Take the Bitter with the Sweet

Around 50 years ago in Taiwan, there was a little girl whose name was May was born in a poor family. Before she was born, she had five siblings already. Therefore, since May was a baby, her parents just gave to her biological mother’s sister because she was a girl and they were not able to afford her living expenses. In May’s new family, there was a girl who was also adapted by her new mother because her new mother who was also her biological aunt who could not give a birth. As for May’s new father, he was a retired solider also there was a big age gap between her new mother and father. Due to the history background, in that period of time, it was common to see the age gap between the wife and husband. Therefore, May started to grow up in this new family.
In that period of time around 1950’s, almost every family was really poor; it was also included in May’s family. Since the government’s new policy which was about the mandatory education, May needed to go school. Actually, it would be a big expense for her family; it became more difficult for them to survive. Although the material life in May’s family was destitute, the whole was still positive to face everything. Nevertheless, in a mean while May just graduated from the elementary school, her father was so old that became really weak. When she was in the first grade in high school, May’s father passed away also she was only a 15-year-old girl.
As for May, the death of her father was a pain and sufferings feeling for her. Besides, it became a line of demarcation of her life. Since her father passed away, her mother’s behavior became weird such as change a religion and even finding a new husband. First, after her father dead a year, May’s mother remarried with a guy who she did not know at all, and May’s mother moved out without bringing her when she was only sixteen. In a mean while, May’s sister married and moved out as well. When May just realized that nobody cared about her, she asked her mother “Why do you marry again? Dad just passed away a year! And you are so rush to find a husband!! Why?” she asked. However, her mother just answered her “when daughters grow up, they eventually would marry, move out and belong other’s family. Therefore, as for my future, I need to find another husband to rely on for rest of my life.” She said and left the house. As for that age, it was supposed to be enjoying the high school life and loving story; however, May’s should face the ugly of reality, her mother was like abandon her.
In the beginning, May was so afraid to face the truth, she was crying along whole night in a big house on the wedding night She even wanted to commit suicide because she thought that the whole world was like forget her, if she were disappeared, it might nobody would not notice it. When she was in depressed, she suddenly thought that she might get some help from her biological parents. Unfortunately, when she just arrived their house, the way they acted looked her down and refused to help her. When May left, she swear to herself and said “ I must be successful, and I will let them to think I am so different and beg to me for help in the future! I feel so unfair!” Therefore, May started to find a part-time job to raise herself, because her step father or mother did not give her any money support. When she was doing part-time job, she realized money was so important in this real world. Hence, May gave up the chance to go to college and start to do a small business. After few years, when she was traveling, she met her soul mate who is her husband right now.
After they married, they thought they might have a small business in order to give their children better living standard. Although, in the beginning, they met some much problem, they still brought up the businesses even enlarge the field. Right now, May could be really confident to go to her biological parents place to have a dinner, and all of them the way looked at her were changed because they knew that she was a really successful woman on the business. May is so happy that her own family can be satisfactory, and she finally can see the happiness family on her own experience!
