"The Achievement of Desire" (WooHyun Kim)
Had a great time with my friends!
"Reality TV : Supprising Throwback To The Past" (WooHyun Kim)
Women's right: history, situation, advancement, and future direction. (Jee Yun Choi)
There was a movie about women's right called Iron Jawed Angels. As we saw the movie, there were women's suffrage movement during the 1910's.
I think it is hard for most to remember that women have had the right to vote for less than 100 years. However, there still exist numerous issues about discrimination against women.
- Votes for women: One hundred years toward suffarage.
- Women's rights movement in the U.S. This timeline covers the years of 1848 to 1920.
- Feminist protest, Miss America and "bra burning"
3. various women leader in the world.
Politicial part
Hilary Clinton - Presidential candidate as an women
Women's right are human's right speech.
but there are still less people ( only 3 governors of state in the U.S.)
Economic part
Myung Hee Lee - currently the chair man of the Shinsegae group, the largest retail group in Korea.
but most chair men of the company are the male.
4. Conclusion
The social system still discriminateagainet the women.
It is easy to forget remembering the effort fot women's right.
We have to remember women's sufferage and we have to encourage the women' right in the society.
"Under the Sign of Mickey Mouse" (WooHyun Kim)
Globalization is Not Americanization
There are two points of view about globalization in terms of culture. Pro-globalizers believe that the age of cultural pluralism has come true as various cultures over the world are freely exchanged beyond national borders. Conversely, cultural pessimists charge that globalization has been imposing Americanized uniformity, which may undermine local cultures and national identities. Each argument has some truth in it, but here I'd like to explore some over-blown fears about Americanization.
First, you can choose to drink Coke and eat at McDonald's without becoming American. One newspaper photo of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan showed them toting Kalashnikovs as well as a sports bag with Nike's trademark. People's culture may scarcely be eroded by mere commercial artifacts.
Second, America transforms foreign cultures into a friendly and commercial culture. Some say that American mass culture has transformed the world into a replica of the United States. Yet the reason for the success of the movie 'Titanic' was not because it celebrated American values but because people all over the world could see some part of their own lives in the story of love and loss. Successful American culture is attributed, to a large extent, to America's dependence on foreign cultures.
Third, Americas culture may not be all that American. American audience is international because of the influx of immigrants and refugees. Its regional, ethnic, religious, and racial diversity have forced America to develop cultural products with a broad multi-cultural appeal. The Hollywood studios and television networks, for instance, have had to learn how to speak to a variety of groups and classes at home. That has given them the techniques to appeal to an equally diverse audience abroad. American culture, in essence, is mixed-up cultures of the world
Fourth, national identity is not disappearing but the bonds of nationality are loosening. Nationality doesn't make an absolute difference in establishing your identity any more. Being Korean or American does not define who you are: It is part of who you are. To loosen nationality is one thing, and to lose national identity is another. As long as you speak Korean, were born and live near each other, face similar problems, and have a common experience, you are still Korean. Your national identity will not disappear.
Based on the above-mentioned exaggerations behind Americanization, it is hard to assert that globalization comes down to Americanization. It is true that American culture goes global, but it doesn't mean to regard global culture and American culture as synonymous.

America Dream(Chen Zhao)
Thesis: Every American has their own America Dream, they belief that as long as the United States after a hard struggle
the achievement of desire (YU CHEN)
Education is good for any individuals, as a common sense. However, are there all good aspects? Maybe things won’t be that simple. In the article, the main idea is that education sometimes can alienate people from their classmates, families, even their origins. There are so many evidences to illustrate that the writer has been changed gradually though education that on contrary made him went away from his own family members. For example, the writer’s parents are from the place where the people speak Spanish, but after receiving education from the good English teacher, the young writer started to correct his parents’ accent and allow him to look the accent as humiliating. Those kinds of cases illustrate the writer’s point that sometimes education will let people lose the respect to parents.
In my own view, I have some deep feelings about the last part of the whole article. As a Chinese student who goes to America to look for higher education, parents must be very worried and curious about my life. They always keep asking me how is school going, but what can I say to them? I do not know how I can reply the question, because sometimes we just lose the same topic with our parents. Of course education is not the only cause to make you alienate from your family, but it do is a primary cause. Furthermore, I agree that some of the writer’s opinions are too extreme, education will teach us lots of new knowledge, but at the same time, we cannot use this reason to alienate our family, our origins. “scholarship boy” is not so good, acceptable or popular in public.Route 66 (Mengmeng zhang)
