while a ago, when i was 13, i can say i never listen to anyone, not my parents, not my family, not my friends, not my teachers either. it was because of a sudden change three years ago, and the whole three years have shaped me into an understanding person.
i came to the States when i was sixteen; the first school welcomed was a military boarding school. i thought people there were gonna be nice; however, that place could be a concentration camp with a lot of devils. that following year, i was trained to be "aggressive", and i actually started listening to other people.
that summer, i went to new hampshire for summer school. there i met tons of new people; there were two left me most impressions. the first one was a girl from a wealthy family, she talked to me a lot about her little sister, her stepmother, her family's history. the day we left that school, she told me:" Lucy, you are so lucky, you don't actually understand what i have said, but your patient and company have made me a great summer."
the other Asian girl was adopted by a white family, we talked a lot cuz her life was such a fascinating story. we finally bacame lifetime friends, and next summer we are going to the country where she came from and going to find her real family.
so, the next year, i went back to the military school and became a leader of girls' company. i was totally fresh, of course i was frustrated as well. how could i know how to control those devils?! thanks to my mentor, she gave me a lot advice of how to be a good leader, such as listening and setting a role model. i followed what she had told me, and magic did happened. i set myself and my company the best reputation in this military school, and we won the biggest award of the whole year. until now, all my girls want to talk to me by phone or on the internet; just because i was and am a good listener.
last year i went to Shanghai, where i was born and raised; my parents amazingly found out that i am more mature and understanding than three years ago. it was because of all the good time and bad i have been through, that helped me growing up.
being a good listener can not only bring you more friends also suprise. today i look back, i was no longer that aggressive and angry person, i have friends, family, strangers, and whole world. change an attitude towards others, life will show you another utopia.

Conversation is just like playing catch.
We cannot play catch without receiving a ball from a partner. When we are absent in mind, we will miss a ball. Likewise we cannot communicate and understand each other without listening eagerly.
However, it is true that to be an effective listener is very difficult. In general, Japanese tend to keep quiet when somebody is talking and let him or her express thought, but it does not mean that we are effective listeners. Being quiet and passive is totally different from really listening. Sometimes it shows that we are not listening but bored. I think that many people have experiences that apathetic or critic listeners made them lose will to talk. As Brenda Ueland pointed out in her essay, effective listening is “the gifted and great role, and the imaginative role.”

Just Be an Audience(GuangDi Zhu)
Every people want to be a speechmaker. But people don't like to hearken. I think your friends or your famliy will be appreciate if you can be a audient for them. even sometimes you don't have to understand what are they talking about. The true is people just want someone can sit down and give them a chance to narrate.

Volunteering to others is a way or process of sublimation of our lives. A Shy Experience.(Hugo,Chung)
Ten years ago, I had chatted with some girl for a long period of time. About almost more than one month.
At that time online chatting had just began and was really booming in my country for the younger generation.
At that time, indiscreet individuals were really interested and curious about each other.
We would chat every day and night though we do not sleep much at night.
And someday we decided we wanted to see each other in person.
(Before I go on, one thing I can say is at that time we could not exchange any pictures or watching cam at the situation of less technology.)
So we decided to meet in person in front of the record shop.
Another good thing was she was living near my place.
Finally we had met each other.
However, when we meet both of us realized she was my good friend’s sister.
At that time, we really didn’t want to believe it. So we were really shy and shocked. I would like to have gone hiding somewhere. I really thought I was stupid wondering why I didn’t know she is my friend’s sister earlier. However, while drinking coffee, we decided we should just keep this a secret forever. And she requested for me to never talk to her brother about it because she didn’t want any drama from her brother and parents because she had chatted with some guy. (Their family is a really conservative family.)
Moreover just then I also wanted this secret to be keeping hidden forever.
After that we just said our extremely typical bye, bye. And even now when I sometimes visit her house to see him, she is just pretending but secretly smiles to me without any communication.

First of all, the title is really interesting. "Love in time of no time". When I saw the title, I didn't know it talks about "online dating". It made me want to read it.
"Online dating", this word is not strange any more in 21st century. A lot of people found love through it. Most of my friends do online dating, and they got love, even some of them got untrue love.
I agree with author anyway. Most people think the people from internet are untrue, they lie, they cheat. But I don't think that's could be a reason. Even though in the real world, the people lie and cheat every day. However, I agree online dating is a uesful way to get love.

After reading this article, suddenly one thing i remember. when i was high school student, my math teacher usually said like " Hey guyz~ do you understand?" All the students usually stayed in mute. At that time, the teacher really confused whether we did understand or not, and even the teacher let us say anything forcingly, after he said something. we were only eightteen or something, and did not know how important interaction was. After class, he often said that saying something after he said is really important to increase our quality of study, and even helped a lot between you and me in terms of math. However, even if i did not understand how importand it is at that time, i can understand how important it is now. When i graduated high shool, i sometimes did part time job in english institute to teach junior high shool students. However, one thing i felt was that " wow, i could understand what my math teacher said at that time" when i taught my class, my students did same action the way i did when i was a student. it was so terrible. I was too stuffy to teach my class. Moreover, i even felt that "Are they ignoring me?, or are they sleeping, pretending like they are understanding? this article remind me to think of when i had that kind of experience. the ariticle got me opportunity to reconsider how important listening carefully, and also reaction something to people who said us something.

However, unlike me, if people will do volunteering works as their own will, i think we can make it a better place like theat lyric. there is a tendency that people live their life for only theirselves, or only money, or only something relatived to them. like these reason, how can we make more bright and healthy world?
Sometimes i make some plans to help poor people, or homeless people, but these are only worked in my thinking, not working in reality. that is a problem. After reading the articles, I think about the modern love.
Through the online dating, people should have married early. However, “Americans are marrying later and so are less likely to meet their spouses in high school or college.” This is the change because of the fast paced and high technology. Also, this is the change because of the different sense of worth.
When we are young, we would like to try everything interesting and do everything we can in order to enjoy our life, waste our time and pursue the fun. We can date online, meet people and do everything we want because we are young. We have time and energy. At the moment we adapt to this kind of life and let it become addiction. Our life changed. After all, things change, so do people. They come into our lives and they go. We will be alone.
As for me, loneness is pizzazz in 20s, an avocation in 30s and a disaster after 40. Maybe I am also the person who will overlook friends, but I believe that the ones I love are always in my heart and I will never be lonely.L

recently, a guy, his name is Ismail, hooked me up on internet, he found me on facebook and added me on facebook. Ismail said he is a soldier in Turkey. it was a great talk with him, but it is hard for me to believe somebody on Internet. Internet, the day it was born, is determined as no resiponsibility to any comments or behaviors. it is just a utopia for those who needs flirts and sparkles but not able to get in real life. the author mentioned sex and diappearing after a while of chatting. that is excatly what happening on the internet.
so i never have an optimistic attitude towards internet dating, neither would i like to try it.

i liked Alone Together a lot, it describles how we people are so lonely nowadays, when we need some help,it always turns out we are the only one who can help ourselves. The author of Alone Together pulled out a lot examples from movies or quotes from famous writers, for instant, "Mark Twain called it (Manhattan)'a splendid desert'." After i read JunHyung's comments; i stared thinking, is being alone a good way of relaxing after one tired day? we definately need private space to do certain personal things,like reading a best-selling book, or watching cartoon, or hiding a skeleton in his or her closet.
remember the old times when a whole big family living together, no one has privacy, and all those rules from adults choked us; but now we are free, so what are we crying over? enjoy now, enjoy life!

Love in the time of No time (JunHyung Park)
when i read this article, i felt this article is more funny than Alone Together. Actually, in this digital age, people might have some experience about online dating at least one time the way i did. i do not remember exactly, but i think this was when i hit 14 years old. at that time, internet was bout to be poppularization for young people. Like other students did, i also logged on one online dating website. it was really cool, and interesting. However, the more an area of internet is larger and larger, the more bad effects are occured by internet. some people use some kind people, decieve children, and seduce girls by drinking , or money, even sometimes rape women. these are all the reason why I think of online dating badly. if there are something enjoyable funny things in online dating, don't you think there have to some rules, or etiquette like necessity requirement between people and people? i am really sorry that some people try to make crimes by online dating as disquising themselves. are you guyz positive on internet meeting? or online dating?

After reading this article, i really agreed with most part of things. Actually, economy is growing around a center of commerce like Manhattan, most of people tend to be gathered in big city. No wonder NewYork is a world economy city. So people come to NewYork from Ohio, Miami, even LA. Some students want to go to NewYork, because they want to get higher education. some workers want to go to NewYork, because they want to get better work place, or higher payment. all of these reasons are why people move to NewYork. However, are they move to NewYork alone or with their family? some people often move there together, but most people move alone like me. We alreay have seen that people live alone in their apartment alone. what else can we assume that why single individual households are increasing?
first, the more society are developing, the more people want to have their own job. long time ago, we thought that men have to work hard, and women have to take care of their children at home. However, now, everything is changed. the men want to get their job, the women want to get their job. these situations make people delay their marriable age. people want to work rather than to marry. that is the big reason why indivisual households is increasing.
Second. people tend to be more selfish, and also members of a family are decreasing.

How reading relates to writing (Edward Chen)
Reading and writing are inseparable. Reading is an important component for people to improve their writing skill. The more people read, the more improvement of writing they will achieve. For example, in childhood, parents always give their kids some books which include illustrations to read before the kids possess writing skills. Since these children read the books and appreciate the meanings of the words, they have the ability to write sentences little by little. Nonetheless, the improvement for the children in this stage is limited, because the materials they use are simple. However, when the children start going to schools, writing skills for the children are surprisingly boosted. The reason for the great improvement is because they have to read a lot of academic essays or journals. Therefore, to improve the writing skill whereby reading ”academic” essays or journals is an effective and efficient way.
Reading academic essays can help people writing in different ways. First of all, we can absorb various writing styles from reading different author’s articles. In America, some professors like to grade students based on their improvements. If a student writes her/his essays with the same writing style, s/he might not be able to obtain a good grade despite the student is good at using words. However, if another student, who is capable of writing in varied styles, uses simple words in the essays. This student will receive a superior grade than the student who always writes in the same style. Furthermore, reading academic essays also helps writers to build up their vocabularies. When students are assigned to write an academic essay, the vocabularies they are going to use in the essay has to be more specific. For instance, “good” and “bad” are too general, writers need to find other words which more precisely describe how good or bad the situation is. The last advantage of reading academic essays is to prevent colloquial language. This advantage somehow relates to the last perspective. Students will need to look up some more vocabularies while they are reading an academic essay, because academic essays compose of a bunch of words with precise meanings, and these words might not be spoken in people’s daily life, so they will feel unfamiliar with the words.
Reading really brings me to the next level of writing. When I was in the English Second Language program, one of the assignments was to use the new vocabularies I found from the reading materials to make an essay. I had to write an essay which consisted of these words so I utterly comprehended the meanings of these new words. If I could properly use these vocabularies in my essays, it meant I fully understood these vocabularies. This method really expedited my understanding of the words and made my essays more fluent.
In addition, I realized how reading could connect to writing when I was assigned to do a research paper. A research paper means I have to search for a lot of information and exploit the data into a paper. At the beginning, I merely had some brief ideas; hence, I went online to find some academic articles and news which supported and related to my topic. After I read these articles, I not only obtained some quotations, but also perceived how to start my research paper. Reading these articles helped me to combine my ideas, and also provided me some positive and negative perspectives about my topic. Additionally, it also provided me some ideas that I didn’t even think of. Counting on these reading materials, I received a good grade for my research paper. If I hadn’t read these articles, I would not have improved this much.
However, to read academic essays has some degree of disadvantages as well. If students peruse too many academic readings, it might make their daily speech sound too formal. Usually people speak in a causal way in their daily life, and causal speech is easier to be appreciated. Therefore, it is a bit queer to talk to friends or people around you in a formal way. Moreover, if writers are unable to digest the writing styles they capture from perusing different authors’ masterpieces and transfer authors’ styles into their own style; they maybe lose their own writing styles. Creativity is significantly important for college students when they are going to do a writing assignment. As a result, reading will not utterly help you on writing if you don’t have sufficient ability to digest it.

How difficult writing --- Bang, Hyung Soo
Writing is another way to express their thinking, emotion and opinion. Sometimes people prefer writing to express what they want to say as a substitute speaking even though speaking is easier to express than writing. All the writing forms have their own way such as from informal writing to formal writing. Informal writing does not need a mode such as a journal and a letter but formal writing has to need a mode such as an essay, a resume any report in a company. Lots of student does not want to write formal writing especially an essay which affect their grade. Especially, writing is difficult for international student because English is their second or third language and if they are not good in English, they usually translate more than one times in their brain. I also do like that when I write or speak something in English.
Actually, when I first came here, New York, I did not speak English so I could not eat anything for two days from first day in New York.
My first writing was an assignment when I went to language school in Manhattan. Of course, I have written essays when I was in university in Korea but it was my first writing in English, my assignment, may possibly first in my life. The topic was about who am I and I have spent three days for the writing even though It was simple and short writing. Actually, I do not like to write something. I prefer speaking to writing even though in Korean. Especially, academic writing is always killing me whenever I have an essay assignment. I know how important is in university. I never ever forget my first experience to write an essay in my life. I had any idea about an essay such as how to write an essay and what modes I should use for an essay. My first essay was 3 years ago in a private academy for the toefl in Manhattan. I had to write a short essay for an assignment and I wrote it informally and I thought it was going to be best of best in my class but my expectation was totally wrong. I did not understand what is wrong with my essay and I went to the teacher and asked why my essay was bad. The teacher said that I had to write based on a mode. I knew at that time how to write an essay and an essay should write based on introduction, body and conclusion. Also introduction should include what is going to be in body paragraph and body should include more than three sections of paragraph and last paragraph, conclusion, should rewrite the introduction with different letters.
I really wanted to write very well and I did my best to improve my writing skills. I decided to read books every day for my writing skills so I bought a novel, Sherlock Holmes, firstly but I totally did not understand what it was about. I disappointed that and I decided to start reading with easy books. I bought a book for children and I enjoyed reading with that. After read all the book, I always went to a book store to buy a book and I bought more difficult one than before I read such as step by step. I have also written journal every day for a year. At first time to write journal, it was difficult for me. I wanted to write a lot but I could not write all things what I wanted and used simple letters and sentences. At firstly, I pushed myself very hardly and suffered from an obsession. However those things gave me just lots of stress and were not helpful for me. These days, I still write journal every day.
I am sure I will never satisfy with my writing skills because greed gives me bigger and more greed. However, I am not going to stop to improve my writing skills. Even though I have tried very hardly, writing is still difficult and I feel overwhelmed by writing. Even if I am in writing coma, I will never forget and do my best.

Writing is meaningful in our lives(XIAOJING WU)
We know the world through our eyes.
We read books and know deeper about world with our hearts.
We understand others more through their speaking and writing.
Language is powerful.
Writing is one of the ways that language presents.
For me, writing is the best way to express myself, even to communicate with others. When I am writing, it forces me calm down to unscramble my thoughts, and to find out the root of problems. Sometimes I feel confuse of some things or be angry with someone, through wiring some words, some simple words, I will find everything is not a big deal. Everything happens for reasons. If find the reasons, things will be much easier to accept. Unfortunately, yesterday an unhappy thing happened to me. I talked on the phone with my dad yesterday afternoon, in the hall ways, because my roommate was playing music. After I return room for 30 minutes, a piece of paper was pasted on my door. The paper is notice that post all is force required to be 24 hours quiet and some red words were written by hand.
“Wendy, the hall is required 24 hours quiet, so stop talk on your phone so loud in the hall ways. It is annoying.”
I felt so bad when read those words. I would rather the girls come and ask me to keep quiet when I was talking on the phone. Being written in words makes the problem become extremely serious for me, especially written in red words. In China, write one’s name in red means curse someone and ask him to die. Other things wrote in red words means very important. I feel depress and then just did some writing. This problem is really not some serious as I consider. In the U.S., there might not have the same superstition of red words. The girl might just want to express what her feeling was and make me to be attention to my voice volume. Even though, the bad feeling still exists, I can try to relieve myself.
In this case, writing is a good way to express one thought when they do not want to talk with people face to face, avoiding embarrassment. Were you ever in such a situation? You have some misunderstanding with your friends, have some argument with your boyfriend or girlfriend, have some words to tell your parents but too shy to do so? Then just try to write them something in a polite way to let them know what you are thinking about.
I like do my own writing and also read others’ writing. Writing can show us the world of the writers. Unlike speaking, writing words is through deep thinking and well organized. Different styles of writing represent different characters. We can get into several personal worlds through reading others’ writing. We can have various imaginations of others’ writing. It depends on the readers’ own experiences. People’s speaking cannot be kept for over thousands years and cannot be spread. Being written in books, one’s words can be translated into different languages and kept for years. We can still read what Shakespeare wrote but cannot hear what he said.

Writing a diary
I did not like writing when I was young. Maybe I hated writing. Whenever I had to write something, I did not know what I started from and talked about even there was a given specific topic. Before I stated to write, I had to think about what I would write about and it always took a long time. I remember that I was writing in class and every student had to make a composition. By the way, I could not finish writing nevertheless we had enough time. I actually tried to write hard, but I felt that everything that I would talk about was mixed in my head and did not know how to express my thinking. Therefore, I did not get good grade and my teacher scolded me because I was the only person who could not finish the composition. That was why I hated writing and writing was the thing which is stressful thing for me.
When I was in middle school, my teacher gives us the task that we have to write a diary everyday. Though I was stressed as soon as I heard of it, she said that it was not relevant to a grade at all and she just wanted to talk with us. If I wrote a diary, I could receive her respond the next day. I thought that I really liked to get her respond. When I was worried or happy about something, I wrote those things in my diary and I could feel that she cared about my feeling. Actually, teacher was the person who I always had to polite, respect and could not treat and talk in comfort. However, after we talk to each other with diary, I felt that she became one of my friends. After then, I started to write a letter to her and could talk with her in diary. I felt that writing was the thing that I could express my thinking and feeling and was not a difficult thing at all. I realized that writing could be fun. The diary was a start that I could like writing and I still have it.
I still feel that writing is not easy, but I do not think that writing is not fun or boring. Though it still take a lot of time to write for me, I feel comfortable and sometimes feel excited that I could tell my opinion and view with writing at least during the time. When I am writing, I feel like that I am talking to my self and can talk about anything that I want to talk. Therefore, writing became the thing that I can express my thinking and feeling honestly. Maybe because of the diary, I could feel comfortable in writing. I still write a journal everyday and it is good for me because it makes me feel calm and to think and look back myself. By the way, I could not finish writing nevertheless we had enough time. I actually tried to write hard, but I felt that everything that I would talk about was mixed in my head and did not know how to express my thinking. Therefore, I did not get good grade and my teacher scolded me because I was the only person who could not finish the composition. That was why I hated writing and writing was the thing which is stressful thing for me.

There is a variety of languages in the world and the languages have differentiated. Among a lot of languages, English is one of the most well-known languages. As much that English is really close to people. I have learning English until now from when I was young, but it is still complicated to me. Writing is my weaknesses point it because I didn’t have my own writing style now I think.
What is style and how do you acquire it? We all have a natural style. Style is simply the way in which you put words together when you are writing. It is a reflection of your speaking and thinking habits. Some people write in short staccato sentences, sometimes even without using verbs. I believe style can mirror your personality, e.g. serious, brusque, friendly, chatty... and so on. In some ways, people can write differently to the way they speak. I am not really talkative person but I try to use plenty of words in my writing! Good style is essential in any writing. You won't get published without good style. It means writing with clarity and precision. Writing is a craft which needs to be learned and practiced, so be self critical.
I want to discuss the topic that involved my work experiences. It is about this English 2 f course. There are a lot of things that I realized from this course. I am sure that I realized my writing style in this class. As you know, we wrote 3 essays until now.
At the beginning of class, I wrote the first essay about gender discrimination with visual-verbal. Through the first job, I was learning how I use the visual-verbal text in the essay. In addition, the first job makes me think more critically. Also, I used an example related the topic that is movie “Philadelphia,” I think it was really good idea to write first essay because I was possible to write more easily and I could more focus on the gender discrimination. I really can establish my style in this writing
Second job was that I wrote about gender expectation. I was able to writing with more confidence because I was also becoming more confident with my thinking skills. Through the second writing, I understood that a complicated interaction exists between perceptions and perspectives. I also used an example related the topic that is movie “Billy Eliot,” it was not until using movie case that I realized one of my favorite writing styles. I can enjoy the writing with my style for the first time.
Style is very individual; it is your own style and is yours alone- your unique personality "shining through." Style may be simple, formal, and even utilize slang, or be more complex with long sentences, sub-clauses and paragraphs; but it should never lose its essential clarity. The essence of good style, I believe, is simplicity.

The Writing of Marketing
When I had studied economics and business at university in Korea, I was belonging to a marketing society in the university. In the marketing society, I studied the marketing for survey, power-point, presentation, and some principals. Especially, the presentation inspired me because I need to make short and strong sentences in the presentation. Those sentences are also a kind of writing and those things are what I was good at.
Moreover, one of my professors always mentioned about several basic rules which the marketing writers should follow. I agreed with his thoughts strongly, so whenever I had a chance to write a marketing text or to present a presentation, I tried to do that. After few years later, I read the article about book’s review which is similar to my previous professor’s lecture.
At the first presentation, I wanted to make that audiences concentrated in my presentation. There are lots of materials in the marketing sentences such as headline, photos, and middle subject. However, the most important thing to persuade readers is the first sentence. So, I considered the first sentence as the most important thing in my presentation. If the audiences read the first sentence of the presentation, the presentation is more used to be successful.
Nevertheless, the only purpose of the first sentence is making audiences to read the next sentence. If the audiences read the first sentence of the presentation, their eyesight goes down to the next sentence. They want to know what the speaker wants to talking about. Therefore, speakers need to attract the audiences to read the next sentence. The professor of the marketing society taught that the more speakers follow this rule, the more successful result will occur. Hence, the speakers should attract the audiences from the first few sentences.
For the next, when I prepared the first presentation, I introduced many features of the product to the audiences. However, the audiences less concentrated on my presentation and they could not recognize about the product neither. Also my professor pointed out my problem and advised to introduce the features about three to four.
After that, I had to think about the stream of the presentation. Although each of the features is different, all of them are in a same concept of the product. Besides, I had to make the audiences to concentrate the whole presentation like slides. If there is not the same concept, the audiences may confuse about the product. So the features of the product should be unified in the concept. Also, the speaker of the presentation present to audiences about the concept in very brief but strong words.
Even though the concept is important thing in the presentation, the speaker should explain more about that to persuade audiences. I think the function of the product concept is only occur interests of audiences however, the concept cannot make the audiences to buy the product. Another important element to make audiences to buy the product is contents. And the contents can contain many kinds of information as the evidence. For instance, statistic research, table, and opinion of experts can be a part of the contents.
When I prepared the first presentation, I had several researches to fill the contents, and to make my audiences to buy the product. I went to the region near the big city and asked to people about marketing research of electronic products. Also, I visited the electronic engineering professor to get his opinion.
As I mentioned above, I experienced a lot about marketing presentation and writing from the marketing society in the university. I made lots of mistakes however, those mistakes made me to write and speak more effectively. Because the main purpose of the marketing presentation or writing is to persuade audiences to buy the product, the presentation has to be honest to audience but also attract them. Also, marketing presentation is not only the method to sell the product, but it can also build up the relationship between the marketer and consumer.

Do you enjoy writing? Actually, I don't. I mean, I liked to write anything when I was in my country on my language. After coming here to NewYork, I hate to write because Im not good at writing and speaking in English. For me, It is very difficult one. When I was in primary school, every students have to write and learn how to write poem or short essay so we learned that things and I liked to write. When I was in middle school and high school then Im in university so writing is not just to enjoy. Writing is essential to mylife.
Since I came here, Im doing with enthusiasm to write even though it is not sufficient yet. I realized that when Im taking a Eng2F class I need to persevere in my efforts. I still feel that writing is not easy but I'm just trying and trying to write. When I'm writing writing is not so expressive as I think. Im going to make efforts it takes soem doing though.

What is writing? Writing is a method which creates thoughts into words by using symbols in your languagel to convey the meaning of what you are trying to say. Admittedly, Writing is very important in my life, as a student, writing is an important part and indispensable.
When I was in primary school, every student began to learn how to write short essay, but actually just wrote some sentences. Because we were pupils at that time, and began to learn writing. When I was in junior high school, senior high school and then I am in college, writing all along very important in my life. Different kinds of essay or paper we need to write, since I was a pupil to a college student, I must write more and more. From just write several simple sentences to now I must write several pages essay, I don’t how many essays and paper already I wrote. It looks like I have a lot of experience for writing, in fact, very student should the same, because we are student, writing is a very important part in our student life. Even though I have many writing experience, but I don’t think I am a good writer, especially when I am writing in English.
English as my second language, I hope to I can use English very well like my mother language – Chinese, no matter speaking or writing, but I must study more hard and then I can do that, I believe I try hard I can. Sometimes, I feel so confused when I writing in English. I try to express something in my mind, but I don’t how to express in English. If let me express in Chinese, I think I can do it easily, but in English, I usually spent long time to consider how to express what I think. On the other hand, vocabulary is an important reason make me feel confused when I writing in English. As a matter of fact, I don’t have enough vocabulary, and I know I depend on dictionary too much, if without dictionary, a lot of words I don’t know how to spell, even though I know which word, l know the meaning and how to speak, but I forget how to spell. I also know there are so many mistakes in my essay include grammar, phrasing, spelling, expression and so on.
I remember when I was still in ESL class; one day, teacher gave us a topic and told us hand in the perfect essay and no mistakes on Monday. So we must go to lab and let another teacher help us correct our essay. Because lab did not open on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, so I only go to there on Friday morning. And then, on Thursday, my friend and I wrote this essay all-night. Eventually we finished and after we slept a few hours, we went to lab on Friday morning to let teacher corrected our essay. That was my first time wrote essay all-night and that was also one kinds of my writing experience.
Actually, I like informal writing more than formal writing. I think most of people are the same as me. My favorite style of informal writing is blog posting. I like to write something especial in one day, note down something special happening and my feeling. For example, I will write something in my birthday, special holidays, and hang out with my friends. Anyway, I like to write anything I like and anything I think and my feeling.
But I don’t like academic writing. Academic writing is different from high school; it is harder and need more pages. Like research paper, I am not good at write that, so about research paper, I will feel confused about how to write that. I will want to write clearly, to have an interesting and arguable thesis, to construct paragraphs that are coherent and focused, but it is a litter bit hard for me. I am not good at logical writing and research paper often is a big project and need to write a lot of pages, I am so afraid about that. But academic writing is very important in college, so I must improve my writing skills. Even though I cannot write paper as well as America people, so I must spent more time to improve my writing skills. Do more reading and do more writing are very good ways to improve writing skills.

The Easiest Way to Keep and Arrange Our Think.
Since human made language they try to write and keep our thinking. Even we have other way to keep our thinking, writing is still important and easiest way to keep out information. Almost everyone is writing something every day, even it isn’t a long writing like a essay or journal. Some time’s they memo something and try to remember, but the memo is impossible to keep their thinking perfectly. Memo is just one or two sentence, it helps to bring our memory. For the reason if we want to keep our thinking we write something like more wrong and complicate. Not only for keep have thinking but also writing given many good things for us.
Have you ever read childhood diary? If you have, you can probably understand what I mean. If we read what we write before, we can remember what we had thinking or doing at that time, but it is very hard to remember without anything. Memorize something for a long time is very hard. But if we write something it can be easier. Writing is not just writing a fact. Writing is the way we can keep our memory.
Another interesting thing about writing is writing can arrange our thinking, when we write. Before we write something, we think what we want to write. Sometimes we think about the topic about the writing. It can give many ideas and make possible to organize our thinking when we write something. Writing makes us thinking about the topic. When we write something, we are not just writing that. The writing makes topic more clearly and give time to understand about topic to us. Sometimes doing writing, we can find our solution or confidence about the topic.
To see this writing is not just write a fact to us. It is the way of thinking and way of remembering. Do the write, if you need idea about something. Writing always helps you. Keep do the writing, writing will keep your memory and think. Writing will always help you.

Good Essay?
Essay is the representation of writer’s ideas and thoughts in a textual, and it should be arranged in strong structure as introduction, body, and conclusion because the arranged structure helps readers to understand easily that reason and intention of why writer wrote that. However, the structure is not only important thing, also the good words and fluent sentences are also very important parts of writing, and these are formed in the writing. Actually, good selection of word, which not too easy words, is the beginning of good writing because the good words form good sentence. Then the good sentence forms fluent paragraph. When these three things words, sentences, and paragraphs are arranged, good essay is created with introduction, body, and conclusion.
The introduction is usually used to be beginning of article, and it should be designed to attract the reader’s attention. It also gives writer’s idea of the article’s focus. When writers write the introduction, they usually begin with startling information and anecdote. The reason of using these is to grab readers’ attention, and to make readers feel interesting from the introduction. The startling information have to be fact and provable because if it is not fact, the article would be fiction not the essay. It can be a proper fact that obviously illustrates the point writer wishes to make. The anecdote is a short account of a particular incident or event of an interesting or amusing nature, often biographical. (Dictionary.com) When writer uses the anecdote, it should be short because it can make the introduction too long and boring, if it is too long. It also has to be related to the essay’s topic.
Thesis statement is the most important thing in the introduction, in my personal opinion, because it is a summary of the story of essay. It really affects readers to understand and expect what writer tries to say. The thesis statement usually comes at the end of the first paragraph, and it is one sentence in length. Therefore, if there is not a perfect thesis statement, the essay cannot be started.
Each body paragraph should explain, argue, or describe the topic with personal experience or data. The personal experience or data can support the writer’s main ideas, which it means the essay is written by fact information. However, when writer get some data from books or web-site, writer must put work-cited on the last page of the essay to not be plagiarism. If writer has two or three main ideas, the essay usually will include two or three body paragraph.
The last one is the conclusion, which comes at after the last body paragraph. I personally think the conclusion is the easiest step of writing essay because it just needs to sum up writer’s points and ideas. It also can help readers to clearly and strongly understand the essay’s summery, so the conclusion is better to have a few sentences.
Usually, when writers start to write essay, they choose firstly a topic and think about some ideas. Writers write the introduction with startling information and anecdote to grab readers’ attention. The body paragraphs are usually written by main ideas with supporting data and personal experience. When writers get data or information from book or web-site, they must put the work-cited because of the plagiarism. The conclusion is the last step of writing essay, which is summing up. Now you can make fluent structure in essay.

Importance of writing essays(SUNGJOON HONG)
I think writing is one of the important parts of learning English as an international student. Writing is another way to express how I think something that. Especially, for me, writing is more important than others. Frankly, I cannot express my own opinion and thinking very well. In other words, writing is another way to express my opinion instead of speaking. However, most people don’t like writing essays.
English including both of writing and speaking is difficult for me. I didn’t think writing is difficult for me in my country. However, my low English skill interrupt what I thought and I want to represent. Consequently, writing is very difficult for me. When I took ESL program, I wrote diary in English. That’s my whole writing but now, I don’t do that because it takes long time for me to write diary in order to write something I need to finding suitable vocabulary, expression, grammar and so on. So since I’ve started last spring semester, I could not assign the time to write essay. I think my major problems are expression. I don’t know what expression is correct in English. In addition, I cannot often understand some idioms. I cannot understand it exactly.
When I finished ESL program, I took ENG 1F class. First I confront with essay, I felt very nervous because I had to write ENG 1F essay which require more pages than ESL essays. It is too difficult for me. This semester, I take ENG 2F class. It is also not easy for me. Especially, research paper is very difficult for me. This paper requires seven or ten pages. I think research paper is the most difficult assignment out of other assignments in this semester.
In conclusion, in my case, first time, when I wrote essay, I felt very nervous and irritate. However, I took ENG 1F class and ENG 2F class almost over. Owing to ENG 1F and 2F class, I feel better than past and improve writing skills. I appreciate to professor. However, my wiring skills are still insufficient. However, my low English skill interrupt what I thought and I want to represent. Consequently, writing is very difficult for me. When I took ESL program, I wrote diary in English. That’s my whole writing but now, I don’t do that because it takes long time for me to write diary in order to write something I need to finding suitable vocabulary, expression, grammar and so on. So since I’ve started last spring semester, I could not assign the time to write essay. I think my major problems are expression. I don’t know what expression is correct in English. In addition, I cannot often understand some idioms. I cannot understand it exactly.

Unlike the rigid structure of high school life, universities present an opportunity for students to teach how to learn. When I try to think of the most important class I have ever taken, I tend to think of classes that had a lot of practical value. Some examples include a English class, a political science class, and History class. These classes have had practical applications writing. From this
perspective, perhaps the most important class I have ever taken was a typing class that I took when I was in high school. Although not everyone has writing talent or is interested in English, I think it is important for everyone to have some exposure to writing. Because of this, I think that writing should be part of the required curriculum in high schools.
First, at the time I had no idea that the class would be so useful. The class was offered as an elective, and I took it because I thought it would be easy. The teacher, whose from another country I still remember, she touch us how to write. And she was gentle but insistent in her instruction. By the end of the class, most students could write without dictionary.
Second, English enjoyment is something that comes naturally to most teenagers. And I also spend a large part of my spending time. Never stop Training:Writing (Jake yoon)
Since April 2007, I have been studying the many aspects of the English language. The main focus, however, was writing. I learned how to write an essay when I was in middle school and high school in Korea, however, the education of English in Korea did not force students to practice their writing skills. Memorizing grammar and paragraph structures are the best ways to earn a good grade in Korea. After I had the chance to study in the United States, I realized that writing itself is very important: more than I thought. Therefore, I practiced hard and I earned a good grade in my previous English class. In addition, my final English class is nearing the end and I am confident that I have high marks in this class.
As I did not practice how to write a well structured essay, I was placed in the beginning class for writing when I first arrived in Minnesota. The reason why I left Korea to live for five months in Minnesota, is due to the fact that I had to study English. At that time, I felt desperate and eager to get in the higher class. Even though I was placed in an average English class in Korea, I had to start from the beginning in the United States. Nevertheless, I was in the beginner class, I started even harder than higher class students. Once I entered the beginner’s class, I felt a sense of regret. I regretted to have not studied as hard as I should have when I was in Korea. It was a blow to my ego to know that I had to start all the way at the bottom when my goal was to reach for the top. I was desperate to leave the beginner’s class and therefore, studied night and day to earn my rightful spot in the highest class. I entered the room with a heavy backpack slung on my shoulders. Feeling the weight of it left me feeling even more disheartened. I looked around the room to see ten seated students in front of me. As it was their first day of class, I could sense their anxiousness as they shyly greeted one another. They were highly anticipating their first day here in class, and seeing that eagerness, I began to think otherwise. There was no need for me to feel disappointed with myself. Instead, I needed what they had: enthusiasm. It was from that moment on that I decided to turn my negative perception on entering this beginner’s class, and work twice as hard as anyone around me to achieve my goal.
It was the summer of 2007, three months after I entered the beginner’s class, that I reached my goal and entered the higher English class. Two months later, I graduated with the higher English class. As I have successfully finished the four stages of E.S.L, I realized my writing skills cannot be improved all of a sudden: you have to be patient. There are steps involved in order to be an accomplished writer. Improving my writing skills was hard for me. Struggling every night with an essay and finding every definition of words with dictionary was a daily routine. I remember having my dictionary with me every day and took it everywhere I went. It was the equivalent of my cell phone. Every day I trained myself to be a better writer by just simply writing. As Walter Wellesley said, “There’s nothing to write. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein” (Walter Wellesley “Red” Smith). I would sit down in front of my computer and wrote of every thought that entered my mind. They could have been fragments, incomplete sentences, or even incomplete thoughts, I still typed it out. Every single night when I was struggling with my essays, this quote gave me a power to write a good essay. I have nothing to write but all I have to do is sit down in front of computer and open a vein.
Once I became a college student, there were two options for writing an essay: one is to get a good grade, the other one is try to be a good writer. Of course, it is better to have both choices but it was hard for me to do both since I am taking more than one English class. As I am an international student, writing an English essay that is 5 or 6 pages long was not easy for me. As I have taken English 1F and currently taking English 2F, I realize that even if I finish this class, I have to practice writing as hard as I did before. This class gave me the direction on how to write well, and to prepare me for my other classes. Writing classes in college gave me another reason as to why I have to practice writing. When I was in Minnesota studying English, one of the reasons why I practiced hard in writing was to get into the higher writing class. However, now as I am a college student, writing for me means more than just a class or a grade. I need good writing skills to work in the United States after I graduate from college.
When I look back at the beginning of my college life, my writing skills have changed tremendously. I take pride in my works and I am confident when I speak and write in English. I have come a long way from the beginning of my writing career. If I hadn’t embraced my imperfections and my disadvantage in English, I wouldn’t have had the will to push forward. The reason why I left Korea to live for five months in Minnesota, is due to the fact that I had to study English. At that time, I felt desperate and eager to get in the higher class. Final essay :Writing is your whole life - heekyung cho.
Writing is your whole life.

Most people think the writing is a kind of language parts. I think also the writing is a most common language parts. When people write something, they will entirely to find out what they thinking, what they looking at what they see and what it means. Moreover, what they want and what they fear. Therefore, the writing is included our thoughts and our identity. Writing is making sense of life. People work their whole life and perhaps they have made sense of one small area through writing. Don Delillo who is American novelist born in New York City said that writing is a form of personal freedom. It frees us from the mass identity we see in the making all around us. In the end, writers will write not to be outlaw heros of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to survive as individuals. Writing can also make person’s identity. Writing is similar with exploration. When people start writing, they start from nothing and after then learn as they go.
When I was young, I went to English academy. On that time, the white American teacher thought me English. He thought me speaking first. After then, he thought me writing. My first writing assignment is English diary on every day. That is terrible assignment for me, because I am worried about whole of my grammar skills and writing skills. After all, I could not write my first assignment. I just write “today is a great day.” That is my first English diary’s whole sentences. My teacher was really disappointment about my first assignment and he say something to me. He says “this is first step of your writing. If you want to study abroad in United States, you have to write a lot of paper about specific statements. Therefore, you must improve your writing skills for your future.” On that time, I did not understand why he said that to me. Moreover, I could not believe his saying, because I had not dream about study abroad in United States later on that time. However, after 10 years later the dream becomes real! I came in United States for studying! After I started studying in United States, I am really believed the teacher’s saying about writing.
I am really like talking with friend using English. However I hate writing. The writing is really hard part to me, because English is my second language and the grammar is not perfect. Therefore, when I was taking my first class about art history, professor gave to me a research paper about art history. On that time, I am not sure about what is research paper and I did not know how write research paper. I have nothing about research paper. I cried 3 days, because the research paper is really hard things to me. One day, I think about why I hate the writing and why I am afraid about writing all times. After all, I got the answer about that question by myself. The answer was talking or speaking is not required a perfect grammar. However, the writing is required a perfect grammar especially research paper. That’s why I am afraid about writing. I think many international students are afraid about writing, because the grammar skills or organize essay method is hard to them. Therefore, many people do not like writing about anything.
I was taking English 2-F class on this semester. This semester is my fourth semester in this university. So, before this semester whole of my papers have many mistakes. However, after taking this class, my English writing skills are improved a lot. During this class, I wrote 15 pages research paper that can be engaged to me a lot. After I wrote research paper, my frightened feeling about writing is decrease. So, I am really thanks about solve my problem through this class.
In conclusion, when we write something, the best important things are rid of frightened feeling about our grammar problem or writing skills, which the grammar is correct or not. Before check the grammar on paper, we have to try to find out our thinking and feeling. That is first things when we write something on paper. Writing about our thinking and feeling is best important things when we write. Moreover, whole kind of writing contains our thoughts. Therefore, the writing is same as our life.

Random thoughts about writing class (Shuhui Wang)
Time flies, I have been studied in American for one-year. As an international student, language problem may be the biggest block to me. I need listening skills to understand what teachers say in the class; I need speaking skills to let people know what I mean and I also need writing skills to do my homework or communicate with people online and so on. For those skills I take the writing class for one year. Looking back my one years’ study, I feel I have a lot to say, I want say what I got from that class and what kinds of problem I met during the writing class.
The first thing I got from my writing class is reading skill.
I feel that reading is a basic of writing, may be this is why we take a lot of reading practice during the writing class.
Well, I did not pay much attention on reading first because I thought I study all my courses in English, I practice my reading skill every day. I just remember that teacher taught us that did not writ your own country’s language as a note on your textbook otherwise you cannot improve your reading skills. That true, tell the truth, I did not like to follow this at the beginning, and I felt it was so tired to look the dictionary again and again for the same words when I was reading the articles. Why not just writing the meaning of the vocabulary one the book? So I only need to search the dictionary one time. Whatever, since writing the vocabulary’s meaning in own language is bad for my reading skills, I should avoid to do that. So during the past one year, when I met the new words, I will avoid to taking Chinese notes, I would rather searching the dictionary again and again. One day, when I was reading my psychology textbook, I suddenly realize that I can know the majority of the words in the chapter, at least I do not use dictionary as much as last semester! I am glad that my reading skills have been improved. Now it is easier to understand articles than before, so I beginning to enjoy the content of every article I read. I like to learn new things so I like to read science articles. I will be glad if teacher supply more science articles during class.
There is another reason that I am glad that my reading skill has been improved. I feel it is much more convince for me to communicate with local people by written words. Take my psychology class for example. My psychology professor is a good professor, she does not even use textbook in her class, because she has all the knowledge in her mind. She can teach us knowledge in her own word with many vivid cases. I can feel my classmates ---- the American students like her class very much. Because her class is interesting and not as boring as those teachers who just read power points in the class. But as the only foreign students in her class, I miss power points very much. At least, I can read power points during the class instead of trying my best to understand what my psychology teacher says just now! So I appreciate the reading skills I have been improved in my English class. With the reading skills I can read the psychology textbook easily by myself --- self-study at home.
The second thing I got from writing class is “Critical Thinking”. I feel that “Critical Thinking” is the most impressive phrase I learned from my writing class.
I remember at the beginning of this course, teacher told us “the course focuses more explicitly on critical thinking” which shows the weightiness of critical thinking.
This word sounds familiar but actually it is very abstract. At first, I am confusing about “what is critical thinking?” and “how to use critical thinking?” I won’t say that I have already totally understood “critical thinking”, I can only say, now I before I begin to write my articles, I will remind myself to using critical thinking. I will try to make my point more clearly, more comprehensive and let my thinking more logical. When I am reading other people’s articles, I will think about his or her points---can I agree with them? Even this point is comes from authority, it should be queried. All these are what I learned from “critical thinking”.
The third think I benefit from writing class is I know the importance of outline.
Well, I have been taught to write an outline before the main body. I knew it from primary school, but I rarely writing an outline. But during this writing class I found my teacher pay more attention on the logical of an essay. If I write in my old way---- started from main body, I probably lose myself in my own essay. Take my first Eng 1 F essay for example. I remembered teacher want us to compare our culture and the western culture. At first, I did not want to write the outline, I want to write the main body directly. But when I write to 4 or 5 pages, I lost. I could not sure whether or not I mentioned this point before. Finally, I gave up and I decided to write the outline first. Then I began to think what is the content of my country’s culture and what is included in American culture and so on. When I finished my outline, I felt I had already finished the half of the essay; the rest thing is to put details in my “sketch”.
Writing class teaches me a lot meanwhile he also gives me some 困惑。
When I was a primary student, I am afraid of writing long page essay, so do most of my classmates. Whenever I got the writing class’s syllabus, I will first check that how many essays we should write this semester and how many pages we every essay is needed for every essay. I believe most of my classmates and I prefer the short term essay, such as free writing, informal writing and so on.
But recently I found that some short term essay is not as easy as we thought. One of my friends which is taking news class this semester. At first, I really jealousy her because her teach require only 250 words in every essay. It is so great! Only 250 words! But things are quite different as I thought; her teacher let her use no more than 250 words to deeply express significance news. If she writes more than 250 words, the teacher will reduce her grads. This is why I often saw her try beat to cutting her essay. When I was afraid about the no less than 10 pages’ researcher paper, my friend also worried about write too many words.
10 pages essay is not a easy thing but when I need more details to extend my essay, I can use Internet; I can read books and I can interview some friends. But when I can only use 250 words in my essay, I may have no idea how to do it. Because it is hard to make a choice between two points that I think have the same importance. So I must know which point is more meaningful for this news. I think it is harder than search the internet to extend the essay.
Well the above is my random thought about my one-year writing class. Although I am in the end of the writing class, the knowledge I got from it will company me for a long time.

There is another reason that I am glad that my reading skill has been improved. I feel it is much more convince for me to communicate with local people by written words. Take my psychology class for example. My psychology professor is a good professor, she does not even use textbook in her class, because she has all the knowledge in her mind. She can teach us knowledge in her own word with many vivid cases. I can feel my classmates ---- the American students like her class very much. Because her class is interesting and not as boring as those teachers who just read power points in the class. But as the only foreign students in her class, I miss power points very much. At least, I can read power points during the class instead of trying my best to understand what my psychology teacher says just now! So I appreciate the reading skills I have been improved in my English class. With the reading skills I can read the psychology textbook easily by myself --- self-study at home.
The second thing I got from writing class is “Critical Thinking”. I feel that “Critical Thinking” is the most impressive phrase I learned from my writing class.
I remember at the beginning of this course, teacher told us “the course focuses more explicitly on critical thinking” which shows the weightiness of critical thinking.
This word sounds familiar but actually it is very abstract. At first, I am confusing about “what is critical thinking?” and “how to use critical thinking?” I won’t say that I have already totally understood “critical thinking”, I can only say, now I before I begin to write my articles, I will remind myself to using critical thinking. I will try to make my point more clearly, more comprehensive and let my thinking more logical. When I am reading other people’s articles, I will think about his or her points---can I agree with them? Even this point is comes from authority, it should be queried. All these are what I learned from “critical thinking”.
The third think I benefit from writing class is I know the importance of outline.
Well, I have been taught to write an outline before the main body. I knew it from primary school, but I rarely writing an outline. But during this writing class I found my teacher pay more attention on the logical of an essay. If I write in my old way---- started from main body, I probably lose myself in my own essay. Take my first Eng 1 F essay for example. I remembered teacher want us to compare our culture and the western culture. At first, I did not want to write the outline, I want to write the main body directly. But when I write to 4 or 5 pages, I lost. I could not sure whether or not I mentioned this point before. Finally, I gave up and I decided to write the outline first. Then I began to think what is the content of my country’s culture and what is included in American culture and so on. When I finished my outline, I felt I had already finished the half of the essay; the rest thing is to put details in my “sketch”.
Writing class teaches me a lot meanwhile he also gives me some 困惑。
When I was a primary student, I am afraid of writing long page essay, so do most of my classmates. Whenever I got the writing class’s syllabus, I will first check that how many essays we should write this semester and how many pages we every essay is needed for every essay. I believe most of my classmates and I prefer the short term essay, such as free writing, informal writing and so on.
But recently I found that some short term essay is not as easy as we thought. One of my friends which is taking news class this semester. At first, I really jealousy her because her teach require only 250 words in every essay. It is so great! Only 250 words! But things are quite different as I thought; her teacher let her use no more than 250 words to deeply express significance news. If she writes more than 250 words, the teacher will reduce her grads. This is why I often saw her try beat to cutting her essay. When I was afraid about the no less than 10 pages’ researcher paper, my friend also worried about write too many words.
10 pages essay is not a easy thing but when I need more details to extend my essay, I can use Internet; I can read books and I can interview some friends. But when I can only use 250 words in my essay, I may have no idea how to do it. Because it is hard to make a choice between two points that I think have the same importance. So I must know which point is more meaningful for this news. I think it is harder than search the internet to extend the essay.
Well the above is my random thought about my one-year writing class. Although I am in the end of the writing class, the knowledge I got from it will company me for a long time.
Hard works, Writing (Yeajeong Lee)
For me, writing is very difficult one. Actually, I like to study math and science thing, so history and some literature department subject are hard to study to me, because there is no right or wrong answers; however, math and science have very clear answers for each problem, and it makes me interesting and exciting. No one think that writing has answer. Actually, it does not. Writing is a way to express your thought on your paper. No one can say this writing is wrong or right. Maybe, this result made me very complicated. Like math and science, if I know the right answer, even if I did wrong, I will do it to get the right answer, so there is a lot of way to get the right answer like formulae. I also believe that writing also have a lot of way to express my opinion, but it just has my thought and no clear answers. My professor also told me everyone’s thought is right. Every time, I should have strong opinion for my writing subject and write for my thought for long paper, so, how this writing can be easy to me for every time.
Truly, the most difficult thing is, I do not know that how to start my writing. I feel so hard to start it. If I have to start my writing assignment, always cursor was just twinkling on my laptop. There were no words, sentence and etc. Sometimes, I did spend so many times to start it like 1 or 2 hours and sometimes, more than this. Every time, I did put some words or question and then, removed again and again. I knew that I should have a good and clear introduction, it will easy to write next paragraph down. Another thing is that I always think that what makes this essay more interesting for the beginning, because my professor always told us start you’re writing with some interesting idea. I could not write just some general idea for beginning, I needed to write some specific thing which can make people’s interest and it should show my strong opinion for this essay like what I will write and my thought about this subject. I need to show my clear opinion for writing. In fact, still now, I feel little bit afraid how to start it, however, I believe that I feel better than the beginning of this semester, because I did put a lot of efforts to make my writing more interesting and think a lot for the introduction of each writing.

When I took the English 1F class during last semester, spring 2008, I did not feel really hard to search for some materials for my writing, so I did not need to spend a lot of time to search it, because there were not too hard subjects for paper assignment. In this semester, however, English 2F class, it needs so many works to do it. My professor gave us more specific subjects; so, I have to find many articles by using Internet, library books, newspaper and etc. It took a lot of time and was hard to find some contents that I want to use for my writing, so, the beginning of this semester; I did not use a lot of articles for my first writing, because of this difficulty. On the other hand, when I did work on my third paper which was the research paper, I put and used a lot of materials. I feel little bit comfortable to find and use it. When I filled out the bibliography, I could see how I find a lot of materials and did use it for just one paper. I was so surprised, because I remember the first time; even I found some articles, I did not know that how to use this quote for my writing. At that time, my professor wrote some comments down on my first draft, “this quote is not suitable for this paragraph.” Now, I feel free from this difficulty. I think I am still not perfect to use some quotes for my writing, but I see my development from the first time. This development makes me to have encouraged doing writing work.

The Final Essay: What I Have Learned in English Courses 1F and 2F (Seungbae LEE)
I have learned the skill to write an essay and research paper, furthermore, how to write a references and formatting bibliography etc. for 8 months by taking English 1F and 2F. Also, I have posted several blogs while I’m taking English 2F course. It is surprising that I have written many essays research paper and my opinions in English. Also, I’m very satisfied that my professor praised me of my English grammar and structure of essays improved.
Actually, since I took English 1F course, I was annoyed with writing essays. That’s because I had to write it in English, and my English skill was not good. Also, I have not written many essays even in Korean language, and I hated to write. My linguistic ability of even Korean was also bad; for example, it took too much time for me to read any articles and understand what it means. Whenever writing assignments (Essay, Research paper etc.) were given to me, I really hated to do that, because first of all brainstorming and choosing topic was very hard. When I started to write, I was very worried about how to start with the introduction. After that, furthermore, adjusting to the structure (introduction, main contents, and conclusion) and correcting grammar mistakes really make me annoyed.
Even though I didn’t like to write an essay, there were several skills I have learned. The biggest one is making an outline. Since I take English 1F, I always started an essay with the outline. When I was taking ESL course before English 1F, there were some Essay assignments, but I didn’t format the outline of any essays. The outline was very helpful to get contents and idea which do not deviate from the topic of the paragraph. Due to the outline, my several essays were well organized and graded A- which is my best score of all essay scores.
Second one I learned is bibliography. Bibliography protects us from committing plagiarism. First time, in English 1F, I didn’t know what the plagiarism and bibliography mean and how to make bibliography. Whenever I wrote an essay, I committed plagiarism many times. I used some ideas from the internet, and didn’t make any quotation mark and the research source. Also, I didn’t illustrate any graph or photo material in my essays. When I’m in English 2F course, however, I used a lot of graphs and photos and more ideas in my essays, of course, formatting bibliography.
It is the creative idea that I never forgot during writing an essay or blogs. The creative idea is essential for expressing our own characteristic opinion. Also, the professor considers it very important and it can have the great effect on the score of essay. The professor praised me of the second way for the corporal punishment in essay #2. However, it was very difficult for me to make the creative idea. Creative idea should be very characteristic and the one about which any other people didn’t think.
To get more creative writing for the other subjects, I should read many articles, summarize them and write my opinion about the articles briefly. For example, if I have read the articles about prohibiting capital punishment, I will have to write pros or cons and logical reason and then, take a solution of which I think. Then, it can help me practice writing in English and express my own characteristic opinion.
Though I finish English 1F and 2F, there will be so much writing works in the other subjects for the next semester. Still, I should make my writing skill more improved for carrying out any other writing work. Although writing is very annoying, it is very important for our future. Most tasks we take in our society are writing, for example, students have to finish the most of their assignments by writing an essay. For the present, it should occupy the most of my life.

If we keep fail in one place, our depression will be expanded in seconds. It’s because the failure remind us our weakness continuously and then we will deny ourselves unavoidably. Similarly, we prevail the fear and prove our abilities, and we will gain confidence. Once we finish or achieve success from the thing which we think we cannot do, we will suddenly find out that we are capable. We are much more powerful than we thought.

The Final:Writing is a Mixed Piece of Music-Quincy Shen
For me, writing is a kind of mixed music. The prelude is always soft, slow and concise, as forewords in writings. The body of writings combines many pieces of complex, undulate and explicit music, such as light music, country music, rock music and soul music. In the body part, you can insert the climax part, and reduplicate it, or just put it into the ending. Some pieces of music have the same endings as their preludes; listeners would feel relaxing and mitigating after deeply throb from the culminating point. Melodies, sounds and tones may change a lot, but the purpose will never change.
Why I say it is a piece of music? Not a whole? Because I can never know what the exactly number of words I would write into my writings. The prerequisite is that, I really want to write, instead of pooling words together in order to reach the goal. Unfortunately, this harmful tendency happened several times when I completely have no inspirations about what I should write, and have no or just a little interested on the topics which were given and were required for promoting our higher writing techniques and skills. Therefore, in the process of writing, I was annoying and tired; but then, especially when I finished it, I felt happiness of achievement.
For international students who have learnt ESL and English 1F, English 2F was extremely a big step. To be honest, it was the first time I wrote a full, formal research paper; I was totally crumble down at that moment, and innocent hoped not to suffer it again, not only because the restricted universal topic. However, the main point is, I need to spend a lot of time on it, to search and read a lot; besides, I had no idea and no orientation. The reason caused my low grades in writing parts was the limitations of English words and experiences. Lots of grammar mistakes and many inappropriate words negatively influenced my writings; nevertheless, English 2F was a godsend chance that definitely provided some useful and necessary skills for my further working and learning in modern society. There is no doubt that companies and enterprises prefer to employ people who are confidence, patient, creative, and with good reasoning and have clear thoughts. All of above advantages can be promoted by learning and practice.
It was hard to write an acceptable article. It was also hard to create a perfect music that can be accepted by different kinds of people who have different tastes. Every article required in English 2F class has limitations of English words, grammars, numbers of words, articles and formal styles; they restricted my originally plentiful imaginations. Besides, other impacts such as the clamorous environments, other assignments and depressed emotions will cause negative influences on the quantities of writings. Thereby self-control and self-maturity are quite important for people who want to write a good article. If you want to represent an idea, be sure to stand neutral, and to use those ideas which have been proved and been accepted. Not everyone can easily be a significant individuality, to rage in the world full of controversies and competitions, and finally success.
After have recognized so many styles of writing, I preferred fiction. I even never wrote fictions in my writing classes, just because I prefer the relaxing and enjoyment produced from imagination. Journal writing is not so hard, it helps me to remember things happened and things I need to do in the future. Blog posting improves my abilities to read, to understand and punctual. Essay is the most common writing I did, and it let me know how to use correct grammars. Research paper teaches me the most, besides the skills I learnt from other styles, it also teaches me the formal format, the clear presentation and the proper way to decide and support ideas. Argumentation practices my thoughts’ flexibilities and diversifications. Unexpectedly, there still have some abilities I might need to learnt, such as using proper way to translate ancient writings into accurate English words, or other formal forms of writings. However, I have already learnt all the possible skills and important things I need so far from classes.
Writing is a specific art since it has several styles; and it is a science as you would use different techniques and skills. By far, my purpose was to be a good writer, as the emotion was sublimated, and the patience was trained; the necessary things needed to be a good writer were still concealed from me. In other words, things like to write a lot, to read a lot, and to be specific are all necessary to be a good writer; we knew them did not mean we could achieve. Otherwise, besides the talent, based on experiences from good writers, expending vocabulary; using good grammar; planning and being well-informed are all necessary things to be a good writer. And the most important thing international student should concentrate on is to practice.
My hearts vibrated to the charming piece of music’s stirring melodies; a good writing should like this, which can penetrate into my spirit, and can leave deep impressions on us. More than one year’s learning and practicing, I paid a lot, but I received more. Maybe I will not learn such kind of English classes again; anyway, things I learnt will be frequently used in my further studying. Thereby, what is the following unfinished melody of this mixed piece of music? Just leave it to me, because there is no ending for writing.
