and Public Space" (Fan,Zhen)

The author has worked on numerous newspapers and is now an Editiorial Board member of The New York Times. Brent Staples reveals both causes and effects of people's reacting with fear to a black man. He was twenty-two years old, a graduate student newly arrived at the University of Chicago. Many people, whatever balck, white, male or female made him feel like an accomplice in tyranny. They were afraid of him, because his skin color, his dressed or his big body. However, in his inside, he also was afraid of those people. In fact, They fear each other.

The integration of races in the U.S. The people who has different color, different occupations, and different cultural backgrounds are gathered in the same city. Everyone's ideas are different. Everyone is too busy to do many things when they are in a high stress situation. People fear being deceived. Or worse, mutual mistrust is now rising. Everyone has learned to indemnify oneself against harm. Maybe frustration results in the huge distrust to every person. They have to avoid negative people, places, things and habits. No one wants to stir up trouble for oneself. Everyone has his own life. Thus, in the busy city, people keep their distance from each other.

Anyway, as the proverb says," One should never intend to do harm to others, but should always guard against the harm others might do to him." In my opinion, it is important to be based on relation of mutual understanding and trust between people.

Black Men & Public Space (Hoang Dinh)

Once in a while, everyone will have to consider to buy something to defense themselves, like a pepper spray. It probably happens when they have to work late and walk home everyday, on a deserted street in the middle of the night. What will usually threaten them? Most answers would be “the youngish black man - a broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pockets of a bulky military jacket, which usually seemed menacingly close”. That is exactly what Brent Staples described himself in his autobiography, “Black Men and Public Space”. Being an ordinary graduate student newly arrived at the University of Chicago, he has been mistaking as a threat anywhere he goes. People keep treating and threatening him as a criminal, who he isn’t. Talking about black people, everyone will immediately think about the image of “a mugger, a rapist, or even worse”(Staples). Ironically, it is a wrong concept that people has kept in mind for a long time. Being careful is necessary, but will they ever reconsider, that the frightening looking man just across the street, is maybe just a normal person, who can be highly educated and completely harmless? Just because one guy is black doesn’t mean he is a criminal. People is working against racism everyday, doing big campaigns, but they don’t really know, one small and simple thought would make a big change in all aspects of life.

Hoang Dinh,

"Black Men and Public Space" (Xing.Pan)

The youngish black man, a broad six feet two inches with a bread and billowing hair both hands shoved into the pockets of bulky military jacket—seemd menacingly close. He is a black man and He is clear and he has a good education and graduated from university,he worked as a journalist in Chicago.
In my opinion, Racial discrimination is one of the most controversial concerns in the world especially in the United States. But the discrimination exists today and will continue to do so but we can only look at those prejudice individuals as ignorant people who judge others by the color of their skin. There is no equal right in America, but anybody didn't want to change. So I think it's a terrible problem. I think every people is equal whatever their color of skin.

"Black men and public space" (Yuhui. li)

"The guy is a six feet two inches high with a beard and billowing hair both hands shoved into pockets of a bulky military jecket"
He is a black man and he away from his hometown fist time.He has a good education and graduated from university. He knows people fear of him because his image is not good especially, he is a black man.
In my opinion , I think he is a formal person but people fear 0f him and discriminate for him because he is a black man .People see him from his face or clothes.Although he has a bad appearance but he is not a bad person.

Feminine characteristics, such as submissiveness, were embodied in dress as well as in the literary heroines of the day. Dress codes encouraged women to conform to the pattern of the exquisite slave. The laced corset served to condition women to patterns of submission and acceptance of pain. The wearing of corsets took on moral qualities by exemplifying discipline and propriety.

Objectives. This study examined the prevalence and consequences of foot binding in older Chinese women. Methods. Women older than 70 years in Beijing, China, were assessed for bound feet, falls, functional status, and bone density. Results. Thirty-eight percent of women aged 80 years and older and 18% of women aged 70 through 79 years had bound-foot deformities. Women with bound feet were more likely to fall, less able to squat, and less able to stand up from a chair without assistance than women with normal feet. They also had 14.3% less functional reach (a test of balance) and 5.1% lower hip bone density. Conclusions. Foot binding has caused substantial disability that is still evident in many elderly Chinese women. (Am J Public Health. 1997; 87: 1677-1679)

The first generation of Western feminism: Western feminism originated in the French bourgeois revolution and the Enlightenment after the second half of the 19th century appeared the first generation, and industrial revolution in Europe simultaneously, represented by the United Kingdom HARRIET TYLER MILL. The initial demands of women to education and legislation should be equal, economic equality with men.
The second generation of Western feminism: early 20th century from the 20th century 60's, the world experienced two world wars, they will complete opposition to women and men: men are the enemy, a woman is a friend; men are violent, women are the gentle ; men are persecuted, women are the victims of persecution; men are oppressors, women are oppressed; men are warmongers, women are pacifists; men are winners, women are losers; man who is an individual-centrism , a woman who is relationship oriented; man confined to genitals on pleasure, the pleasure of women is reflected in all aspects of the body; men focus only on the results, women would pay attention to the process ... ... and so on.

Research on women- or gender-and-development issues requires a thorough understanding of both development and feminist theoretical frameworks. Theoretical frameworks fundamentally shape research approaches and are therefore an essential underpinning for feminist research. Theory is not wisdom; it is a set of tools. Theory should be criticized and redefined in specific social contexts. Most feminist and development theories have their roots in the West and need to be tested and redefined in other contexts. However, one needs a basic theoretical knowledge before undertaking the important process of critique and debate.
