The writer invited her family members to come to New York for the thanksgiving, eventhough she didn't expect them to really come. Before at thanksgiving they usually go to see movies in order to avoid communicating with her parents. However her sister's baby, Owen, bring them more fun. The feeling of boring decreased. They did their own things individually. Her sister and she cooked dinner but her mother didn't like her cornbread. Finally, they went to the Empire State Building together.
In my opinion, the article is a little bit boring. They stay with each other but the communication between them is not enough. The writer was afraid to stay with her family closely. They left their grandfather to a new city. Every generation moves away with lonesome. Anyway, at present, the baby Owen help them unit together and bring fun, interesting. They should talk a lot and take care of each other rather than enhance the distance. People should be independent when she or he lives alones in a strange city but sometimes people can perform naturelly or freely in front of the parents.
