Independence vs. Collectivity (Duekhyun Kim)

Western people, who used more left-brain than right-brain, have Individualism. Thus, they tend to see object as independent notion. On blue part of "Contact"picture, Westerners draw independent lines as connecting a lot of dots. On the other hand, Eastern people, who used more right-brain, have collectivity, so they tend to relate. On red part of the picture, they draw continuously lines as connecting all dots. Likewise, Easterners apt to associate object.

In my opinion, people in West and in East think differently when they see same picture. Because they used distinct part of brain long time ago. The reason of using separate part of brain is their old habituation. It is reflected by their culture and history. Therefore, it is difficult that people's cognition is changed. However, people in the world have to understand other cultures. Trying to decrease a gap of thinking between West and East is necessary for the world's development.
