the achievement of desire (YU CHEN)

Education is good for any individuals, as a common sense. However, are there all good aspects? Maybe things won’t be that simple. In the article, the main idea is that education sometimes can alienate people from their classmates, families, even their origins. There are so many evidences to illustrate that the writer has been changed gradually though education that on contrary made him went away from his own family members. For example, the writer’s parents are from the place where the people speak Spanish, but after receiving education from the good English teacher, the young writer started to correct his parents’ accent and allow him to look the accent as humiliating. Those kinds of cases illustrate the writer’s point that sometimes education will let people lose the respect to parents.

In my own view, I have some deep feelings about the last part of the whole article. As a Chinese student who goes to America to look for higher education, parents must be very worried and curious about my life. They always keep asking me how is school going, but what can I say to them? I do not know how I can reply the question, because sometimes we just lose the same topic with our parents. Of course education is not the only cause to make you alienate from your family, but it do is a primary cause. Furthermore, I agree that some of the writer’s opinions are too extreme, education will teach us lots of new knowledge, but at the same time, we cannot use this reason to alienate our family, our origins. “scholarship boy” is not so good, acceptable or popular in public.
