I don't want to marry someone someday

As I saw the topic, the lyrics just turned out in my mind “ you change your mind like a girl changes clothes”. “you can change clothes but not husband” that is pathetic. I can’t imagine let my parents chose my husband who should live with me in our whole life(just I think marriage should be a life long). I don’t know that guy who I should marry or even take a conversation with him. That seems my parents’ marriage not mine if I were an Afgan. I don’t want to marry someone someday.
Firtly as my age, it is too young to marry in my opinion. But it seems the Afgan don't agree with me. I am just starting to learn how to live by myself, I am just starting to learn how to deal with my friendship, I am just starting to form my own personality. I have not done with all these stuffs, I should enjoy my own life without someone who wants to control or who want to share with me. I don't need that. I really enjoy the time that I am sharing with myself. I can think clearly, I can do something that I never think before. The world is wonderful, I am just a baby to it. Maybe i will change my mind after three years or five years. But that is my attitude to marriage.
Secondly, I can change my clothes as I wish, and also I can change my husband if I will. If the clothes which I try isn’t fit for me, I should change it. It is just same as changing husband. If we married but we just find out we are not fit for each other. I can’t find out any reason why I should stay in the unsuitable shoes. So I don't want to marry. That is a nuisance.
That culture makes them can’t go out of the wall which is to stop them to realize women have the same right of marriage. I am really lucky I can make my own decision.

I've read the article by Joseph Berger "Choosing clothes, not husbands" and i think it is not my business to judge afganistan people by the way they are living. Every country and culture have something different and probably if you will look at it from your side it will look uncomfortable, or just some habits look disgusting, but if those people live for so long with those habits and lifestyle, it means for them it's fine. We dont need all world to live like americans or just like russian because someone think it is the only right way of living. I think if Afganistan woman really dont like their lives they will do something about it, and whole world will know about their problems. But so far i think their are ok with what they have, and if those families in the article will live in Afganistan not in America i think for them it will whole alot easier to live with their cultural habits, because all people around live the same way. But when you are away it is natural to see that people live different and you start to think "well why i cant live like that?" Interesting Title (Thanh Tran-Terry)

The title is really interesting to me before I read this article because I think it has some deep meanings when author chose this title. After I finish reading the article, I understand the true meaning of its. It is about Afghan’s traditional culture. In that old culture, women can’t choose their husband by themselves like they choose clothes. It depends on their parents to choose for them. Although, in this article, these Afghan are living in a very modern country, America, they keep their traditional culture. They have been living in Flushing New York for many years, I can’t believe that the old culture still happens. Moreover, women don’t their right to go to school. They have to be at home with housework. That’s the reason for their low education. They can’t struggle for their freedom because traditional culture is something attached deep in their mind. Afghan women are at home, beaten by their husbands, no education, I wonder how life of human being could be. It is truly miserable. I have heard the same story about old tradition in my country. They are some tribes that women have no choice. Women can get married at very early age like thirteen years old. The story and the article really touch my feeling. I feel sympathy with these women. I want that lives will change for them in the future. I remember when I was young, thirteen years old, my father told me “when you get married, I will choose a wife for you”. I did not care what he told me at that time but when I have been grown up, I realized that it will be a big problem for me if he does that. I came and talked to him that I want to choose my wife by myself. Thank god, he has changed his mind and accepted it.

The Achievement of Desire (Young Ho Yoon)

“The Achievement Desire” written by Richard Rodriguez is a story of a child who found himself through education. And it is a story self-identity and culture.
The story tells about how his early childhood all the way up to adulthood. And how he spent much of his childhood reading books, which was somewhat despised by his parents, because they believed he was reading to get out of chores, or to get out of going outside to play. The story also shows the differences between Richards home life and school. In the story Richard is called the “scholarship boy” because he was so smart and he earned a scholarship to further his education. It also shows the relationship that Richard shared with his parents at because they still had there accents and still practiced there cultural ways, and Richard kind of drifted away because he lost his accent and he could read and speak good English.
The boy in the story spent all his free time reading and studying. He spent his time trying to figure out what his teachers wanted from him.
I feel the story is extremely good, it shows that if we spend time with continuous challenge, trying and working hard, than anybody can earn a scholarship and accomplish success.
Overall, writer wants to tell us, the starting point of all achievement is desire. And to accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act.

I find I am always studying. When I was in kindergarten, I was told how to be a good student in school. I have to study hard, do a lot exercises, and listen to teachers. If I get a high grade, teacher and parents will happy. If not, that’s mean I have to study harder and do more exercises. I have already studied for 16 years. I totally know that how to be a good student in Chinese school. I am always studying everyday, including the weekend. But that is really useful for students? I think Chinese education is not perfect. It pays too attention to exams and grades. Students need to study and know some more useful thing which can help them successful in their jobs. Not only teach students too many principle knowledge, because no person is interested in your principle knowledge which you control. Everybody only knows and pay attention to result of your work. At every graduation they were behind the stunning flash of the camera when I turned to look at the crowd.
That’s always happen when people got a outstanding brother or sister but unfortunately himself is not good enough, however, most of family would like to make a compare between the outstanding one with the general one. They do that in order to encourage the general one to get more improvement. But the thing followed is pressure, incessant pressure. Especially in China, parents hope their children can have good future, so they must let their children study hard, the only thing they care about is what the score of children’s course. Score is the most important thing in Chinese education, the student’s good or bad was merely depends on exam. Its looks like fair but actually it’s not a impartial stipulate. So many teenagers are waste their time and talent on “compulsory education”. Even though they already been educated, but finally how many things that we can learn from those “compulsory education”? After reading this article I feel so miss my family, I think too much about come here is a good or bad decided?
When I was a child, my parents told me, you must study hard then go abroad to study get the most advanced education. So I make “go abroad” is my final goal. I am a very obedient child. I am sturdy hard as my parents step by step through my primary, middle and high school. Then go abroad successfully.
Before I come here, I didn’t thought about I will to separate with my parents and my friends to life and study alone. I never realized that this is a difficult situation.
When I was come here maybe during two months I suddenly react I already haven’t seen my parents for a long time and I feel sad that I can’t go back immediately to see them. At that time I know so far the distance between us, it isn’t just the distance also including can’t communicate with each other face to face to exchange the thought and some problems. After I read this article, I can realize that studying is the one of important parts in my life.
Different ages doing different things, but in my ages, I think that learning knowledge is the most important thing for us. A good student means that you must be study very hard, you must have a glasses on you and people will see you with a book any time and anywhere. well, it had been what I though a good student needs to be before, but not anymore. Good students need to take their glasses off and partys well. Success people are not only good at knowledges, also need to be good at sociality. Study hard when you are studying then play hard when you are off of studies is what I think a good student needs to be now. If you can deal well with study time and party time, plan a right time to study then party isn't it will be good for you? Reading books help you to improve your knowledge then get successful with you high education, but not means that you have to stay in home or library doing the reading all the time. You have to have sociality with others, it could let you learn more things that you would never learned from books. For myself, if I planed to hang out with friends on the weekend I would finished my homework before I hang out then I can have more fun with friends, so I would study hard before hang out. A lot of people get success without high education, and that doesnt mean you can get success without any education. So education is a little important. When we need help from our parents, we will seek for help. Sometimes we think they should help us, that goes without saying. But after they helped us, we left parents again.

Studying is not the only thing you learn from the school.

There is a stereotype in Asian education system. In Asia, students just want to get high grade in the test, so most students do not know what they learn from the test. They just memorize what they can; besides, they follow parents’ hope to go to high school and get into college. However, this phenomenon affects nowadays some students do not know anything expect for studying. What I noticed in nowadays society is some parents would tell their children “only you have to care about is studying, rest of things such as doing house work or socializing, is not as important as your school work.” When the first time I heard this, I was so shocked. In my opinion, I totally cannot agree this point of view. Because until we finish the school, we need to face the real side of society. The most important is the social relationship. There is an old saying goes” By parents at home，depend on the friend outside.” Therefore, we need to start to build self’s social relationship from school in order to adapting in workplace as soon as possible. Just like the author mentioned about getting good grades or scholarship at school is not worth to be proud, however, what you can realize in school such as social relationship more is more worthy or useful than others.

I believe education can bring us many benefits. However, we cannot just read the textbook, take the class or the exam; we should put the study into practice. It’s my second year to spend my spring festival here. Spring is the only time of the year for the whole family gathered, and the time that real happiness approached. However, for me, the spring festival is a time to suffer during the next 4 years. Drown myself in the tide of nostalgia, the life here is inevitable.
Yesterday, I talked with my elementary school classmate, who has been here for 10 years. He used 3 words to describe his life here: 10 shit years. In order to accept the education here, we sacrificed a lot. We lost the time which we should spend with our family and friend, the time we should enjoy with our girlfriend. Since I was sensible, in my memory, my life was full of education. In china, children learn lots of things earlier, like dance, piano and math. Most of the children are not interested in those things, but their parents want they can have some speciality than others. I didn’t learn art, but I learnt math and abacus too much. When I was only 10 years old, I studied more than 12 hours a day, got up 6 o’clock, and went to bed later than 12 o’clock. I did this for what? I ask myself, maybe for the high score or praise of teachers. After primary school, I went to middle school, the courses got more and more, so I didn’t have too much time to play with my friends, stay with my family. I began to hate study. But I had to study because of my father. He asked me study hard all the time; therefore I could find a good job in the future. I obeyed him during those 6 years. But now, I’m looking back, I thought I missed too much. Now I came to USA for the better education, this time, maybe I lost more. I lost touch with my two best friends little by little, the words say to my parents get less and less. I become lonely. For the education and good job, I lost too much I think. In my opinion, the process of effort is the most important. Maybe I can’t find a good job without better education. But I can try my best to be better. We should enjoy that process instead of having a job and stopping moving. Now, I think the only thing I can do is don’t waste too much time and try to get them back which things I have lost.

"The achievement desire" written by Rrichard Rodriguez is a story of a man who found himself through education. He studied very hard and he have a good results, he also won a scholarship. Contrast to his education, i have some feeling.

I am already accept more than 12 years of school education in China. Indoctrination-style education has been accompanied by my growth, from elementary school to university are to be so. From an early age the parents and teachers already told me what is right and what is wrong and what is should to do and what is not to do. Children must listen to parents and teachers, then the long run, children will be turned into obedient machines, never thinking by their own. Indoctrination-style education stifled the human personality, is very harmful. It is same like John Holt said in his essay school is bad for children: “We need to get kids out of the school buildings, give them a chance to learn about the world at first hand.”(The Saturday Evening Post in 1969) Should bring children to go into the world then they will have a driving force for self-study.

Chinese students were forced to learn a lot of things from an early age, of which a large part of it is not know why need to learn. Blind study is only in order to get a good score in test and obtain recognition of their parents and teachers, as well as the envy of fellow students. In this way, slowly in the consciousness of students will be format a false sense of studying:” study for examinations”. As the author said in the article, the achievement of desire often makes us alienate from our family as well as education. In fact, it’s inevitable to be successful in life. But, I think we have to try to decrease that kind of loss. My parents, younger brother and I go to the movies and have dinner every weekend. In fact, mom and dad both have jobs, so they are too busy to have time with my brother and me. In addition, my brother stays at school until late night studying for the national college entrance exam as he is in the last year of high school. I also hardly make it home for dinner because I am pressed for time preparing for my future career. Under this circumstance, my family find it hard to have a talk even when somebody has a problem. This naturally has led us to feel more and more distant from each other. As a solution this problem, my father came up with an idea of watching a movie and eating together on weekends. Fortunately, the weekly gathering has worked really well. The subsequent friendly atmosphere enables us to tell concerns in our family comfortably. In the article, I saw the sentence that was” I was not proud of my mother and father. I was embarrassed by their lack of education.” If I were his parents, I would very heartbroken. His parents did not have good education before, and then now they may hope their children that can gain knowledge.

And the author was more focused on education than family. In my case, I love my family and I do not like to study. But mom always tells me the higher education that can help me to find the good job easier in the future. So that is the reason, why I come there. I love my mom; I know she will not to do something to hurt me. She does the decisions that always think which one is good for me. After reading this article, I am very glad that the writer finally realized that he should proud about his parents who own the courage for innovation and work hard to get a better life that provide more advances can keep benefit their children's future life. Actually without his parents willing meeting such challenges and doing an excellent job in their hard-won security, he could not be what he is today. It really take times and efforts for parents to raise a child. While children grow up, they need money for education and all kinds of expenses from their parents. If his parents were not willing to support him advance his education, he might be forced to start working right after high school, just like some of his relatives did. If he can find this in his younger age, he might not feel so strongly about the sense of loosing the connection with his family. People often take what we have for granted and rarely say, “ I appreciate it” or “ thank you” in our daily interaction with our parents. Even though family will always be there for you. As a Chinese student who study abroad, I always think about the advantage of studying abroad, and the disadvantage. I had hesitated for a long time before I went abroad, and finally I made the decision. It was not my parents pushing me to go abroad, and I was still thinking that I could grasp more knowledge studying abroad, and I could learn how to handle things by myself, in other words, I could be more independent. But some students who study abroad may not agree with me. They think they lose a lot of things, for instance they lose friendship with best friends, the time that they could lay back instead of worrying about ten paper-long essays, and even their girlfriends in their countries. To me, I get more than I lose, otherwise I will not choose to go abroad to study. Since I made the decision, I stick to it, and never regret for it. There is a phase said” No pain, no gain”, which is definitely right to me. When you are trying to have something, you lose something. For example, when you spend your time on work, you earn money, but you lose your time, which you can use that time to do other things. In economic course, it is called “opportunity cost”. The author was talking about how education made him succeed; on the other hand, he spent lots of time on studying and he even had no time with his family.
For me, I choose to study abroad and I am forced to separate from my family and my friends at home. I have to adapt to this new environment here. This article is story about author's own experience when he was in childhood. He was hard-working student and he accomplished a lot of things in his school. He got a scholarship several times and put lots of effort on his study. His parents encouraged him to focus on his studying very much as much as they could. However, he held his parents cheap because of lach of education. And he spent too much time to only his study. The more he focused on just his studying, the more he became far from his surrondings, such as his family and his friends. When he came back home, he and his parents mentioned only small, obcious things: his dormitory life, weekend trips he had taken; random events. And also, it was difficult for him to get along with others.
As I read this article, I thought just learning knowledge is not always good in school life. My school life was totally different from his experience. I was not so hard-working student, but I was active and dynamic student in school. I was a member of student council, and a leader of club in my school. From this activities, I got lots of things that I could not have in school lecture. It was great help for me to get along with others. I don't agree with this article because our lives are getting better because of education. However, maybe the author is right about schooling was changing them and separating them from the life they enjoyed before becoming a student because education’s purpose is changing people to adjust the environment. Of course, there has some lacks from our education system. We can’t get anything from schooling and we might get the information that we should get. We study very hardly to get high-level education and then we have more opportunity of success. This is how our word works. No one can judge this because if you go opposite way, you may get nothing and no one will follow you. We have been developing our education for a lot time. It might not be a perfect way that we are educated but this is the way we should follow otherwise this word would become more chaos than now. However, our society’s problem is the children learn less from parents nowadays. Everyone needs to work in order to earn money for the family even women. Parents should accompany their children. After reading the article "The Achievement of Desire", I was deep in meditation. I have to think about what exactly the education brings us? Since we were born, we are always in the status of being educated. In the article, the author mentioned that when he reached the third grade, he became more tactful, careful to keep separate the two very different worlds of his life. From his words, we can tell that education brings him a kind bad habit and a negative attitude towards his families and even the environment surrounded him. What exactly educations bring us? Of course it doesn't bring us some negative impact. If so, why do all the people want to get education?

Probably I am a girl who is totally different from the author. As the age growing, the desire for knowledge and new things becomes stronger and stronger. Just like the author, I am also curious about all the new stuffs. However, from my point of view, his attitude towards getting more and more knowledge is too radically. I appreciate with his desire of achievement. But it seems that he forgot that school is not the only place we can get education. The first "school" we entered is just the family. Our parents give us the first class which we can never get from schools. We can get education from everywhere, but only from schools and those books. I think schools can only provide the method for us to explore the knowledge rather than provide us knowledge.

I am just a girl who are full of curiousity. I want to know why things are always going like this but not like that way. I want to know all the things that I don’t know. I remember when I was just ten years old, I asked my father that why the rabit could not walk but we could. My father told me that because we are human beings. I just thought that I am a human being fortunatlly. When I look back on these days that I spent in school, I feel I am really lucky that there are thousands of children who don't have the chance to go to school to get what they really want to know. Education is great, that I can write in Chinese and English or maybe in more languages in the future. LUCKY ME. I know it is hard to get up early in the morning from the warm bed, I know it is hard to go to school instead of enjoying the games. I wish I could be a superwoman that I could get “A” and enjoy the life as well. My psycholog professor said the more time you spend on learning, the higher your grade should be. So the truth is I just have limited time, it wll never happen that I can do them together. But in some sense I think education is another way to enjoy the life, I know more and I feel rich. I don’t know what I are going to be, but I want to control my own life. The only way that I can do is to study. I have faced the same problem with my family, which was they travelled without me because I had to finish my homework.. The less time I shared with my family makes me feel far from them, I can get their jokes because I didn’t travelled with them.

"He can not afford to admire his parents"- this is the words from Richard Rodrigez "The Achievement of Desire" book. He cannot afford to admire his parents because he thought he is more educated than his parents. I think it is the most stupidest thing i've ever read. How can you ever think that you are clever than anyone, especially your parents? If you think this way, you are already not smart at all. You can have hundreds degrees and tons of scholarships and be very stupid and bad and dishonest as human being at the same time. Education doesnt make you better in all the ways.
Well, my mom doesnt have a good education, sometimes she acts like a child, she doesnt know how to use computer or cell phone, it is difficult for her even send a message or mail,she is afraid of all new technology stuff and she is very shy, but she is the best mom i could have. Even as a child she asked me to do something for her, like for example go and ask the right way to the mall, because she was too shy to do it by herself, and i know she blame herself because of it whole alot, but i go and asked, and i felt very proud of myself cause i helped my mom, not like i am better than she. Another example my grandma, who lived all her life in a village, she didnt go to school, and she cant write and didnt read a book ( cause they were very expensive at that time), but she have an answer on every question i've asked her.
All parents want for their kids to achieve something that they cant get, it could be education or just simple qualities of the character which they dont have, like my mom always told me " dont be so shy like i am". If you became better in something than your parents, be proud of it, and help them, don't humiliated them becouse you can do and they can't.

Sometimes I always ask myself, what do I learn from my studying? Why must I study? Do study really useful? I’m not sure. Sometimes I will hesitate. I have studied for fifteen years. What I get form my study? Actually, I can’t tell. I spend almost two-thirds of my childhood for studying. I listen to my parents that knowledge is powerful, studying can change own life. However, I think it is the mind in their generation. I think many of students have the same felling with me. They use knowledge to change their destiny indeed. Otherwise, we can’t have such a good life. Unfortunately, it has been changed when it turns to our generation. We grow up under their protection. They help us arrange the future. It seems that all the things are naturally. So sometimes we can’t find the significance of studying. Yes, it cannot be denied that studying really riches our connotation and wide our horizons. But they are just theories. We can’t divorce from reality. So what is the real means of study? I think there must be a variety of answers. When we find the real means for each of us, studying is a meaningful thing. Otherwise, we are wasting time. When we graduate from school, we still don’t get anything. since we spend so much time to study, we should make proportional between what we spend and what we get.

Most parents will think that having a good education is the best way for children to learn. However, it is not only things that children need to learn. It is also important to socialise with other students. This article was talking about how author achieve in his own study. The authour was a really hard-working student. He was really serious about his study, always put a lots of effort in order to get good grades. As a result,He missed a lot of things in his childhood. When he grew up, he notices that he was always concentrate on his study and did not socialise with other students. Even though he achieved many things in his study, he did not really have a enjoyable time in school. This made him to become a quite person and alienated from his family. After finished reading this story, i was thinking about my self for a while. My experiece was totally different from him. I was not a good student when i was young, i did not study and always hang out with my friends. So ofcourse, i did not get good grade in my study. However, i experienced a lot of things which i could not learn from school and had a great time with my friends. Sometimes, i regreted that i didnt study hard when i was little, it means that i didnt build stable basic so i need to put much more effort than others in order to following other steps.

Impressions after reading "The Achievement of Desire"

I didn’t achieve the academic success like the author, but I have a similar point with him. I am also lacking of community with my parents.

My parents were busy with their works. When I was 4 years old, I was sent to the next city for kindergarten living in teacher’s home. After kindergarten, I went to another city for primary school again. Afterward, I studied junior school and high school also in another city. Now, I come to the USA, another country to study college. It means I never studied by staying home. I am close to be 20 years old, but I think I lived without my families about 10 years.

What I paid this for? For my study? For my career? Is it worth such a lot I paid? I say no, absolutely no! However, those decisions were not determined by myself. I couldn’t change it and it is too late to be regretful. What I can do now is trying my best to let what I paid not be wasting.

The Achievement of Desire (Thanh Tran-Terry)

The author told the story about his own life. He achieved many things in academy but it also took a lot of things from him. He spent so much time studying and when he grew up he realized he missed something in his childhood. He was serious at reading book he did not care about anything. He looked down on his parents’ low education. It really alienated him from his parents because he thought he was not the same with them. He became quiet person and just focus on studying what he liked, he left home by himself for college. From his story, I realize that nowadays many parents encourage their children to study as much as possible. I do not understand how it could be if a child just know to due with theory and he or she does not know how to apply what they study into the real society. I think about my childhood. My mother often encouraged me to study but never put any pressure on me. I was a good student but I was always to try to feel free and took part in as many activities as I could. It is the truth that education is very important but what we get it in positive way is much more significant. I always try to study because I want to help my mother, I admire her. I never look down on my mother when she speaks English although she has no good pronunciation. Education gives us a lot of things but it also takes many things from us. I hope each student can find the true meaning of studying when they read this article.

Since in elementary school, we were told that we should try our best to help those people who are in trouble almost every day. "To help others is to help ourselves." The teacher always said like that. Although we all know that it is what we so called a kind of moral, it is significant. Just like the young man in the article, when others got into trouble, he immediately made a decision to jump into the water to save others. He was a hero and no wonder he got a better reward.
However, when the similar things happen to us, what will we do? To tell the truth, maybe I will just call the 911 because I cannot swim. Even though I can, probably I will do the same decision. I do not want to take myself into trouble. I know it is a little selfish. But this kind of action is just what many people will take. Before we are ready to help others, we should think that whether we have the ability to help.

From Ragged Dick (Young Ho Yoon)

This story is about a young boy named Richard Hunter, also known as Ragged Dick, as he progresses his childhood. Dick struggles through the hardships of city life and trying to achieve the “American Dream”.
As a child, Dick is nothing more than a poor city boy who is trying to earn money on the streets of New York City. Although he works and struggles to remain an honest, hardworking boy, he is also faced with troubles. Through Dick’s shoe-shining work, he tends to meet lots of people. Each day is another learning experience for Dick. There are many times when Dick’s integrity and honesty are tested, but he never cheats anyone.
As time goes by, Dick eventually meets a boy named Frank, who is of a wealthy family, but is not at all familiar with New York City. Dick makes an intelligent proposal which is he offers to show Frank all around the city, and take him to all the famous places. Frank accepts his proposal and in exchange, his uncle buys a new suit for Dick and helps him clean himself up. This was the real turning point in Richard Hunter’s life because Frank’s family was able to help Dick. They did this by providing shelter and importantly to keep friendship.
From this point, Richard Hunter was no longer on the streets, and was determined to never look back. He was able to get a job, earn more money, and eventually succeed in achieving his dreams.
While reading the article, I really was able to put myself in the story, and live Dick’s life with him. Today, many people’s dream is to achieve success and this formally became known as “The American Dream”. Every person’s perception of success is extremely different and individual, that makes everyone’s dreams different. Maybe there are people who strive for big goals, and maybe there are others who want to take achieving happiness one day at a time.
I think that the word “success” alone can be thought to have a completely different meaning today than it did in the time of story. I think that in today’s world, people tend to set much higher goals and expectations for themselves, whereas, in Ragged Dick.
I think achieving success and happiness, it should be each to our own. When people set more realistic goals, it results in more happiness and comfort in their lifestyle. However, in today’s world, Americans have become so incredibly competitive and successful, that the standards have been significantly raised to the point where personal happiness is no longer good enough. I think that after reading a story like Horatio Alger’s Ragged Dick, we subconsciously make ourselves to realize the important underlying message that he is trying to portray. To me, this message gave me optimistic thinking and no matter how bad our life is. It can always get better if we are honest, hardworking and determined.

In this story, the protagonist whose name is Dick, he is a virtuous people. When he found a child fell into water, he was regardless of danger to save the child immediately. At that time, although there were some passengers also standing forward, they did not do anything. Finally, Dick saved the child successfully, and child’s father wanted to give him ten thousand dollars in order to reward, but Dick did not accept. However, he was a poor man; he needed to work hard everyday. At last, the child’s father gave him a new job. Dick liked this job, so he accepted it in final. He was a virtuous person. He saved child’s life which was not for reward. It started from his instinct. People do anything which cannot always want to reward. If more people like Dick who asks no odds of doing anything, then, then, we will find more sincerity in our world.

After reading Ragged Dick's article, I thought about myself. I am a college student now, my tuition is paid by my parents, and it is a big amount of cost. If I go to work during this economy crisis, I can't afford to go to college by my own effort. Because the employment rate is very high, many people who have more experience than me can't even get a proper job. But chances still exist, after I graduate from college, can I grab the chance? Maybe I can't come across a boy who are drown in water, but chances are still waiting for me. What I should do now is study hard, and get a higher degree, at first it is a advantage for hunting jobs. I concern about myself and at sametime I have confidence that I can do my best. Just like the man in the article, he grabbed the chance, and get a good job.

This story was talking about Dick’s story which is to save a child’s life.
One day, there was a child fell into the river, his father so scared that he could not do anything, he just stayed there and exclaimed in anguish. A few passengers are walk on board at the time and most of them standing forward. At that moment, Dick fell into the river without any thinking; he just did his best to save the child. Finally, Dick became a hero in people’s heart and he also got more chances to earn more money in his life.

Dick is a hero in people's mind, he did not think anything about himself before he jumped into the water and saved the little boy.
During the summer time, many kids lost their life in the water because they never though how danger is river is for them. and somebody also lost his or her life because he or she was trying to save those kids who got trouble in the water. They might know about water and good at swimming, but might be not lucky as Dick. The row-boat came on the time, then saved both of Dick and the little boy. If you are in a place where is difficult to get a row-boat and professional saver around you. Then make sure you would be safe if you are going to save someone else. it might lose two life if you could make sure your-self's safety. Dick is a hero in my mind also, he saved a little boy who doesn't have any relationship with him. He has a warm heart, but I think he shouldn't jump into the water before he knows that the row-boat is coming to him. What if the row-boat didn't get him in the water on time? He would lose his life, and the little boy's family might have to carry a bag about him forever.

When I am writing this blog, most of us may envy some who born with gold spoon. For those people who have a rich family, they may own more opportunities and properties than us. As I read this article, I deeply admire this person whose name is Dick. As we know from the article, he was a poor and did a low-paid job for living. One day, he was preparing to interview, he saw a boy who fell into the river. When the boy’s father was still scramming and looking his children with crying, he jumped into water without thinking anything to rescue the little boy. When the boy’s father got his lovely boy, he wanted to present how appreciate to Dick; however, Dick refused modestly. Dick considered that he is good at swimming, so he has no reason not to rescue this little boy. Nevertheless, in nowadays society, how many people have this same thought like Dick? The answer is not so many, because almost people do not want to do something without getting repaid. Therefore, I got an experience about one of my friends, he did not know to speak in that time, but he needed to go to hospital to do a treatment. In that period of time, I always went to hospital with him or did the therapy, sometimes it took whole day for us. Some people might say why I should help him, he is not my boyfriend or family, but I think that I might go to abroad someday, and I also I can meet some people can help me without asking any repaid! Hence, after reading this article, I feel really warm and let me think about the experience.

This story makes us to think about what people exactly are around us. Dick's character is very positive, hi is really good person and he is not selfish, actually, he is purposeful person.
Dick is not looking for easy ways; perhaps he thinks that the harder way is so great and easy to win. He is seeks new opportunities every day.
Dick is very reliable person and he never fails to help who really need his help. “What goes around comes around”. When you helping people and doing well to the fate of your award for this, as the example that Dick helped a stranger boy just for free, I think that, he is really lucky man and people must to learn this lesson, as a life experience for everyone.

This article tells us a story about a brave boy Dick. Dick is a great ordinary man, but he has a warm heart. One day, Dick saved a little boy who fell into foaming water. He didn’t thought about his behave maybe let himself lose life or bring a good luck for him. He just wants to save a person who fell into water. And then the farther of the boy be saved give Dick a good job which is better than before. This is a great chance for Dick but he didn’t accept it at last. He thought that maybe this job isn’t fit him. It’s should give to anther people who fit more than him.
Maybe Some people think how lucky Dick is, and another people think how stupid Dick is. But I think Dick is brave, honest and very kind. It’s not every people met this situation will have the brave to save the boy include me. And not every people have the kinds of brave to give up the good chance to make them life better. But Dick did it. So I think Dick is so brave. He has their own definition about good life which is everything follow your heart no mater it will bring what things about you. Turning Point.

As Mr. Ragged Dick had a chance which made his life to enter the different world, we also may get a chance for our better life.

Mr. Dick had trained himself to be an expert swimmer for several years, therfore we also need to find some things we want to learn.

Since we are students who came from the other country, we are being minority groups as we live here, United States of America.

The major reason we decided to be here is to study.

The man who is Dick. He was working at accounting room. He earned enough in half a day to pay all his nesessary expenses.Obviously he earns money not a lot but he is satisfied his life.
One day, he was sent by his employer on an errand to Brooklyn. He had to go there an ferry boat.
A young boy fell into a river.His father was freaked out and screming "who will save my child? A thousand ten thouand dollars to anyone who whll save him. Dick jumped in to the river to try to rescue of a young boy and he did not hear it all what his father said.
After Dick rescued young boy, his father gave a new cloths to Dick for saving his son.

One day, Dick found a new job and he saw young boy's father that dick rescued the young boy last time. His name is Mr.Rockwell. He gave a new job to Dick. Dick could earn more than before but he decided to help less his fortunate friend.

This stoy shows me a lot of things that i have to learn. First time when i read this story, i did not understand what Dick is doing. This story shows that People should live like the Dick but, if we live like that, we would not live sucessful life. If you have good opportunities, you have to get it in this sociaty.

The article mentions the boy’s father found that his child fell into the river, and then he could not swim to save his child on the boat. And he loudly to say” who will save my child? And ten thousand dollars to anyone who will save him!” Few passengers just standing forward and did not do anything to help. But on that time, a child jumped into the river to save the little boy. Before, the child’s father said he offered the money that someone could save his child. Dick already was jumping into the river to help the little boy. Dick was not in order to the money; he just wanted to help somebody that he could help. After, the hero got a better job that was the child’s father to give him. At first, he did not think that he could get that kind of chance. Dick was so lucky because he was good at swimming. And besides, he was so brave to help someone that he did not know him.

Dick was a really brave man, he save the little boy without thinking about his own risk, even though they are a lot of people were standing nearby river, was unmoved. I imagined the situation after reading this article. If i were there, I even do not think i can jump into the water to save the little boy. There was an old phase said” Your charity would be rewarded”, which means when you do something good without any purpose, you will get paid in one day. This phase totally appears in the story. Dick was a poor guy and he had to work hard every day, in order to earn three dollars for his living. One day, he saw a boy who fell into a river and no one went to save him. He immediately went into the river without thinking and helped him out. He knew if he didn’t do anything, the boy would be drowned. Later on, his wage got increased and he never thought about it before. Because of his sense of justice and charity, his wage got increased by accident and his live got better and people were proud of him.
The story reminds my experience of doing good things. When I was in elementary school, the teachers always told us to do a good thing or to help someone out every day. Sometimes, when I helped people out, they would reward something back. Most importantly, people are living in the world which people need to help others out. So, people should help each others.

This story is about Dick who was a poor guy and he had to work hard every day for 3 dollars. One day, he saw a boy felt into water, and no one help him. He didn’t think it too much. Then he jumped into the river and save him desperately. Finally, the boy was saved. After that, his salary increased 10 dollars per day from 3 dollars a day. And his life became better. He was so luck. Otherwise, I think this result is inevitable. I always believe that “One good turn deserves another”. You do more good deeds, you will get more help from others, and any other thing you want to do is also easier.

As we read the story of Dick, some people might think he is just so lucky. And he gained more things than he made efforts only by one chance to rescue a boy who were confronted with a crisis and had rich father. But, actually his success was not accidental. Although he helped others without any intent to gain something, that kind of efforts to help others brought an opportunity and a good luck.
My father always says efforts are bound to find luck sooner or later. So, he says we should try many things to take a chance which will come someday and in the case of late try, we might miss more timely opportunities to develop. Take SONY as an example. It is widely known that SONY once dominated the world market with its innovative and advanced gadgets in past decades. At that time, there was no counterpart to vie for supremacy. However, before long, SONY was overtaken other late runners since it hesitated to spend a significant amount of money on developing high-tech devices, and instead pursued stability and maintenance. Not only the SONY case but also the failures of many other companies clearly manifest that enough money should be timely invested to get ahead in the future. In this sense, we need to do something steadily or timely like Dick to catch a chance.

At first I found that Dick is a lucky man. He risked his life to save a drowning child. But he refused the reward money from boy’s father, and then he obtained a well-paid work. Dick’s opportunity was not accidental. Dick is an honest man. His honest win the opportunity. We can imagine that if it is a selfish person would certainly not rescue the children. If that person tries his or her best to rescue the child in order to get paid, the child's father would not take him as a true friend.

In the final Dick accepted the job. But it is because he like and need this job. I believe that if he has already had a job, he will not accept this well-intentioned. This is a man of integrity.

In the real life this kind of people are very few. We are all being deceived by material desires. No one can endure all the material temptations. So to be a person like Dick is not easy.

Because of his brave, ambitious and the chance who gave him in America. Finally, he became a successful man that everybody admire him.
Sometimes, i had a good chance, but i didnt catch it. He is a lucky guy, because someone gave him a job and chance.
The article gave me a point, i have to do my best everyday, not just think myself.
Now, we cant find like a Dick very few. If we want help people, we also consider about the reward. It's not good for us. When i finish the article,i learned a lesson from here. I have to think my life in the future and dont waste my time anymore if I want to be rich.

This story tells us that you should become “YES MAN” which means you should hold any opportunity even if you don’t want to. If you help people without considering the advantage, you will get more opportunities than other people. People think only what I am going to get now when they help people. Most people don’t consider the value further. Everyone knows “Butterfly effect” which means even though you are just done a small thing and then everything may be affected by you. You help people without any benefit, but you might get unexpected value in the future. This value may bigger than your thought and it can’t be estimated. On the other hand, intangible value is important as well such as your feeling or other people’s evaluation of you. Any opportunity can change your life. However, I think a selfish person can’t get a pretty good opportunity which means say “YES” to people who need help.

What I learn from the character of Ragged Dick

In this story, I found that Ragged Dick has a quality of detachment and his self-honesty fosters integrity as well as his achievements toward life. His is also likely to be ambitious, keep in mind to give more rooms for innovation and advance his level. But still is prepared to work hard and weather the difficult periods in order to achieve his goals. It shows how he deals with his working life and goals in this chapter. Even he is going to higher position, he still want keep his old stuff to remind himself of the hard. He is probably a steady, determined worker and he expect nothing to be easy, and never take for granted the support and good will of others. Still, he is always welling to see new opportunities when they arrive on your doorstep. I think because he is loyal and devoted, and feeling that he is always able to offer practical help to others. Like the part in the story, he carried his colleague to take his place after he quit. I really think he is so supportive and genuinely concerned about the people around him or even the stranger. So that’s why he let himself involve into the unnecessary risk-taking to save the boy’s life by jumping into the water. With his integrity, self-discipline and a respect for the old fashioned virtues of loyalty and chariness for others, of course his reputation reflects his good personalities. When the chance coming, People can easily recognize his worth and receive the kind of recognition he deserves. Because he owns such quality of his personality, it ensures that he is likely to be a very high achiever later on. From this story, I think Ragged Dick can be a good model for us to learn.

Dick used to working at a store for three dollars every day. but one day, he saved a boy who fell into the water. but in this chapter, i really wondered why the father of the boy didnt try to save the boy by himself and just asked everyone to save his kid? the kid worths only ten thousands dollars for him?? it is not a point of this story, but it made me have the question. anyway Dick was very brave, and he saved the boy without considering any rewords. after that with his rewording this action, his salary became higher, and he started to get ten dollars every day.
i thought that wht i have done will return to me somehow sometime. so i should do everything my best every moment.

Dick is a lucky man. He’s been a man who was worried about money every day. But once he got a chance. And he hold the chance.

One day he saw a boy dropped into water, but no one can save him. Dick knew he was good at swimming, so he jumpped into the water and tried his best to save that boy.

It never occurred to him that he saved the buy and get a new job which he was really wanted. Before he got the job, his salary was 3 dollars per week, but after that his salary was 10 dollars per week. It was amazing for him.

You never know what will be happened. If someone need help, just tried to reach out to them. Don’t demand a reasonable amount of dividends now. Your effort will pay off one day.

If Everyone Is Like Dick

Obviously, I want to have some friends like DICK who can tell me the truth and try to be him toughly. My friend has told me a true essence that never expect others pay a debt of gratitude when you are helping them. I know she is right. So I totally understand the reaction when DICK got the new suit. But in this world, people except to get the reward from others but others just take the help for granted. Everyone wants to get more without paying. So I want my people like DICK.
And I’m pretty sure my people who just treat me as I treat them as well. And I find that as I grow up, I just become a false tongue. I smile to someone I don’t like, when I have different opinions I don’t say and just chose to evade the issues rather than facing them. I know deeply in my heart I don’t treat them as my friends. I try to be nice, nothing is wrong. But I still have my principles; if you break it on purposes I should be mad and treat them as common friends no longer. It is hurt. Everyone is selfish more or less, nobody is perfect. But I know that it is worthy to pay out to someone valued.
I hate people complaining every day, unfortunately I is one of them. All right, it seems I need to improve myself again. life is short and find someone who you can trust.

I think if Dick act like the article, his life could risk. If i were him, i couldn't be brave although I thought I need to do or, not. First of all this article didnt impress me at all. After i've read it, i dont want to read the whole story about this guy. Why? Because when you're reading this chapter, seems like Dick was a kind of guy, you know,who is too good, who is doing everything for "A+" He didnt spend his money for bars and casinos, no drugs, he doesnt have fun a lot, just working, and in his first day off work he desided to go....yeah to have an excursion....Pretty strange decision for a young boy. Do i wanna know him after reading it? Nope. It was very predictable that he will save the lil boy, that he will refuse to take money and ect... Very boring chapter.

Why/How Dick changed

Dick was ragged. After something happened, he became not ragged any more, and just changed his whole life. We can say he was lucky because he met a good opportunity; or we can say he improved his life by himself because he grasped that opportunity.

On the other hand, Dick was absolutely nice guy. As the writer described in paragraph 10, “His determination was formed before he heard the liberal offer made by the boy’s father.” Dick jumped into the water to rescue the boy, not for the offer. There are still a lot of people who were unmoved when a child fell into the water but energetic after the parent made the label offer.

Be honest, if I was also there with Dick, I must be hesitated. As usual, everybody does something after think about himself. So was I. If I try to rescue the boy, I might be neither able to save him nor myself. It wasn’t worth for sacrificing another life. All I could do was asking for help. I am not ashamed for my think about this because I can’t swim. Jumping into the water blindly is not wise choice for me.

Generally speaking, I admire Dick for his brave and kind heart. And also I think Mr. Rockwell is a reliable gentleman.

A Kind Hearted Person ( Thanh Tran-Terry)

Dick saved the boy without thinking although it could risk his life. He is really a kind hearted person. I really admire him because I don’t know if I were in his situation, I could do like him or not. As my mother often said “when you do a good thing without thinking for you, something good will come to you” and Dick was rewarded. He was offered a good job that he never thought that he could get. When he retired from business, he left his job for a man who needed it. He never forgets that he also had an old vagabond life with nick name “Ragged Dick”. He had a chance to change his life and now it is time for him to give another chance to someone who really needs it.

Sometimes, I think about the meaning of life. I realize that life is always fair. It never takes nor gives someone all the things. Life is difficult but if we keep trying and never give up, we will get what we want. Dick’s story really gives me a hope that I will succeed if I do all I can. Besides, it makes me feel happy because I know that in this world, there are people who always respect the value of lives. They help other people with kind hearts.

For many people, they will not risk their live for strangers. However, Dick did it. Maybe many people will say that this is a stupid action. It’s dangerous to make a joke with own lives. But I think we should recognize his behavior. It is selflessness. Nowadays, fewer people willing to help the others. They just take care about themselves. They always scheme how to put off rivals. They regard fame and fortune as centers of their lives. They struggle whole lives for fame and fortune. However, they forget something more important. It is the real value of lives. Society competition makes us lose the correct values. We don’t know what we really want. Actually, we should realize that fame and fortune exists short. But what we learn from the life process can exist longer.

This article talks about prejudice which means some people look down others because they have different colors, languages, or countries. This issue is always around us. However, what cause people to prejudice others? In my opinion, first reason is money. Back to few decades, if black people had mass of money and had most powerful weapons, who dare to prejudice black people. Second reason is history. Now, we learn faults, success and right and wrong from history. Some people prejudice other country because of wars in history. Countries got benefit from wars. However, we learned a lot from wars, therefore, now countries get their benefit via other ways. I don’t think there has any reason that anyone should be blame for the history. I have a friend who told me that he would not be friend with Japanese because of history. Indeed, I don’t agree with him, but I don’t think there has any way that can change his mind. Final reason is education and it is most important thing. I think if we get better education, then the prejudice will reduce. That the reason that the prejudice is getting less. However, I don’t think there is any good reason that allows people to prejudice or to be prejudiced. My friend who is from Brazil told me “I am not better than anyone, but no one better than me either”. I always think about this.

Before I read the article, I could not guess what the title want to say to us : Long overdue.
I thought many various things about "overdue" But I knew the meaning after reading the article and the author's purpose. Naomi is an Arab American and she heard bad things about Arab in England. She was very angry and mad for that kind of saying, she could not tell anything to them. actually I have same experience with Naomi.
When I came in New York, I did not speak English very well.
I lived in dormitory and I met many international students at there.
But one of my international friends told me about East Asia. She had kind of bad bias. she thought Asian people are poor and they have very low culture. I was very mad but I could not say anything because I did not want to argue with her. My English speaking skill was very low and I did not how to confute with her. It became "long overdue".
I had same emotion with author at that moment.
And I realized we need to lean about another countries culture and we have to recognize that different countries have different culture.

The article takes me much time to read, I have many common points with the author and it let me think about so many things which I have been past for long overdue.
I have a bad habit which is I don’t do something until the due time is coming soon, like now I just have one hour to write this impression of this Long Overdue. This bad habit let me lose many important things. Such as miss the chance for part-time job, some food be overdue can’t to eat. And don’t to see my grandpa until he died. So many things let me so compunction.
I don’t review the knowledge which I learn in school without delay, then to do the homework in a short time to catch the time. I don’t change the clothes until the cold weather is coming then make me have a cold. I don’t eat some food until my stomach is so ache. Even though I don’t tell my parents how much I miss them until crying in my bed along. When I was a child I get this bad habit let I miss so many chance go play with others then stay along by myself. So sometimes my character has a little strange like liveliness but stay along so much time.
Through this article I know I want to change myself about action for my life, I must do something in time then don’t let me regret when the time is pass and the people was gone. I write about an article "overdue". the author of this article has a mother who is an American and a father who is a Palestian. She wrote about her experience of encouters with anti-arab people. They who said kind of prejudice to her said it without thinking. I have experienced something like this before.
I'm from Japan. Japan was not open to other countries before, and still there are very exclusive people who don't like people who are from other countries. once my japanese friend told me that she doesnt like other asian country people and doesnt want to be friends with them because they are rude and rough. i wondered why she can think in that way. of course japanese are also asians, and all of asian people are not rude. it depends on their personarity. i have a grandfather who is from taiwan and now he lives in japan. so what she said made me sad.i really felt that this kind of person meke the country very closed. i didnt say anything at the time, but i will not forget what she said.
The things which they think it is nothing may be really crucial and can hurt someone uncontiously. It is really dangerous. So this article and my experience make me think that i shoud think what I want to say over before I do it not to deny other cultures and to solute the overdues around us.

Actually, I was a person who wouldn’t like to talk about much more things about myself to other people. I used to hidden the most of my emotion, especially for the bad side. I dislike anyone know my real feeling about something unless my close friend. I always keep smile, even though, someone who let me angry or in an unhappy mood. I supposed that is a great way to get along with others. However, that is an absolutely way to bring misunderstandings to each other.
As far as I have fall in love with my boyfriend. At the beginning of that time, I still used “my way” get on with him. When we quarrel about something, I have never really expressed my feeling; I always said I’m ok. My boyfriend was obsessed with play computer games. Since that, he always forgot to do a lot of things. In fact, I have already cannot stand it anymore. But I don’t show it, no one got it. I just angry with myself. Over time, I still not communicated with him. Eventually, we parted from each other. After that, I have met him again, and I talked with him like a friend. He said to me that he likes to talk with me, but I always ignore him; In order to avoid quarrel with me, he just could spend times to play computer games.
From that conversation, I start to speak out my feeling. I found I am happier than before. As for me, that is a real way to get along with others.

In Korea, we are similar with China. It is rude to tell someone.When i was in high school, one of my freind was answer my teacher's question but he was answering wrong. Nobody did not tell my friend that was wrong. someone had to tell him that is wrong.

In my opinion, people need to change thier mind. If someone doing wrong, we have to tell him. even though if he does not like you.

I am writing an article which is named “Long Overdue”, which was written by Naomi Shihab Nye, who is a daughter of an American mother and a Palestinian father, has won many awards. After I read this article, it makes me feel that sense. I realize that if I want to say something, I must think it over. Sometimes if we want to say something, but we do not think it over and just say it straightly, it will make people feel hurt. But sometimes you may think that if you do not say anything what you know to anyone, it will make misunderstanding between you and me.
I remember that one of case in my life. When I studied in the high school, I had one of my friends who called Melo. She had a boyfriend who called Jay. They fell in love each other for 1 year. One day, I went to club to have fun, suddenly, I saw Jay seated over there in the club and holding a girl. I really do not know that girl, but I can sure that she is not my best friend, Melo. After that, I met Melo in my house, she told me that how she loved her boyfriend, and she also had a plan which is getting married. Unbelievable, at that moment, I really want to tell her the truth. But I scared that I will make her feel hurt. So I decided to give up. However, her boyfriend broke up with her. She felt so sad and she did not eat anything for a few days. At that time, I knew that, if you know something about someone which one you really care about, you should just say it. Do not bury it. If some one which you do not care, you can just ignore them. Try you best to protect your relationship with your friends, and find a best time to tell them what you know about them. Always remember that do not become “Long Overdue.”

I always see the "red flags" on campus, but never pay attention to what is talking about. I thought those problems would never happened to me.

I had a roommate who grew up in America but her family is a incomer of America. She looks nice and she is nice. At the beginning we were fine. I did not talk with her too much because I do not what to talk? She goes home every weekend, I had full classes every day. so we do not actually have time to talk. Only in the nights if I finished my homework. A night, she brought some of her friends back to our dorm. Her friends are nice and funny, but I need to do my works. I putted the earphone on my ear, then started to work on my homework. I hope I talked to her I need to finish my homework without voices I just can't. I acted like I didn't hear anything, then I finally finished my homework at 3am after she went out with her friends. I had a million times was thinking about can I talk to her to do not bring friend back after 12 clock, but I just can not open my mouth because my mom told me to be tolerate. We didn't say anything to each other during the semester, because both us do not know what to say. We are like strangers in school. If I said to her I do not like she brings her friends back to the dorm when I was going to sleep or I am doing my homework. She might knows I hate it and would not do it more. but I never say out. If I did, it could help the problems between us.

As a classic film lines: once I let a true love slip away before my eyes, only to find myself regretting when it was too late, nothing in the world can be as painful as this, if the god wound give a chance wound tell the girl I love the girl, if our love have to be settled a time limit, I wish it wound be ten hounds’ of years! I like this sentence very much, it let know never regret. In our there have a lot of things that you should to do in that time, that just have only chances for you, if you lost this chances so you will lose it. You also must have courage to say out, for sorry, for thanks, for everything what you want to. Maybe success just have only step with you, you can do just say it and do it, or you will miss it will regret. Don’t be let yourselves to be regret.

Since my low comprehension, picking up the significant point in the article was hard through reading. But I think, Nye wants to tell us, in any case, if we miss the time to do something that we have planned before, we will be faced with some matter surely. In other words, the saying long overdue is used as figurative meaning when the work had to be begun already a long time ago, but it’s still not on performance. Therefore, maybe in the last paragraph of article, the gardener mentioned like that figuratively.
Throughout such as Nye’s article, I think some expressions like ‘Don’t give yourself the go-ahead for the next level if there are things that are long overdue’, ‘Going back to basics was long overdue’, ‘The bottom line is that a new brand strategy is long overdue’, ‘We should take long overdue steps to get our business back on the right track’, and 'We can’t take advantage of a new opportunity unless we take care of the long overdue homework first' are used today.

In our lives, we often encounter that we have something to say but we don''t say anything.

Sometimes I will get some problems. For example, when my friend is talking about something he knows to everyone, I find there is a incorrect thing in his opinion. I am 100 percents sure that he is wrong, but I can not point out his mistake when he is talking even after he finish his talking. I think it is because of face.

In China, people are very concerned about their own face which means you can not point out others mistake when there are some people beside them. It will make them losing faces. This is the reason why I don’t say anything and just smile.

It is impolite to interrupt others when they are speaking, but after their speaking I always can not find a suitable topic to correct those things.

I think it does’t matter. It is not a very serious thing for us. As happy as we live. lol

Thoughts after reading long overdue

I just finished this article named “long overdue”, I felt I have so many commands with the writer. There is a important sentence in this article is “Think of something you said. Now write what you wish you had said.”
That was a winter 4 years ago, my girlfriend said she wanna separate with me. At that time, I said nothing, we just faced to face. She said I have to go, and then she disappeared in the end of the street. At that time, I think I should say something like “I highly value our love, but if you really want to separate, I.….” Maybe I could save our love. I repented having said nothing.
But sometimes, silence means more than words in some situations. That was my second finally exam in Wuhan university. My classmate sat beside me who was the grandson of the university master. When the exam almost finished, he got a peek on my paper. The teacher saw that and said I was cheating. I was so angry, cause I did nothing. And the teacher was saying some bad words all the time. I got angrier, and said to him “why he was cheating, but you said I was cheating, because I always miss your class? because he is the university master’s grandson? You are a snob.” I rend the test paper into pieces and went out the classroom. I was repented of that. If I didn’t like that, perhaps I would still in that university which was the fifth in China.
In my opinion, to learn how to treat the things in different situation is a lesson we have to study in our lives.

After Reading the article, I feel I am on writer's side. In society, there are too many arguement on racial problem. In my eyes, all people are born the same, as long as they have kind hearts, no matter what skin color they have, no matter where they from, we should admire them. The writer was once heard some bad words towards her race, and towards all people who come from her country and stay abroad. I would feel angry if I hear this kind of words, because it's a sort of discrimination. As a Chinese, the same as she is an Arabian, we have the same sense of dignity to our country. If someone try to break it, we should say some words. I am not sure why the writer hold her tongue, maybe she was not mature at that time. But she regret not doing it. In my vision, the purpose of this article is not that only the writer want to tell people about this story, and says how regretful she feel, but she is trying to express a signal that though racial problem are still being argued today, every one in the world should be admired. It's a world of care and love, not a world of discrimination.

In a world where certain equities for human beings seem long, long, long, overdue, where is the magic sentence to act as a tool? where is the hoe, the tiller, the rake?” When I saw this sentence, I have a lot of sympathy for this feel when writers bring that sentence to us. We always sink into the interminable argument. However, the reason always very simple, just because the worlds from someone is not decently. I remember a sentence which my father told me, “ A word spoken in due season is pleasant.” I always keep that in mind and reflected upon myself frequently, But it’s not the way that everybody did. Some people just like to say what they want to say, they didn’t care about what the situation and what the feel about the listener. Even worse, some impious people enjoy on attack others by rough worlds. I feel strongly uncomfortable to be with them but maybe they just around us. They didn’t keep any world in mind. Further more, the things which let people down can effect people for a long time. The magic sentence act as a tool, is the hoe to clean up the vine which has died in the drought; is the tiller to divide the soil; is the rake to flatten the field. It’s the blender, to regulate the people’s mood.

I think this article can reflect author’s inner emotion well. The author used several metaphors to spread what he wanted to say. He is an Arab. When he lived in England, he heard about something bad of Arab. It’s just bias. From his experience, I remember the ethnic discrimination problems.
As the ethnic discrimination is a long history problem, many people struggle for it. Not only happens in America, but also in many other countries. In 1862, Lincoln liberated black slaves. It was completely buried in the slavery in the United States. The long overdue emancipation of slaves finally became true. However, the discrimination still exists in modern society. Although there are many laws to restrain, the phenomenon still occurs from time to time.
Equity is a long overdue thing. People can’t choose what their countries are, they can’t choose what color they are, they can’t choose what families they born. However, they can choose the way they live. Many people try their best to prove themselves. They want to be accepted. They don’t want their status affect their performance. On the other hand, we can’t deny any person by personal issues. We should treat everyone equal. Society is a big family. It needs every people to make contributions. People should unite rather than mutual repel. However, I know, it actually needs time.
