How time flies! It is the time to end of this semester, also is the end of my freshman year. This is my final essay of my English course, also is my final essay in my freshman year. After one year study, my writing is improving. I think writing is very important to me. It not only is a tool of study, but also is an expression of myself.
Writing is a good way to express what I thought. Blog posting is my favor way to express my feeling and idea through the internet. Before I came to America to study, I have a blog written by Chinese. I like posting the comment after I saw an interesting movie, the feeling after I met someone, the strange idea of I did the daydream etc. Posted everything what I want freely. Blog posting is a kind of writing which is most interesting. You don’t have care how long you wrote or whether it has grammar mistakes. Sometimes you will see comments leave by other bloggers. Those comments are more truly than people talk face to face because you will be more honest without seeing people’s countenance. Sometimes, you can make friends with the blogger who have the same topic or ideas with you.
Writing diary is a good way to record my life. I started to write my diary from ten years ago. I think diary is a good way to record my diary life. You might think photograph also is the easier to record life. But one day when you look at an old picture, you might remember what was happening when you took this snapshoot, you probably forgot the feeling of that moment. The only way you won’t forget the feeling is write it down. As a girl, I have a lot of secret that I don’t want to tell anyone, I will write in my diary instead of keep them in my heart. Even after twenty years, I had already feel despair of my life, I believe I will find my hope by reading the diary which I wrote when I was young.
Writing is the safest way to express things to other. We always face to some bad situations to make our speaking more mistakes. Such as when we said something without thinking, we may easy to say something wrong and can’t take it back, because we had already said it out. Or when we say something in formal occasion, we will make many mistakes if feel shy or nervous. Bur you can correct your writing many times before you show it to others. That’s why writing is safest way to express way to express things. I am the kind of person easy to get nervous, so I prefer to write down what I what to say on paper. Also, I prefer to write E-mail than video chat when I contact with my friends. I think writing is the best way to express my meaning.
Writing is good way to improve my English. When I am wiring, especial in formal writing, I have to consider the words and grammars which I chose whether correct. In the process of I was choosing the word in the article, I will learn more vocabularies. I will check my grammar after I finished every essay. Every time I check the essay, just like one more time practices. I believe the more I practice, the fewer mistakes I got.
Writing is an important skill in college. Most academic course required to writing some papers. If you want to get a good grade in your course, at least you should good at writing paper. Of course writing is not the only thing you should do well when you want to get good grade, but it must be one of the important parts.
After this essay, my essay will be graded as any other native students’ in future. All my academic writing will be graded by my idea, my knowledge about the course, not the grammar mistake any more. If I want someone correct my essay’s mistake, I have to go to writing center. Compare I just been America, my writing had already improved a big step. But actually how far is the gap between mine and theirs? I think I still have a long way to go. Anyway, writing is very important to me. I like writing. Writing will be part of my life, I will always like it no matter in Chinese or English.

somtimes when i think i think i cannot do something, someone will encourage me and said: try it, even you fail, at least you tried it. sometimes i think if i know i can't do it , why i should waste time to try. sometime "try" may make things succeed, but sometimes may not. some people may think you don't "try" because you are lazy. for this reason, someone will try do something which they actually thought they cannot do it. i think what their behavior are lost themselve. so, be honest to yourself, if you think you can't ,you are right.

Fear of the “Blank Page”(Svetlana)
Familiar feeling when you have mass of ideas and projects in your head. It seems like those ideas flying in the air, but when you sit down to express your thoughts, and you see blank, white, like snow, sheet of paper you get very queer feeling of fear… What is it? Fear of the “blank page”? Sometimes I can sit for hours with clean page lying in front of me, especially, when volume of my written work has to be impressive.
Usually I got that feeling because I have too many ideas and none of them have a clear structure. It seems that all I have in my head is a mess. To struggle such a problem, I start write all of these ideas down, and then clean them up by adding new and eliminating ones which are not suitable to my thesis. By doing it I clarify outline of my future “masterpiece” :))))

we should try to step back from our compulsive need for more of everything and get in touch with the basic valus that are the real point of our lives.
It’s still right that some people may pursue possession from materials. Although some people think that pursuit possession is a bad life style, it let people lose the self-value. In my point of way, different people have different sell-value in terms like spirit and material. Personally speaking, I grow up in a perfect family and I have never experienced any difficulties and barriers, that’s why sometimes I can’t understand people who pursue the material possessions seriously. To me, happiness is the possession that I want to pursue in my life, no matter what kind of goal and achievement that I want to reach is to find happiness. In real world, it’s inevitable that people may meet some satisfaction and difficulties in life. What I am insisting on is to standing on my own side and position. In people’s heart, there is a small space that is not open for others, sometimes people could hide it very well, but sometimes they even cannot realize they have such private place. However, people’s behavior and thought could let out what and where the small secret place is. The shape and location of the small place are different, so people have different characters, like some people are shy to express their true feelings; some people have no sense of responsibilities to do anything, some people are timid and some people are over confident. First of all, I want to say thank you to Professor Bai. You are a really nice teacher that’s why I chose your courses from English 1F to English 2F. Though these two courses, I’ve accomplished my basic academic writings and I will try to go much further in my academic years.
The language is the root of writing, it is the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. Usually, we start to learn language since we were born, which is called our native language. The native language is the easiest language for people to learn, because we grew up in that language circumstances. People around us are keeping communication with that kind of language, like parents, and we use the language to obtain knowledge from schools in our own countries. Consequently, which language are you good at that is depended on which language circumstances are you usually in.
As an international student in an English country, we ought to communicate with others use the official language of the country. Though English is just a second language for us, we have to use it in the academic activities and the daily life. We try to alter our language habits, however we still always feel in defect of vocabularies, especially in the academic fields. For instance, we can go to supermarkets and ask things which we need, but we may not describe the definition of some professional words in our major course by using our own words. Therefore, presentations in the classes become the optimum way for practice the language and the courage of giving speeches in front of the public. In the processes of learning English, we make efforts everyday, listening to the lectures, taking notes and doing the assignment. Nevertheless, writing paper is quite a long and painful task for most of international students. We often complain about it and said, “That’s impossible for me to reach such a tremendous number of pages even using my own language. That’s totally such a nightmare. ” Generally, we would take several hours even a whole night to finish a paper, although which is not so perfect or full of mistakes in our professors’ eyes. At least, we’ve tried our best to do it. I still remember the first time I wrote my first essay in the English 1F class. Because of lacking of practices, I used roughly 6 or 8 hours to finish it though it was only 4-5pages. At that time, I had nothing in my mind just an empty blank; and only at that time, I realized that English is not so easy to improve, I met the bottlenecks. Enlarging my vocabularies is the first thing I should do and I then I begin to notice the new words I’ve met everyday. Thus, I finished the first research paper in English 1F. I’ve admitted, that is an unforgettable experience in my life; combining painful and happiness. The process is really suffering, but the result is quite satisfactory in my mind. No matter what kind of grade I’ve got, at least, that is my own product by using my wisdom; that’s the initial thing which I want to emphase. Fortunately, after accomplishing so many papers, 15-page-paper means no big deal and 3 or 4 page essay means nothing. I think that’s the good news for me and always the professors, since I can produce something not only in larger quantities, but also in better qualities.
In addition, that’s not so easy for a nonnative speaker to understand a language as well as a native speaker, because there are so many obstacles. However, I always believe that proverb,” No gains without pains”.

What i did this semester? (Avish)
My major is business administration. In this major, there are many different courses I have to learn. In my third semester at Long Island University C.W.Post, I took five courses. English 2F is one of the courses of these five. In this course assignment are given regularly to all students. All assignments are of writing essays and the research paper. To write those essays and research paper, all students need to search relative articles to the topic and to read read and read, to fill out the numbers of sheets of paper in Microsoft word. In this semester I wrote two essays of 6 to 8 pages and one research paper of 12 pages. Whatever I did in this class, I had never done before in my life. I had written many essays, but none of them, is not longer than 3 or 4 pages. After working on all the essays this semester, I learned many things.
On the very first day of the class, when the professor Dr. leslie bai gave the class index paper and explained that all students will need to write two, 5 pages long essays and one, 8 pages long research paper, I was gone mad and I was thinking that how I will write this many long papers. Trust me I had never written this much long papers before. In the beginning of this semester I was thinking that it’s going to be very difficult for me and I will not pass this class. I was really got too much tension because besides writing those essays, students were also needed to post their blogs on internet every week, after reading given articles. I was thinking “how am I gonna write number of sheets of paper in this semester.” At that time I was Zero in my mind to write and read papers.
After 1 week, first big assignment to write essay of 6 pages was given. The requirement of that essay was also to use visual text in the essay, which I had not even seen before. When I started to work on that essay, I open Microsoft word new BLANK page to fill it out with HUNDRED of words. At that time, the first problem strokes that “HOW TO START THE ESSAY AND WHAT TO WRITE???” I was not getting any idea to put in the paper and I got confused. So I open internet explorer and search for the materials related to my essay’s topic and read different articles for the whole day and at night I started to write essay, but still it was difficult for me to begin the essay. For that essay to get good beginning I changed first paragraph more than three times. I took more than five days to finish that essay and however I fill out 7 pages. I worked hard on the first essay and after I finished first essay, trust me I was feeling very happy that I did it. I worked hard on first essay, so I was hoping that I will get “A” grade. But when result came I was got “B” grade. At that time I was little bit disappointed with my grade, not with professor’s grading. I was feeling that I did less afford and so I got “B” grade. However I encourage myself by thinking that there are two more essay and I will get “A” in both essay.
When second essay assigned to write, I was quite confident for that essay. I was again stroked with the same problem, that “HOW TO START THE ESSAY AND WHAT TO WRITE???” But this time, I manage it in good way and I give a good beginning to my essay. After I got comments on my first essay, I knew all my mistakes that I should not commit in second essay and I did it. For the second essay I worked hard on reading and organizing the ideas in proper way. As I worked hard for second essay, it showed up in my essay’s grades and I got “A-“. I was hoping “A” grade but I just got 1 step back of “A”.
Later on, the final research paper was assigned to all students. We were working step wise for the research paper, as the professor teach us. Because this was the first time all students were going to write research paper. I was quite nervous for this task. But this time I knew more about writing skill and as well as I was confident. All students prepare for research paper step wise, as the professor inform. So everyone prepared their outline before they start writing research paper. Because of outline it became very easy for me to start research paper and also to organize the research paper. The only problem I got for the research paper was to find the related information and to read it and understand it. However even I didn’t got more problem, I work very hard on research paper. I spend continuous 3 day without getting out of home to make my research paper perfect. Plus, I spend more time to find articles, preparing outlines, surveying, etc. When I finished the research paper, I realized that, in the beginning of semester I was thinking that I will not learn anything in English 2F class and I was thinking to switch it. However, I didn’t switch it and continued. But, after I wrote 2 BIG essays and FIRST research paper of my life, I feel that I was wrong. I would never learn all those things which I learn this semester, if I would have switched English 2F class. Let’s go back to research paper, after I worked hard on research paper and submitted; when the result came I was got “A” grade.
While working on two essays and a research paper, I learned many things like:
• How to prepare outline.
• How to use visual text (Images) in the essay.
• How to implement other’s articles ideas in own writing.
• How to prepare bibliography.
• Improved vocabulary.
• Improved reading skills.
• Became capable to write more than 10 pages.
• Came to know about library’s databases and learn how to use it.
• Learn about North Asian people.
• How to write sentences in essays. (How to join two sentences and how and where to write supportive statements.)
• After working on 2 essays about differences of culture and religions, came to know about many things, which are happening and existed before around me.
• Learn a lot about a marital life of a man and a woman, after writing research paper that might become useful to me in future.
Besides all this, I came to know about the competition in which I can take part, hoping to win, because that competition includes international student as competitor, whom I can compared my English skills. This competition gives a chance to the students to prove their writings. Lastly I have received many skills and guidance to improve my writing, which is going to be very useful, not only in completion of my major but also in my professional life.

Once I have got a text message from my friend after winter vacation. I think it was January of 2008. She stayed here during the holidays and I came back from my country. Her message was about greetings, however, I could not understand some words from her message, because she used too many “pop words”. She used a lot of “ ’ ” for shorter form of a word and I could feel African-American’s word from it. Even I didn’t know that kind words but I sent back a reply message with full of “ ’ ”. I don’t remember what I wrote maybe it did not make sense to her. I don’t know why I did such a stupid behavior. But, now, I realized why I did like that. It is because of pop culture. Maybe, I didn’t want to be regarded as a old-fashioned person. I definitely wanted to be shown " I am cool". It is funny to remember it but I could experience word and its cultural power.

In the class, we watched a movie called “Transamerica”, the movie made me fall in struggling with myself. Bree, I don’t know how I can identify him. Actually, he is a man in physiology, but he tried his best to pretend a woman. I think I should feel disgusted if I saw that a man tried to be a woman. However, I didn’t feel uncomfortable, and even I felt sympathized with him. I am confusing that in this case whose fault it is. He cannot choose which gender he can be. Is God’s mistake to create him as a man? In this world, there are lots of people suffered in this kind of problems. I think only we can do is to understand them and give them conform.

Truth in My Heart

It seems like every girl loves her father more than her mother, because usually different genders will be easier attracted each other. Personally speaking, until I was 7 year old, I wasn’t really getting along with my parents, especially my father. Every weekend, I look out from window to expect my father’s coming. Unfortunately the person that I only saw is always just my mother. Although my mother always brought many gifts those are from my father, I still feel sad and disappointed. So the memory in my mind about my father is just a small period of time. Now, I have grown up, my father always tries his best to satisfied me by different things, and I clearly know that I really love my father in my heart, but there is still a psychological barrier between us. Everytime when I want to call my father, I will be hesitated to think that what should I say. Many reasons in my heart deeply obstacles me to open my heart to my father, several days ago ,my best friend talked to me after I told her about my secret. She said: “ people will not know that you think if you don’t open you mouth, Slience is not the way to express even to your closest person, sometimes just say “ I love you” to your father, the relationship between you will be better than now.” I was impressed by her words. And I told myself to open my heart to father, no matter what kind of feeling I have to him should be expressed by myself.

Importance Of Writing, Mayur Raniya.
Generally speaking, writing is one of the best ways to express yourself. A person can create his own identity in the society. People write to convey motion through expressions, to express themselves on what is happening around the world and their life and what they expect to achieve in the future. Sometimes we are not able to say what we may feel but we can spread our thoughts or ideas just through simple words. I believe writing is one of the most important tools we have. It creates connections within people and distributes our points worldwide. A person can be in the US and post his/her opinion online and someone on the other end of the world can read it and give their opinion about it. It creates a connection and understanding between everyone in the world.
Writing is a great way to save history. We have books from years back filled with writing. Those books contain our history, tell us stories, and tell us about life back in time. If we did not have those books we really would not have any source that would take us back in time and help us understand how things were.
As for me, writing has helped me improve in English. I am able to see my mistakes when they are on paper but when I talk I do not know I am making errors. Therefore, writing has helped me improve. I would like to share my own experience to the readers that when I graduated from India, I decided to get education in USA and I was confident by that time but I didn’t think that I may face some problems with my writing skills. I always hated writing. Writing was the biggest problem for me. I always asked my friends for help in writing my papers or homework in India. In fact, they used to do my homework and solve other papers related to writings. When I came to USA and I saw the education system over here, I kept blaming myself that why did I come here? Because, the professors here give a lot of writing assignments to do just to make the students more aware of the world and get more and more knowledge from it. Whenever I tried to do my English projects, I was always blank in my mind and always wonder that how am I going to finish this project? and after sometime I started getting more and more ideas and I couldn’t stop myself to write more and more about the regarding topic. Now, I feel better and more confident by the end of this semester and I really appreciate the class professor Dr. Leslie Bai who organized the whole course very well to improve our knowledge as well as our reading and writing skills. She gave us various interesting topics to deal with and we did lot of readings, writings and research on them. I still remember I had many sleepless nights to make my ideas on the regarding essays more clear and supportive and that helped me a lot in gaining deep knowledge about such things like gay and lesbians rights in the society, women rights, women position in the 21st century and much more that we didn’t know about in depth.
Finally, I would like to conclude by saying that having good writing skills is a blessing. Although I still regret that I didn’t learn much English because I did my high schooling from India in my mother language but after coming here I have and still improving my English skills. I am sure that within in few years I would master the language. Writing is the fastest and the easiest way of improving language skill and the most important feature about writing is that it is the best way of communication especially for the people who are far away from home like me. I keep in touch with my friends and family by online chatting and various social networking websites. I can write to my friends or parents anytime I want to.

I strongly agree with this sentence and I love it. Everyone doesn't like to be defeated. Neither do I. Since I was young, I really hated to be a loser in any field. I always thought defeat was shame. Talking is one of human desires. A lot of people find a pleasure from a conversation with other people. But some people, like me, do not enjoy it. Well… I am a poor talker. From a casual conversation with unfamiliar people to an academic presentation, I always feel uncomfortable about talking. Because I know my bad talking skill such as awkward, twisted sentences, too little voice plus fear about people, I usually keep a silence. Even I like to not to talk, however, I like to communicate with people by my own way, writing.
To me, speaking is a shield if writing is a spear. I am a reserved person and honestly I have a fear about people. It affects when I talk. If I meet a situation to talk I find myself cannot express what I am thinking. My brain becomes a blank paper and my mouth gets start to stuck. Then, finally, I will say, “Mm…Well…Mm…” with a little trembling voice. How foolish those “M~m~” are. Thus, I usually try to be a good listener when people are saying rather than talking because I think not to talk is the way I can protect myself from becoming a fool.
On the other hand, writing is the way I can express myself without any hesitations. I do not know why but I feel cozy feelings when I write than to talk. Even I can assert my opinion and criticize something. Yes, I can! Even it is indirect way than speaking I can say my own word. That is the way to express my thinking. Moreover, writing gives a pleasure to communication with people instead of a direct verbal conversation.
Sometimes I find how I am a big mouth in my writing. I like to post blog postings on my blog. It is usually about very trifling things. when I start to write I cannot stop. Once I put around 20 postings on one day. I think I may find a proxy satisfaction from writing rather than my poor speaking. For getting along with people, for communicating with people and to for myself I write.
Writing is a shout in a silence to me. At the beginning of this semester, I was really worried about English 2F course. I knew well my poor English skills. So, I was afraid to write long length of papers such as a research paper. 10 pages… It means I have to fill out 10 pages with my lack of word. Moreover, critical thinking was not my major, however, this course was designed for several sensitive social issues with critical thinking and it was a big challenge for me. I always try to hide my opinion as possible as I can and I try to put myself to a listener’s position. But as follow as the course was progressed, I felt a desire of writing about those sensitive issues. I filled out 3 pages, 5 pages and finally 10 pages of blank papers with my thinking. It is amazing to me because if someone requests to me “ Say 10 minutes about your opinion” then I cannot say anything. I think God is fair, because he gave me a joy of writing instead of poor speaking skills.

I believe that people awalys want what they do not have. What lies behind my reasoning is that human nature is insatiable. Greed is innate to human beings. For example, small children will cry and fight over toys, food, and attention from adults. I think that this behavior is not learned, but innate. In additon, advertisements show products with new designs and functions so these advertisements imply that buying new products will make them happy and content. Generally, as the old saying goes, "Greed has no limits."

My experience and journey of English study Chongchong Que
As the fall semester is slowly coming to an end. I do not know how to express my feeling at this moment. I can just feel my heart beating so quick. Actually, English writing baffle me all the time, but the happy thing is ENG 2F taught me a lot. I would sincerely like to thank my professor Bai and classmates.
It seems that writing skill is extremely difficult to master for us. Here, I would like to talk some personal experience about how to improve it.
Firstly, you need to think in English as if you were a thoroughly native speaker, and then write down what you've come up with. In my opinion, it's the best way to learn a second language.
Next, do not stop reading. Making Reading one of your hobbies can be a great help Since those articles and books make you see the way in which those native speakers think and express.
Thirdly, I find that to speak with and listen to those natives can also be helpful, for the written english is more like the spoken one in terms of syntax than what you thought it should have been. It means that the most fundamental part of writing is to write down what you want to say.
Finally, those quotes and poets are great sentences, but bear in mind while you use them that much of them were composed in some abnormal ways of sentence structure, which can be different from those we run into each day. If becoming a newspaper editor or a professional writer is not your dream, it is not necessarily appropriate to imitate the ways those poets and authors do.

I don't know, I figured that English is more like an art, like symphony or a movie that can't be understood through the description of another person.This might sound gross but it's true, you have to be there, try to feel the words and grasp the rules. Just like how you've learned to say your first Chinese words.
Before I came here, I remember, there's this one summer when I was at the most boring and wandering age, 22 maybe. I had nothing to do all day except suffering from the hot weather during my vacation. I picked up this VOA tape of my friend's which was covered up with dust. In the following days I spend much time listening to that tape, for it was what I then thought the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. There were news about the wars in middle-eastern Asia and instructions of making tofu out of beans. My favorite part was the story of cowboys in the western desserts of America. From what I remember, I chewed each every pronunciation as if they were strawberry gums, they were perfect. I guess I could fall in love for another language such as French or Spanish just like so. There's a whole wide world hiding behind the scene consisted with letters and words, there's history, there's culture, there are pounding hearts. The language itself is alive. That summer is what I call the real gateway to English learning, and that tape is the best English tape I ever owned.
Later I became addicted to movies and rock music, I guess they are part of the reason why I somehow managed the language in an invisible way. After all, I embarked on a American journey and continue with English learning.
Tempus fugit, although, it's the end of my Eng 2F class, but I believe it's the new beginning of my English writing journey. Everything I remembered in the class that will help me a lot in the future, whatever I am a student or working.

My experience in writing (Bin Ye)
I feel ashamed that this semester is coming to end, but I’m very glad that I have learned a lot. Especially, writing skills is a big part that I have improved in ENG2F class. Besides the useful wiring skills, learning form ENG2f class also let me change and improve the active attitude to writing. Now wring is no longer a burdern and challenge in my college study
I’m an international student comes from Shanghai China, English is my second language. When I was in high school, the English writing that I have learned was so basic, but it’s still difficult for me. I suffered from vocabulary and grammar all the time. I don’t like reciting, reading and writing. Personally I know that these are the reasons make me feel uncomfortable in writing. Because we all know that “practice makes more perfect”, once I hate writing, I will never have the chance to improve it. However, last year I came to America to take university. The environment that I lived in was fully surrounding with English. My life was naturally changed. Every day I what I am speaking and listening is all in English. It seems like environment around me forced me to learn English.
To be honest, I don’t like reading and writing. But in English2F class the reading and writing were assignment, I have to read articles and finish the essays. In fact, I always strongly believe that reading article can fulfill my experience, and I am a person who always curious about unknown world. But, the essay really annoys me when the professor asked for 5to7-page essay, I never wrote so many pages paper before and I don’t know what I should to write to satisfy professor’s requirement. I always look at the screen of my laptop and the new page of Microsoft word, and I did nothing in a long time. Finally, I remembered that professor said the outline of the essay is very significant. Then, I wrote the outline and began to write according to the outline. It is amazed that I finished the 6-page paper and the feeling of achievement made me excited. After several essays, I think the feeling of achievement was stronger than suffering. No matter what grade I received, it made me proud. Especially, in Eng2F class I did the first research paper in my life and suffered whole two nights. Though I didn’t get a very good grade, I really found that my writing has been improved a lot. Also, I realized that the skill of the writing can be one of the most important skills in the university, which will be tightly connected with my academic course.
Everything I learned this semester will be part of my life. For example, I found that outline is very important process of any articles. A complete structure of the outline can proved to be a good article. Personally, I usually spend 30 minutes to think about how to make a good outline before I begin to write. In my opinion, outline plays a main role in essay. What impressed me best is that I can finish the essay efficiently with a well-organized outline. Especially, the topic and the statement made in outline remind me what I have to write to support the statement. In a word, outline is really important process of any articles.
Simultaneously, reading is extremely important if people want to write a professional article. I have to read as much as more articles to improve my vocabulary and write skills. I usually copy some beautiful sentences in my own note book. Also, I can learn how the writer uses examples and express their own opinion to support the statement in reading. Something are more practical is that the transition used by writer in articles. This is really helpful for me when I am writing. Transition can make my essay more consistent. Actually, in my opinion, reading is not interesting but it is really helpful. Also reading can enrich my knowledge.
But, why I write? I write for what? In my memory, what I am wiring just for give assignment for finishing the course what professor asked for. But finally, something changed my mind. I just remember the professor Lesiebai said in class: “When you met something really annoy you, but at that time you didn’t or you can’t say anything. Then, you can write. When you met something really delight you, also, you can write.” I thought I can write when I was sad or happy. Therefore, for me I think writing not just an assignment I have to finish after class, I also can write something I want to complain or something I delight me.
No matter what kind of grade I will receive, I still feel satisfied with my hard working, and I really learned a lot in this class. Even I feel that writing is no longer my barrier that obstacles me as before. In the future, if I meet tough barrier in my lifetime, I will not dare to experience that, because I know escaping from difficulty will never let me learn and be perfect.

Be Confident When Using the English (LIiu Yang Xue)
After reading the “Black Talk and Pop Culture”, I got a further understanding of the differences between the spoken English and the writing English. America has a diverse culture so that there are a lot of different expressions in the spoken language.
That’s so called “slang” in the spoken English. In our daily life, we tried hard to communicate with the native speakers in order to let ourselves speak English as well as them. Therefore, we will also learn a lot of slang as a popular way to speak with people. However, when people are writing their essays, it is not allowed to use these expressions appeared in our spoken English.
I think it is a good for the international students because it is easier for the foreigners to get rid of the informal words than it is for the native speakers. Our writing will be more formal than the American students. What’s more, the international students concentrate more on the grammar than the American students. So we should feel confident when we are writing the essays. Don’t afraid of writing because we are international students.

Pursuit of Real Possession
We should try to step back from our compulsive need for more of everything and get in touch with the basic values that are the real point of our lives—pursuit of possessions
Personally speaking, it’s not wrong that people prefer to pursue the material possession, for me, material possession is a reward after I pay hard efforts and achieve my goals in stead of my final pursuit. I feel strange with people who persuade material possessions for the whole life. In my opinion of view, the real possession that we should persuade is not material possessions but higher self-evalution. When we are young, our parents told us to be decent person and responsible for families through hard working. And I also think the real possession is given from ourselves instead of others. Once your possession is from other, you will not want to consider it as a treasure, because you will think that it’s too easy to gain. And I think the real possession is from your personal spirit.

Although we don’t want to believe the existence of discrimination from the beginning of human being, it’s true that women has some disadvantage both in physic and psychology. Furthermore, women are always the victims those are related to rape. We always heard about rape incidents from our close friends instead of from news, due to the fact that most of women are not willing to tell the truth to public that she has experienced, they think that it’s a thing that will let them be laughed and discriminated by people, people may keep the colorful eyesight to judge them, and their family will also be influenced by people. It’s lucky that I didn’t experience that kind of experience, it’s probably that I can’t understand how they feel about. And I may have no right to say that they should stand out and speak out to protect them. But I still want to say the solution to decline and defense is from the victims. When a real rape occurs, she should repost it to the police. Even you don’t have the courage to repost the police, you should tell your best friend, no matter what kind of solution, what we expect is to reduce their pain and help them. communication to people and express unhappiness is effective and easy.

When We Are Older

If you ask someone that whether he wants to grow older, probably he will say no, because some people may be afraid that they will lose youth and life-expectation, older people is a group that is considered as “the setting sun”. to honest, i am also afraid to grow older, because I don’t want to be a person who always sits on the chair and expect to be cared by children. It seems like there is no value for me to live in the world. Even though people don’t want to live in that kind of situation, but human being still have no power to fight with nature growth. What we can do is to catch every moment in life , and when we are older, even we can’t do any great achievement, but we can have the good memory to see back and smile. Because when you are older, you don’t have to compete with your peers, and you will not have the thought that you want to be beyond others, what you want is just a kind heart. When we mentioned about famous and influenced person in the history, one of the most important special skill that related to him must be higher speech skill. American’s new president, Obama, he is just a famous leader who has a great speech skill that always let people admire him. Thus we can see that language is powerful. Besides the public speech, in our daily life, language is also powerful. When we feel depressed, your friend’s confidential speak can give you power and let you walk out from depression. When we succeed in doing something, your lovers’ congratulation will let you feel that you are really deserved the success. Language is a tool that we express what’s on our mind. Communication and interaction can dramatically close our relationship with friends and family. We may have same experience, daughter doesn’t always talk to your father ,which lead to the bad relationship with father, but if you want to change the situation, say “ I love you” is the best way to achieve that. Unfortunately that not all the language is powerful, in my point of view, powerful language must come from your true heart and sincere, then the listener will understand you and be impressed from the heart.

Writing For Me
In general, we always say that reading can enrich a person’s knowledge and fulfill a person’s life experience, which we learned it when we are young. But when I was young, I kept doubt about that, because the first impression mind related to writing is how to express my own opinion and thoughts instead of taking a reference from others. I still remember that the first writing in my lifetime is my diary when I was nearly 8 year old. Although I even couldn’t finish a whole sentence to express myself, I still try my best to writing down something that I can. As time goes by, I learn more knowledge and what I can express through writing is becoming more and more profound. Gradually, writing has become one part of my life. I was not a person who is really good at public speaking, sometimes I feel shine and stressed when I stand in front of audience and expressing myself became a hard thing. At this time, writing is my only tool to express what I want to say. When the time I am writing, I feel free and relax no matter who sits or stands beside me. Moreover, sometimes free writing is a way to express unsatisfaction from real world.
Famous French writer Sartre says: “writing is a tool to conflict with life.” It’s inevitable that many things happed to us is against our willing, unfortunately sometimes we can’t change it as we want and even we can’t express it loudly, at this time, we will feel depressed and angry. Then what we need is finding a typical to express happiness in case of having psychological barrier. Some people may say communicating to friends is a good choice, but not all the people want to tell the secrets to friends, then writing is such a friend who can patiently listen to you.
Besides the function of express myself, sometimes writing became one of things we have to do in order to improve our study. Compared to the writing above, academic writing demand a high standard of writing skills, which we have to make practice all the time so that we can improve it. Then reading back to my article about the importance of reading, at this time, writing can be a mirror that reflects your literacy criteria, then the best way to enhance it is through reading, which is from my own experience. When I was in junior high school, I take my teacher’s suggestion to read articles so that I can improve accomplishments better. I bought different books randomly, but when I want to be concentrated on reading them, I feel bored and lack of interests. Finally although I am reluctant to finish reading parts of them, my wiring skills didn’t be proved anymore. Even sometimes I will want to take other’s writing content instead of learn writing skills, which let me depressed. Fortunately, one day, when I was in library, I was caught by a blue covered book “if giving me three more bright days”. I borrowed it home and finish reading it quickly. The content in this book is about Helen Keller, a famous woman who is blind, deaf and dumb. I really respect her achievement, although it seems like life is unfair to Helen, what she wants to achieve is all hard, what she should do is make more efforts than ordinary people. but finally she finished her dream and even better than us. After that, I’m surprised and glad to see that my writing skill was improved greatly. Although I just have read one book, I apply many content and experience of Helen as examples into my own writing. Then I found that the only book that I interested in reading is biography, after I found my own interest from that time. I read many other biography, personally speaking, reading biography can influence my thoughts to life, because if a person who has his own biography, no matter it was wrote from himself and others, he must have some special quality and trait that we can learn from. For example, after I read biography of President Lincoln, I was impressed by his experience, he had a poor childhood because of his family, but finally he succeeded, the reason is he has a strong and decent heart. He insisted on issue about salves, and he is famous of speech because of his wide reading.
On the other hand, reading biography has really helped me a lot. Due to the fact that you can know a lot of things and stories just from one book, and you can use it in different topic. Once you accurately use them, you will find your writing will become more lively and reasonable.

Even sometimes I will want to take other’s writing content instead of learn writing skills, which let me depressed. Fortunately, one day, when I was in library, I was caught by a blue covered book “if giving me three more bright days”. I borrowed it home and finish reading it quickly. The content in this book is about Helen Keller, a famous woman who is blind, deaf and dumb. I really respect her achievement, although it seems like life is unfair to Helen, what she wants to achieve is all hard, what she should do is make more efforts than ordinary people. but finally she finished her dream and even better than us. After that, I’m surprised and glad to see that my writing skill was improved greatly. Although I just have read one book, I apply many content and experience of Helen as examples into my own writing. Then I found that the only book that I interested in reading is biography, after I found my own interest from that time. I read many other biography, personally speaking, reading biography can influence my thoughts to life, because if a person who has his own biography, no matter it was wrote from himself and others, he must have some special quality and trait that we can learn from. For example, after I read biography of President Lincoln, I was impressed by his experience, he had a poor childhood because of his family, but finally he succeeded, the reason is he has a strong and decent heart. He insisted on issue about salves, and he is famous of speech because of his wide reading.
On the other hand, reading biography has really helped me a lot. Due to the fact that you can know a lot of things and stories just from one book, and you can use it in different topic. Once you accurately use them, you will find your writing will become more lively and reasonable.
I have learned a lot from Eng2f class. Personally speaking, when I was in high school, I was tying my best to improve my writing skills. My mother always says that your handwriting can reflect yourself, while I also believe that writing is mirror of a person. Due to the fact that I think, any kind of good writing is from you heart, if you want you writing become lively and wonderful, you have be concentrated on your own experience and life. We always sat that personal experience is crucial to a person’s growth, the reason is that experience can bring some thoughts and will influence people so that we can become perfect. I really love to writing something related with my personal experience. In this semester, the topic is just such a kind of topic that I prefer to write. In the past three writings, I applied many my personal experiences into my writing, which made me enjoy writing them. Moreover, I also get some feedback from my writing, one of most important that I learned is how to modify writing. When was in high school, I didn’t have the experience to hand in my writing after finishing drafts, but in eng2f, I experienced that and I got benefit from that. I realize that writing can be improved after my second thought. It’s surprised that my writing become better and frequency after my modifying. Sometimes I feel like my thoughts become more after I rethink it. I think this important experience will become important part of my life, it let me know that try to do everything carefully, and sometimes redoing also can bring out better consequence.

" Black Slang" can not describe black language, because clearly most black language is composed of standard English. However, when referring to actual slang that blacks created (my bad, dis), "black slang" is the right term.

To tell you the truth, i haven’t found that i really run like hell from talking about my feelings the same as what Richard said before i read this article. As a little boy, my mother told me that if i want to be a great man, i should be brave enough. From then on, i do my best to overcome any difficulties. When the things were tough, i only told myself to be brave and seldom turned to others.

I did not attend the ESL writing competition few weeks ago, but I saw the information about this competition from Internet. I was happy to hear that few people have won the first prizes, which included one of my best roommates named Lorraine.
She is really a bright person, who has abilities to create, to work, to learn, to esteem; and her own way to live. I knew she can speak different kinds of languages; and she always get high marks in business field. Lorraine also has her own dream, and has planned a clear way to strive for her purpose and future.
I admire her although she is younger than me; I learnt a lot from her last year. Therefore, I thought this writing competition was fair to every student. “Her name matches the reality”; however, other winners names also match the reality. You will realize what behind the honor is struggle.

Writing: One of the Most Important Skills in the University(Liu Yang Xue)
It is amazing that the time just flies so quickly and this fall semester is going to the end. I have written quite a number of papers since I came to the university. Now I am also going to finish the ENG 2F course soon. I really found that my writing has been improved a lot and at the same time I have realized that the skill of the writing can be one of the most important skills in the university.
Personally, I used to hate writing, especially when the professor asked for a 10-page paper. It would annoy me a lot because I didn’t know how to make the paper long enough to meet the professor’s requirement. However, this situation seems to have been released as time goes by. Though I am still far more than a good writer after writing so many papers and taking all the English writing courses, I do feel that I became more familiar with writing. At least, I won’t be scared when a long paper is required. I know how to use good strategy to write a paper with a clearer idea and a better structure.
After taking this writing course, I believe there are several elements to write a satisfying essay.
First of all, a good outline is the key to write a good essay. No matter how long the essay will be, the structure of the essay is the same. In order to keep the writer’s thinking logically, listing an outline which gives a brief structure of the essay is useful and important. If we give out an outline before we write the essay, the essay will sure to be well organized.
Second, when we are writing, we had better avoid translating all the time. Mistakes usually happen when we use those translated sentences to write our essays. Though it is hard to get rid of this, we should try to avoid translating our own language to English. Maybe another good way is to read the essay again and again when we finish writing which can help us revise the strange expression appeared in our essays.
Thirdly, to write a professional essay, reading is extremely important. We will always get confused that how we can make our essay more like the one written by the native speakers. I think the only solution is that we should read more works written by others. Nowadays, people, including me, don’t like reading. However, we have to read as much as possible to improve our own writing skill. When we read the works written by the academic writers, we will be attracted by the beautiful expressions which are exactly the ones we want to express in our own essay. We will be surprised that how smart these writers are. Though what we want to express is the same, the academic writers can write it in a more brief and accurate language. If we keep on reading these works, we will have a tendency to imitate the way that the writer writes his work. As time goes by, we can form our own writing style. If we desire for a satisfying essay, read more. In this course, Professor Bai noticed the importance of reading and provided us some good materials to read. However it is far more than enough.
Though I didn’t write a lot of essays in this writing course, I do get improved from these practices.
In the first essay, I got a score which frustrated me a lot. Now when I look back the first essay now, I believe that I can do a better job if I rewrite it since I have got some mechanisms during this semester. In addition, I also knew that we can use the visual images in our essays to make our writings more interesting. I think the Class Wiki is a really good tool for this class. We can write Blogs on the website and add the videos and color pictures in our Blogs. Then, no matter the professor, but also our classmates will have chance to read others’ writings. We can share the ideas with each other. This class also gave me a lot of “first”. For example, it was my first time to write a Blog in my whole life even though it was required as homework. And I am thinking about to start my own Blog if I have enough perseverance.
In the second essay, I tried harder on it and made a good outline. Finally, I got a better score than the first one. However it made me realize another problem: plagiarism. A large part of my essay was taken from the Internet or other materials, while I never cited them. Later I know it is called plagiarism which is treated very seriously in academic reading. Though I didn’t do it by purpose, the second essay reminded me to pay attention to the problem which I had ignored before. It is necessary to form the habit of citing others’ works in order to make our own work academic.
Perhaps, the biggest progress I have ever made in this course is the research paper. It is also my first time to write research paper. In some run, I feel I really have grown up if I can write a research paper. It sounds ridiculous, but it is really what I think. When I was really young, I heard that those older brothers and sisters who were in the university were always troubled by the so called research paper. I was wondering what kind of essay it is. And now I began to write the research paper myself. Though the process was hard, the result really cheered me up. Though Professor Bai said this research paper was just our first attempt, I got a lot of experience in writing the research paper. I could remember the different feelings when I was doing this paper. At first I thought it was really easy and all I need to do was just find the resource online as I did usually and then write whatever I like. However when I really began to work on it, I found it was a really tough job. Even the outline of my paper would change all the time as I updated the resource I found. It was not just once that I had no idea about how to write this essay. Luckily, after talking with the professor and revising the outline several times, I finished the task. I was happy that I made it. What’s more, in that research paper I knew how to use the bibliography and “MLA” format correctly which can help me away from plagiarism.
In a word, there’s no doubt that the writing has become one of the most important skills in the university. For the university students these days, their grades not only depend on their exam scores, but also depend on how well they did in their papers. Therefore, it is seems more necessary for international students to improve their writing skill in order to do a better job in their class.

First of all, a good outline is the key to write a good essay. No matter how long the essay will be, the structure of the essay is the same. In order to keep the writer’s thinking logically, listing an outline which gives a brief structure of the essay is useful and important. If we give out an outline before we write the essay, the essay will sure to be well organized.
Second, when we are writing, we had better avoid translating all the time. Mistakes usually happen when we use those translated sentences to write our essays. Though it is hard to get rid of this, we should try to avoid translating our own language to English. Maybe another good way is to read the essay again and again when we finish writing which can help us revise the strange expression appeared in our essays.
Thirdly, to write a professional essay, reading is extremely important. We will always get confused that how we can make our essay more like the one written by the native speakers. I think the only solution is that we should read more works written by others. Nowadays, people, including me, don’t like reading. However, we have to read as much as possible to improve our own writing skill. When we read the works written by the academic writers, we will be attracted by the beautiful expressions which are exactly the ones we want to express in our own essay. We will be surprised that how smart these writers are. Though what we want to express is the same, the academic writers can write it in a more brief and accurate language. If we keep on reading these works, we will have a tendency to imitate the way that the writer writes his work. As time goes by, we can form our own writing style. If we desire for a satisfying essay, read more. In this course, Professor Bai noticed the importance of reading and provided us some good materials to read. However it is far more than enough.
Though I didn’t write a lot of essays in this writing course, I do get improved from these practices.
In the first essay, I got a score which frustrated me a lot. Now when I look back the first essay now, I believe that I can do a better job if I rewrite it since I have got some mechanisms during this semester. In addition, I also knew that we can use the visual images in our essays to make our writings more interesting. I think the Class Wiki is a really good tool for this class. We can write Blogs on the website and add the videos and color pictures in our Blogs. Then, no matter the professor, but also our classmates will have chance to read others’ writings. We can share the ideas with each other. This class also gave me a lot of “first”. For example, it was my first time to write a Blog in my whole life even though it was required as homework. And I am thinking about to start my own Blog if I have enough perseverance.
In the second essay, I tried harder on it and made a good outline. Finally, I got a better score than the first one. However it made me realize another problem: plagiarism. A large part of my essay was taken from the Internet or other materials, while I never cited them. Later I know it is called plagiarism which is treated very seriously in academic reading. Though I didn’t do it by purpose, the second essay reminded me to pay attention to the problem which I had ignored before. It is necessary to form the habit of citing others’ works in order to make our own work academic.
Perhaps, the biggest progress I have ever made in this course is the research paper. It is also my first time to write research paper. In some run, I feel I really have grown up if I can write a research paper. It sounds ridiculous, but it is really what I think. When I was really young, I heard that those older brothers and sisters who were in the university were always troubled by the so called research paper. I was wondering what kind of essay it is. And now I began to write the research paper myself. Though the process was hard, the result really cheered me up. Though Professor Bai said this research paper was just our first attempt, I got a lot of experience in writing the research paper. I could remember the different feelings when I was doing this paper. At first I thought it was really easy and all I need to do was just find the resource online as I did usually and then write whatever I like. However when I really began to work on it, I found it was a really tough job. Even the outline of my paper would change all the time as I updated the resource I found. It was not just once that I had no idea about how to write this essay. Luckily, after talking with the professor and revising the outline several times, I finished the task. I was happy that I made it. What’s more, in that research paper I knew how to use the bibliography and “MLA” format correctly which can help me away from plagiarism.
In a word, there’s no doubt that the writing has become one of the most important skills in the university. For the university students these days, their grades not only depend on their exam scores, but also depend on how well they did in their papers. Therefore, it is seems more necessary for international students to improve their writing skill in order to do a better job in their class.
I was taught a lot in the writing course and got a lot of experience in the essays I have written. The experience I have got will help me do better in the future study.

MY brother just took a test which all korean high school students have to take after they grauduate. I fell always bad for my brother becuase im here. just becasue im older than him, i take adventage of being here. I wish i can take him with me and study abroad here, but it costs twice for my parents to pay it.
Before i came here, when i was in high school, my brother and i were always together. we always fought and talked to each other. however, nowadays, we can barely meet each other online. he always proud of me and always cheer for me.
studying abroad is a great chance, so i prefer my brother to study abroad later if possible.

Equality of the sexes We had been in a man’s world for such a long period of time. Fortunately, now in many counties, people have lived in a harmonious life with the equality of the sexes.
However, to be equal, education is the most important method, because education teaches us how to think and behave properly, while our world outlook and life outlook is decided by the thinking of the world. The education today, appeals that women are as equal as men. From this, more and more women have realized that they can do the things as good as men, even better than them.
Besides, the atmosphere of study has inspired women with interest. Nowadays women can receive the high educations if they want. They can share the books in the library with men; do experiment to learn skills and so on. No one will feel strange when he found his classmates are a woman. It has really changed a lot.
We are so glad to see that change. Thus the society has developed more and more quickly yet because of the equality of the sexes.

powerful language:body language --Bin Ye
It is said that language is powerful, not only because what you say, but also the way you express what you say. However, of various kinds of language, body language is the most useful language for all people.
Body language contains facial language, eye contact, gesture and posture. We often use it when we can’t express something well in words or at some special time. For example,when the one sitting beside you are speaking loudly,and you don’t want to borther other people you could put your finger on your mouth to turn down her voice. Waving one's hand is to say "Good-bye." A smile and handshake show welcome, and clapping hands means congratulations. Sometimes we needn’t say too much, the body language can express. We can also use body language to communicate with many unable people who can’t speak. It's so amazing that using this kind of communication instrument we can talk with people wherever they come from.Language is powerful that a phrase or a single word can have as well as a smile,an eye contact or a gesture.

I do not like a word like give up.If people give up something before their behavior, i think that will be very stupid thing. Of course, people can feel afraid before their action to do something, especially, if that is hard thing, but even people have a 99 % of bad result, your effort can get 1 % of successful result. Abandonment will not brings you some good effects. You should not think bad result, like if you imagine about good thing, you will be happy, so just think about good result, that will make you more intelligent and courageous people.

Language is indeed one of the most powerful things we posses. It is how we communicate our idea, how we put our abstract feelings for others in words, and it is what we use to describe and evaluate our human experience.
